Tip for extra fun on Pirate's Lair!

While I getting the maps together to send out to people from my other thread, my son snagged the super-cool map to Pirate's Lair I got on my trip.

And that reminded me of something I rarely see mentioned, so I'll mention it again.

On the raft over, ask the driver if they have any maps of the island. They keep them in their steering wheel box area, and when I asked, he had quite a stack in there. They are really cute (if not really to scale, LOL), and if you hold it to the sunlight, you can see paths marked super-secretly, with big Xs in some spots.

Hope that adds to the fun for those who didn't know about it!

Ohhh cool! Is it on nice paper like the Jungle Cruise maps? My ds would love to add it to his wall in his room (he has a collection of DLR maps).

They are on nice thick paper. When we get back from the store I'll take a picture of it for reference.

I had heard about the JC maps before my last trip and was happy when they gave us them after our JC ride. It's a pretty cool map. I will definitely look out for PL maps on my next trip!

I was going to PM you ....what's with the treasure (surprise) you talked about in your TR? I saw the pictures.....saw the ummm (surprise) I think...but what is it actually? You see the little window, you reach for the stuff in the window, and things suddenly appear. Suddenly. The more in-focus picture-link in my TR is the one that made me nearly scream I was so startled. The one that's out of focus where you're thinking "what is that", that wasn't as big a deal, perhaps b/c it was the second one I saw. If I had my kiddo with me, if I thought he was OK with it, I might have him hang back while I reached, so he wasn't *right there*. But he's in a skittish phase right now; if he were braver right now, or once he's older, I wouldn't be so cautious with the guy.



I can't believe I never heard of the JC maps before. That is sooooo going on my list of things to get on the next trip.

How do you get the JC map? Do you ask as you exit the boat or the JC Captain?

You ask at the skipper's stand as you are exiting the boat.

I used to dread having to go over to Tom Sawyer's Island when we were kids. I have a younger brother and he loved it over there. My older sister and I would BEG my mom to not make us do it. It was such a waste of time. We were so glad when we got older and she let us go off on our own and we didn't have to waste an hour or more over there, lol.

WOAH! Those are fantastic tips! I gotta look into both those maps. But im particularily amused by the pirate map and if you hold it up in the light you can see marked paths. That just shows you how far Disney takes its magic... Its so endless I love it.

I didn't even notice the paths until someone mentioned it on a website. Brought it out (we got one automatically, somehow, in September, then I asked during my solo trip so I could have another) at home and there were the marks!

Thank you so much for the tip Bumbershoot! I was there in October and was disappointed that we weren't given a map. I thought maybe it was only something they did when the island first opened. I'll be sure to ask for one next time! And Jungle Cruise maps too?!!! Just when I thought I knew it all! I love learning new things about Disneyland!
