Hey everyone! Welcome aboard my 3rd TR! If you haven't already done so, I encourage you to visit my PTR for all the background info: Click Here

OK so lets get this show on the road!
(ETA: At the bottom of this post there are links to the updates so you don’t have to read all of the, um, “witty banter” as Buzz calls it, in between)

I got out of work at 7pm and rushed home to start our packing. I had to go up to the attic :scared: to get our luggage down and that in itself was an adventure. First of all....my house has those pull down attic stairs, which essentially means a metal ladder screwed onto a 2 x 4 that hangs down from the ceiling. The roof of the house (like most homes) come to a point so when in the attic, you can't stand up straight in certain spots. There is no electricity up there so we have a utility light strapped to a 20 foot extension cord that you have to plug into the outlet in the bathroom at the bottom of the ladder. And there is no "real" floor. There is a layer of insulation (circa 1952) and some more 2 x 4's standing on end. So it pretty much looks like this: l l l l l all the way across, with insulation in between the spaces of the slats. My dad put some plywood planks down over the slats to give us something flat to stand on, except he didn't nail them down or anything and each one is about 1/4" thick so if you stand on it in between slats, the whole board feels like it's going to crack underneath you. A few years ago, my mom actually managed to fall (partially) through the floor so her lower half was dangling from the ceiling of her bedroom. It's hilarious to imagine and she didn't get too hurt, but there was a gaping hole in her ceiling for several weeks until someone could come out to fix it.

So anyway, here I am in Satan's Attic digging around for luggage. I found Lumar's and tossed it down the door/opening where I came up from, and then went back for mine.

Rule #1: Never throw your luggage down a flight of metal stairs.
Exhibit A:
IMG_3049.jpg

Yes, there is a big chunk of plastic now missing off of my suitcase. :sad2:

Here's my suitcase, packed and ready to go!
IMG_3054.jpg

And yes, the Darkwing Duck shirt rocks your socks.

One of my goals for this trip was to not overpack. On almost every trip I have ever been on (Disney or not) I always end up bring a ton of stuff I never use, and a bunch of clothes I never wear. So I really tried to narrow it down to necessities on this one. Here's a pile of clothes that didn't make the cut:
IMG_3053.jpg

And yes, I have Hello Kitty sheets and Winnie-the-Pooh blanket. There's also a Garfield blanket in there somewhere. Hey, I told you we're nerds! Lumar doesn't particularly care for the HK sheets but he just has to deal with it.

Around 10pm I had to go pick up Lumar from work, and when we got back around 10:30, I frantically rushed around trying to finish packing. Some people like it when their significant other helps them with packing. I am not "some people." I can't concentrate when he's in the room, and he is not, under any circumstances, allowed to pack his own suitcase. If I left it up to him, he would go with an entire suitcase full of electronics equipment and no clothes. So anyway, here I am, running around like an idiot trying to remember where the heck I left my list and trying to make sure I didn't cross off anything that I didn't actually pack. This is how Scout helped me pack - with a look of utter disapproval that only rabbits can give (for more Disapproving Rabbits, visit www.disapprovingrabbits.com)

IMG_3052.jpg

"You're not going to try and pick me up again are you? God, just go on vacation already!"

And here is how Alex helped:
IMG_3051.jpg

Priorities, Alex, priorities!!

The Flash was absolutely no better, and I swear that I did not pose him this way. He digs under the blanket and comes out the otherside, covering himself up!

OK so all packing was officially done by 11:30pm and it felt sooo good to know that I didn't have to try and do all of this tomorrow night! :woohoo:

Dude, I live with my mom, no judgments here. For some reason I always thought you lived with your parents, and Lumar lived with his parents. :confused3 :confused3

Subbing! I'm a closet nerd. DBF gets a little freaked out when I start talking about my nerdy stuff.

:woohoo: you started.

When I had a house we had an attic like that. I hated going up there.

your packed. :woohoo: :sad2: you broke the luggage.

Cute rabbits. I used to watch rabbits for someone until she got dogs and got rid of the rabbits.

can't wait for more.

Thurday the 28th was highly uneventful. We both went to work, came home, packed up the bunnies, dropped off the bunnies, came back home for luggage and drove out to my dad’s house. He and my step-mom live about 45 minutes from Bradley Airport, where we were flying out of so I can leave my car at their house while we’re gone and not have to pay for parking at the airport. We got to their house about 11:30pm and went right to sleep.

Forgotten Item # 1: Contacts. I always wear a pair, and bring an extra pair in case something happens, then I also bring my glasses just in case. Well, I packed the spare pair in my suitcase, but wore my glasses to my dad’s and left the pair I was supposed to have in my eyeballs, in a case on my desk at my house. So now I have to go through a week of vacation with one pair of contacts…hopefully I’ll make it!

Friday 2/29
The alarm went off at 4:30am and we were on our way to the airport at 5am. I slept in the car most of the way but was awake in time to notice my step-mom miss the exit. We still made it there by 6:15, printed out our boarding passes and checked our luggage. YAY! No over weight bags!

Now the hard part…security. Seriously, the security guards could makes nuns feel like they did something wrong. I took off my Mickey Crocs and put them, along with all of my other stuff into a plastic bucket on the conveyor belt then stepped through the metal detector. No beeping, so off I go to collect my stuff. Lumar on the other hand, gets through the detector and takes 3 steps, THEN the alarm starts beeping so they made him go back through the detector then patted him down. We collected all of our stuff, walked about 30 feet and he stops and says “wait, where’s my boarding pass?” ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I told him to check his pockets, he said he did. I told him to check them again and POOF! His boarding pass magically appeared in his right pocket. Crisis averted!

We walked for miles to the VERY END of the terminal because, as always, our gate was the very last one. I was much too tired to even pretend like I was going to read a book or play my Pokemon Diamond game for my Nintendo DS (see? Nerd!) so I took a nap for about half an hour. At 7:15am, the sun rose just high enough that it was burning a hole through my eyelids. I sat up, and asked Lumar why we hadn’t started boarding yet and he said that they just announced that the plane had been delayed. As if on cue, the plane pulled up to the gate almost right at that moment. The passengers unloaded and by 7:30 they had started loading all of us on. We finally took off at 8am and I fell asleep again, almost missing the snack portion of the flight! No food = not gud. I get very cranky when I haven’t eaten.

We landed shortly after 10 and hightailed it to the lower lever B side. The line for DME was already long, and I stood there for 20 minutes to check us in. As I was walking towards the red carpet, I felt a sharp pain on the top of my right foot. When we sat down on the ME bus, I took off my Croc to find…a BLISTER! Seriously, I have to be the only person to succeed in getting a blister from Crocs.

This was the only picture I got of the WDW Entrance. Sorry, I wasn’t prepared:

The bus dropped off people at OKW and SSR first, then dropped us off at POFQ. It was only 12:30pm but our room was all ready for us so we headed up. We were in building 1 on the second floor, towards the back of the building.

Here’s our room number:
IMG_3056.jpg

I took some pics of the view from our room. It doesn’t look quite as pretty and colorful as it does in the warmer months when all the flowers and trees are in bloom, but it was still very nice and on the plus side, our allergies didn’t bother us one bit!

IMG_3058.jpg

Of course, I never took any pictures of the actual room….so here are some more pics of the resort:

We went and unloaded our stuff then went back down to the food court (Sassagoula) for some lunch. I had a cheeseburger with fries, Lumar got a grilled chicken sandwich and we ordered 3 beignets (you can order three or six). I wasn’t sure what they were but a bunch of people on the DIS told me to make sure I tried them so we did. Just fried dough with powdered sugar, but they make them fresh right in front of you. SOO good!! We went back to the room and fell asleep for about ½ an hour. Our luggage arrived at 2:30pm and we went back to sleep until 6. So much for going to play Mini Golf like we had intended to do. We got up and changed into real clothes (much different than traveling clothes) and headed to DTD. We arrived about 7:15pm and made sure we got off on the PI side this time. We walked through some of the stores on the West Side until about 10 of 8, then headed back to the Planet Hollywood check-in desk for our 8pm reservation. I should mention that I left my camera in the room so I have no pics of our adventure this evening. For dinner I ordered the Crab Cakes and a BananaRama and Lumar had the Chicken Fajitas. Both were so good! I have no idea why people complain about this place! We have NEVER had a bad experience here. popcorn::

