SOOZE 10 year Anniversary Getaway.. All DONE!

Hey Sooze, I'm finally caught up on your TR, I'm a little behind on TR reading lately. We stayed at POR and loved it, I would definitely go back there. We also stayed in the mansions but I can't remember the name of ours. Sorry to hear it was chilly for your visit, but I must it admit it's better than sweating every day!

Can't wait to hear about Downtown Disney.....I love shopping......:cool1:

Hi Sooze! We LOVE POR...we have stayed there our last two trips (Once in building 15 AB side and this past trip at The Acadian House on the Mansion side)...it so relaxing and beautiful...I never seem to mind the walk to the food court, pool, bus stop, etc. because of the beauty.

I know what you mean about finding the place...our first trip my husband made 2 u-turns...the second of which was in the Median :scared1: (he was driving a 4-wheel drive truck)!!!!! I was convinced that we would promptly be escorted off of Disney property by "Mouse-curity" :lmao: ...however, we did not get caught thank Heavens! Needless to say, we found POR and had a wonderful vacation. There IS a very distinctive smell at POR...I am not sure what makes it smell so good, but it is my favorite! :cloud9:

I too have always wondered what those paddle things on the ceiling are for...my thoughts were old plantation type fans as well, but I think they move too slowly also...I have always been too "chicken" to ask a CM because I do not want to look "dense" :rotfl2:..I am supposed to be a Disney "expert" ya know!

YEAH!!!! You are there, the resort looks beautiful. I completely understand what you are saying about the beds by the way!!! :lmao: I CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE. Tim and I are so excited when an installment comes up, I read them out loud like it's story hour and we look at the pictures together. It is outstanding! Keep them coming!
Lesley

I'm so happy I can help entertain you two! I'm also happy that someone else can appreciate the bed situation. Speaking of Tim, I'm still waiting to see Sir Hotness without his facial hair!! Can you hook us up?:confused3

Can't wait to hear more!

Hoping to post another update soon!

Hi Sooze! I saw you talking about your TR over on Scott's thread and came over to check it out just in time for the start!

:welcome: I'm so glad you came over to visit! Hope the report is good enough to keep you around:rotfl:

Wow that rental car line was long! :scared1: Glad that everybody was in a good mood though, nothing worse than standing in a long line with a bunch of grumpy people.

Yes.. and it didn't really hit me until we got home that the people in the massive lines were actually very pleasant. There was a mom (by herself!) with a newborn and an older elementary child. She had 3 suitcases and a stroller. She just kept plugging along. Feeding the baby, shoving suitcases, talking to the other kid... never seemed frustrated or upset. It was a nice "Disney moment" for me, looking back on it!

:woohoo: on the no lines at check-in.

Perhaps the things on the ceiling are old fashioned fans to fit with the mansion theme? :confused3

I can only think of fans, too... Hopefully, someone will let us know for sure!

Hi

I just found your report today. A perfect way to deal with the 12-16 inches of snow outside!

I'm in Chicago and spent 90 minutes driving to work to find the building cloccsed and an hour drive home!

I wish I was:cool1: in Orlando right now!
:welcome: I saw the pictures of Gurnee Mills Mall on Good Morning America this morning. :scared1: That is A LOT of snow!! I'm so sorry you were out in it for no reason. Hopefully you can chill out (sorry, bad pun) today and stay inside. Part of me wishes we could get some massive snow storm in Indy. It just seems like it's been FOREVER since we've had a good snow storm. I want to take my son sledding before he's too old to enjoy it!

Anyway.. welcome.. and I hope you enjoy my report!

:woohoo: your there.

I have never noticed those things on the ceilings before. :confused3

Parterre Place is where we stayed in July and thought it was gorgeous.

The wheel was not turning for about 6 days while we were there.

Next time you're at POR, check 'em out.. maybe YOU can figure out what they're for!! Wonder why the wheel wasn't moving? We saw it moving the last day we were there.. maybe because it finally warmed up!?:confused3

We were very impressed with POR. I will definitely recommend it to anyone asking! Our other favorite moderate was CBR, but we both agreed we like POR better... missed the beach and hammocks.. but loved the 'secluded' feeling of POR. The chill was actually okay! We were comfortable in our sweats and jeans. We kept talking about how HOT and UNCOMFORTABLE it is when we come over Labor Day.. so we enjoyed the chill. It was better than the ZERO degrees we left behind in Indy that morning, for sure!!

