I have been looking at two, I think, different companies that offer work from home possibilities.

Does anyone have any pros or cons between these two companies?

At first I thought it was the same job but apparently not.

Help!

Yikes 60 people or so have looked at this thread and no one has an answer for me?:confused3 :rotfl:

I have tried google and West At Home is a legit company but it is harder to find anyone real who can give me information on Westat.

West At Home seems to be doing a lot of upsales of products and Westat says it is a survey type company.

I would really like to find someone that I know :-)lmao: Like because they are disboards, I know and trust them!!) who can tell me their personal experiences with this Westat company.

Westat is different from West. Here goes:

Westat - mostly outbound survey type calling although I understand there is some inbound as well. The ARE currently hiring and do pay you for your training time. Very friendly people there too.

West - mostly inbound customer service calls. The are not actively hiring. I currently work for them, nice company so no harm in applying and waiting to see if they email you back when they have space.

If you want the real inside skinny on working from home taking or making calls, check out workplacelikehome.com

Lots of good info over there.

another board is wahm.com

I've never done either. I've heard you aren't allowed to have children or pets in the room with you and you can't have VOIP phone either. I think the pay pretty much sucks.

True, you need a quiet place to work or you will be fired.

I guess to most the pay would seem that it sucks. It is very close to minimum wage in some states, but for some of us it works because we are home for our families, etc. I am just about to leave a very high paying job to work from home full time because when I deduct when I pay for child care, commuting, work clothing and dry cleaning, parking, etc., I make nearly minimum wage anyway.

There are other work at home jobs which don't require as much phone work, but most do.

I used to work for West, but was let go because I didn't work for 30 days after I had my son....I had a great line that I worked and I am really sorry I didn't find an hour or 2 a week to keep it up. I reapplied as a rehire about a month ago and haven't heard anything.....it could be months before I hear anything....Yes, the pay in minimum wage....but it paid for my groceries and the work was pretty easy for me. If you apply do not expect to hear anything anytime soon.

I have not worked for Westat as I do not like outbound calls. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Thanks so very much for the replies. I was beginning to think that Westat was just a scam and a play on the company name of West At Home.

Can you explain out bound calls? Does this mean I come up with the numbers or I just dial the numbers given to me?

DH is frequently sleeping during some of the day as he works various shifts. was concerned that constant phone rings were going to bother him. Out bound would eliminate this correct?

My work area is quiet so that should be a plus.

I too figure that by the time I pay travel expenses and clothing expenses that I will be better off working for less at home.

Westat is very much legit and the people that work there seem to really love it. I began the training, but decided outbound is just not for me.

You will be provided with the numbers to call through an auto dialer I believe. You will need a corded telephone that has a head set. If anything, your phone would ring just once as you started your shift as you log in to the autodialer.

With Westat, I believe it is mostly surveys. The people you will be calling apparently know the call is coming and were alerted via mail or something. YOu really should check the Westat section of workplacelikehome.com for more info. Some of the posters there have been working for them for years!

Good luck with your WAH job search!

A similar company you could also try is LiveOps.com. It is absolutely legit.

My sister works for West at Home. I tried to apply but they weren't accepting my area code. Totally legit. She's done inbound for items sold on TV, and for a flower company (not proflowers but maybe 1800flowers?, not sure)

My DH works for both. W*st*t is a much better company in our opinion. They also pay much better. They pay an hourly rate as opposed to per minute talk time. It has worked great for us. He left his full time commuter job. He makes about 1/2 what he did before, but with no gas or child care we are better off now. He likes W*st*t better even though it is outbound because he doesn't like upsell, etc. He also has a service line with W*st, so not as many upsales.