After dinner we walked over to the Marketplace and spent $120 in World of Disney (on what, I have no idea but I saved almost all of our receipts – except for a couple here and there – so I’ll be able to tell you eventually). We went to the Pin Traders and Once Upon a Toy then headed back to POFQ, arriving back at our room about 11:30. I now had a blister on my left foot as well, same place as the other one just opposite foot, also from my Crocs. Did I mention that I only brought my Crocs and my Crocs Flip-Flops on this trip? Oh yeah, and in an effort to save space, I didn’t bring band-aids or Neosporin. Both of which I have brought on previous trips and never used. Now that I need them, of course, I don’t have them. I also seriously could have used some lotion for my hands and feet but I didn’t bring any of that either, assuming there would be some in the room. There wasn’t. Lumar also asked me for the nail clippers and I didn’t have those either. Remind me to NEVER pack lightly again. :sad2:

Next up: Day 1 at Epcot!

:woohoo:  your there.

I never tried one of those pastry thingies.

I love WOD, I could spend so much money in there. Oh wait I do here on 5th ave.

Great again.

:thumbsup2

I'm here...bummer about the blisters....I knew I didn't like crocs for a reason..;)

It seems like you got a ton of rest for it being your first day....:thumbsup2

O.k. note to self: Can't pack lightly! Take everything you think you might need.

I guess this means the Overpackers Anonymous club has broken up??

Do you wear socks with your crocs? I kind of alternated between both. I got a couple blisters but not too bad. AND NOT ON THE FIRST 10 MINUTES!! Wow. Poor thing.

Great update, glad you are finally able to get going on it. I love the POR pictures.

Subbing! I'm a closet nerd. DBF gets a little freaked out when I start talking about my nerdy stuff.

:welcome: Lumar and I are both HUGE nerds so it works out well for us :rotfl: he loves video games, card games, comics, and Disney. I love video games, animals (living and stuffed), Hello Kitty, and Disney. Oh and did I mention we have a HUGE Disney pin collection? I swear we spent more money on pins then we did on food. Not like it's hard to do, but still!

:woohoo: you started.
When I had a house we had an attic like that. I hated going up there.
your packed. :woohoo: :sad2: you broke the luggage.

Yes it's terrifying up there. I still haven't brought our luggage back up there and we've been home for a week. And yes, I'm stupid. I have no idea what possessed me to throw my suitcase down the stairs :confused3 I also found out later when I tried to stand it up (full of clothes) that I broke one of the little legs so the stupid thing wouldn't stand up on it's own :sad2:

Cute rabbits. I used to watch rabbits for someone until she got dogs and got rid of the rabbits.
can't wait for more.

Thanks! :) they're my babies! They actually terrorize my dogs...and my cats...and me... :rotfl2:

OMG I'm so jealous that you live by the one on 5th but at the same time I'm glad I don't go to Manhattan often because I'd spend WAY too much money there....probably on pins

I swear! No one else seems to have problems with them. Maybe I walk differently then everyone else?? And yes, we did get lots of sleep but that makes up for the rest of the week! :hyper:

I didn't bring socks with me on this trip because I never wore them with my Crocs before. I bought set of Mickey/Minnie socks while we were there but the blisters hurt too badly to put them back on so I ended up not wearing them again until the day we came home. I will only wear them with socks if I'm wearing jeans. I may be a nerd but I certainly don't have to dress like one! lol That reminds me of the those old men that wear knee high socks with the Jesus Sandals (or Christ Cruisers, if you will). They look so funny but they're old so at least they have an excuse.

I'm here! Thanks for sharing!
:welcome: thanks for joining me!

Ugh-bummer about the contacts.

we are visiting POFQ in Nov. Can't wait to hear more!

Hey thanks for joining me! The resort was beautiful, everyone was really nice (especially the people in the gift shop...you'll hear more about them later!) but we will definitely go back. The only thing that we didn't like was that on the way home from the parks (except for MK) you share a bus with Riverside and the busses would get PACKED. On the way to the parks, you have your own bus though.

Great start to your TR:thumbsup2 Hope your contacts made it through the whole vacation.

Can't wait to read more.