After walking to the main building and bus stops a few more times, you are right, it wasn't that far at all, and the walks were always beautiful! Especially early in the morning when everything was still and quiet!

How funny about your U-turns!!

And next time, I WILL ask a CM about the paddles. I guess I never even thought to do that:confused3 I'm never afraid to look dense.. so I could do it!!

For crying out loud, they have beautiful purple Mickey-ized road signs everywhere.. SURELY we can find a big resort like POR, right?:confused3
Hey Sooze? I've been going to WDW regularly for 15 years and I still have a hard time getting to POR without a U-turn! Disney's expertise extends to many areas... road signage is NOT one of them. :rotfl:
As DH was checking in, I noticed these honkin' HUGE paddle-like structures on the ceiling.. then I noticed they were moving.. ever-so-slowly. Anyone know what they are for?
Did anyone already answer? (Sorry - i forgot to look!) They are for circulation... sort of. I don't think they actually do much of anything for real, but they're modeled after traditional Southern plantation fans. Seems like a nice nostalgic touch till you realize there was no electricity at the time they were used - they were powered by slaves pulling ropes.
Okay, we were so excited to see two queen beds. I KNOW, I KNOW.. we are on our ANNIVERSARY GETAWAY!! But to be able to stretch out in your own bed... you can't beat that! Come on.. support me on this one!
::yes:: Been there, felt the same! :rotfl:

Oh...thank you so much for your intelligence:worship: ...we were correct when guessing fans! Now I do not have too look "dense" asking nor do I have to wait for Sooze to go back and ask the "big question". :lmao:

Okay, we were so excited to see two queen beds. I KNOW, I KNOW.. we are on our ANNIVERSARY GETAWAY!! But to be able to stretch out in your own bed... you can't beat that! Come on.. support me on this one! If we were newlyweds, we might've been disappointed.. but ten years later.. we can appreciate a good night's sleep, no?

Too true!:lmao: I will certainly support you on that one.:thumbsup2 After (gasp) 13 even more so:rotfl2:

i see that i am pretty far down the list, so this is just to aknowledge my efforts, and get me a little higher up there.

great update, that is what i hate about not being on the dinning plan, you feel so guilty getting anything that is expensive.

nice pictures, we had the two beds in our room, and i could not kick DW out to the other one.
she misses me to much.

loved the pictures, cant wait for more.

Can't wait to go back to POR it is beautiful isn't it :goodvibes

I would of said the paddles were for circulation too, thanks V!

The wheel wasn't moving for several days when we were there in August 2005 and it was warm enough then :rotfl2:

So glad to know we aren't the only ones slightly confused with Disney Directions!

How awful about slaves pulling ropes!!! Do you think there might be some former Universal employees somewhere with rope burns? Maybe Walt put 'em to work at POR!:lmao:

Oh...thank you so much for your intelligence:worship: ...we were correct when guessing fans! Now I do not have too look "dense" asking nor do I have to wait for Sooze to go back and ask the "big question". :lmao:

Yes! That was a nice history lesson too, eh?!

Yes, I just hooked ya up!!! Enjoy!

Oh yeeaaahhhh, baby! Thanks for the eye candy!:rotfl2:

I stopped at POFQ a few times on my way down the Sassagoula River to DTD, but never got to explore.. so I can't give you any advanced notice on the smell! You'll have to let me know!

Too true!:lmao: I will certainly support you on that one.:thumbsup2 After (gasp) 13 even more so:rotfl2:

13 years?! We're right behind you!

I'm sure it will be, you are off to a great start!

No pressure... no pressure...

Newlyweds.... pssshhhh....;)

We did the dining plan last year and I thought there was entirely too much food... but after NOT doing it this year.. I see the benefit of it. I hated choosing the cheapest thing on the menu all the time. For our next adult's only trip, I will definitely save up enough money to buy the DP again!!

all right just moved up the list in a big way.

sorry celebratoin time is over.

okay now it is

Hope you feel better now. Feel free to post random thoughts to get your post count up!

Okay, I am all caught up now and can't wait to hear the rest!!!

Look for an update this weekend!:cheer2:
