It's time again - YEAH :woohoo: ! Another trip is being planned and we get to go this year! Last time I started with a trip report, so this time I’m actually going to start with a pre-trippie. Who knows what twists and turns will happen between now and the time we are supposed to leave for the World.

And you’ll need a little background. I’m one of those obsessive compulsive planners who plans each trip 18 months out (we only go every few years – WAHHHHHH) On our last trip I ended up with a HUGE three inch binder full of information, that of course, we not touched the whole time we were in the world. I also HATE to fly so will spend most of my time trying to talk DH into driving which is what we did last time.

August 2007
Can’t remember the exact date – I know shock of all shockers, but DH had promised to go out to Woodfield when the DVC Store – Doorway to Dreams – opened. I think it was a promise made so he would not have to hear me constantly talking about going and seeing and he was hoping I’d get a little “fix” off talking Disney to someone beside him (and the boards and tiggerbell for lunches) constantly.

So off we go in the middle of August to the preview center. DH actually parked right by the entrance closest to it at Woodfield, so that was shocking, I hadn’t even told him where to park. So we walk in and are greeted after a minute by a person asking if we like Disney and know anything about DVC. At this point DH is just snickering cause he knows I know a LOT about it and we are not your average off the street person walking in cause it looked cool. So we start talking with the CM and it turns out I do know more that she does. She suggests if they expand there I should apply for a job, too bad the pay is probably not a whole lot.

She then asks if we have time would we like to meet a guide and speak with them. We say sure. So out comes Derrick - our guide – We’ll call him DVG (Vacation Guide). He talks to us for just a minute and realizes he’s dealing with people who actually know about Disney and DVC. So we take the tour through the Animal Kingdom mockups and I’m trying to get a read on DH – I think he’s really liking it but I’m not sure. We then sit down to talk about the most important stuff – will it work for us. And would we buy at SSR or AKV? There was no question that what lured DH in was AKV and that was the only one he would consider buying since he loved it so much on our last trip.

At one point DVG and I are talking in acronyms and DH looks really confused. DVG is also a member of the Disboards so we touch on that as well. So after unconfusing DH a number of times with our code speak, we take the information and leave. By the time we get home, DH is ready to sign on the line and (ready for the shocker) I’m having second thoughts - WHAT?!:scared1: I know, I know. I’m the one who has said we should do this from our first trip in 95 and now DH is ready and I’m throwing the brakes. Perhaps Mars and Jupiter were unaligned or something. :confused3

So about midweek I decide this is a really good idea and let’s sign up….uh-oh – I waited a little too long to come to my senses and evidently made too many good arguments cause now DH is thinking it doesn’t make sense. :crazy2: Great – now I have to come up with new and better arguments to refute everything I had said in the beginning of the week to make him come back to the good side. :headache: DFIL is a retired numbers guy, so he also has great financial advice. We decided to ask him his advice – this worried me as I wasn’t sure which way he would go. Thankfully, he thought it was a good idea for us and told DH that :worship:….as a side note he may have had ulterior motives which you’ll see soon.

The weekend comes and our seven days (to receive incentives) are up to make up our mind. We made an appointment for Saturday (which was our sixth day) and since we were still undecided called and moved it to Sunday. Sunday comes and it's rainy, and icky out but we head over to Woodfield anyway – the place is PACKED. Last weekend we had no trouble parking, I think we ended up parking in Wisconsin this time. I’m still not sure what DH is going to do as we walk in…..

Great pre-trip report so far! :thumbsup2 I'll be tuning back in. I'm glad I found another obsessive trip planner (like me)! :)

I'm in! I found you over on Tiggerbell's thread and came over. Could I please have a clarification. What is Woodfield? Obviously it's a DVC office, but is this a landmark of some kind? A mall? Guessing in/near Chicago? Never heard of it. :confused3

:welcome: First of all - Welcome Everyone :welcome:
Okay you've got me hooked...what happened next?
Hi :wave2: Thank you for joining in the fun. The next part will be up hopefully by Friday...just waiting to see if DH wants to respond.

Okay you've got me hooked...what happened next? And also WHAT were you thinking of:confused: with the hesitation thing?
And I think I had momentarily lost my mind. I think all of the sudden I was being responsible (which seems to hit at the wrong times...right Jaime? :goodvibes ) Either that or DH so readily agreeing just completely threw me off :rotfl2:

Oh and 2009 is a good year to turn 40....we are also planning a trip in 09 for my 40th! :)

:3dglasses I'm in!!!

Wait... maybe I should read it first... :lmao:
 Ha - it will hopefully be up to tiggerbell standards...oh wait - you now have an upcoming role ;)

Great pre-trip report so far! :thumbsup2 I'll be tuning back in. I'm glad I found another obsessive trip planner (like me)! :)

:wave2: tiggerfan1 - Thank you! And we obsessive trip planners need to stick together. I know DH makes fun of me, but in the end, he always agrees that all the planning makes it well worth it...well maybe not when I'm trying to get him up at 6am on vacation to get to rope drop :rotfl:

I'm in! I found you over on Tiggerbell's thread and came over. Could I please have a clarification. What is Woodfield? Obviously it's a DVC office, but is this a landmark of some kind? A mall? Guessing in/near Chicago? Never heard of it. :confused3

Hello Maddie2 . Thanks for joining the fun. Woodfield is a HUGE mall in Schaumburg, IL, about 30 minutes from where I live. They basically opened a satellite DVC office with models and everything. It's a fun mall to shop because it is so big.

When we left our story off, of would they or wouldn't they buy into DVC - here's what happened next:

So here we are walking in and I have no idea if we are going to say no thank you or YEAH!!!:woohoo: We get in meet with DVG and I'm basically holding my breath...I'm going to let DH talk and see which way he goes.....YEAH!!! :woohoo: :cheer2: :woohoo: We are now DVC members. DH agreed to it as long as we didn’t always use our points at WDW and could go other places – that’s what sealed it for him. People will argue that’s not the best use for them but hey – I still have them and if I wanted to we could go somewhere else without having to pay for a room.

So after signing our life away, we now own at AKV – DH loved the resort and is happy that is his home resort. We will of course want to try all the others, but we both loved AKL so much, I think this worked out for the best. Even better, we can still stay in the main lodge even once the DVC building it built.

So after leaving Woodfield we head over to DIL’s to tell them. They were very happy as the also love Disney and usually visit for a couple of short trips each year. We also then invite them to join us on our next vacation in 2008 (a WHOLE year earlier than I thought we’d be going back.) Probably in October.

You are SO lucky...I've never been to it but AKL looks seriously cool:cool1: . CONGRATULATIONS

Thanks so much. I actually HATED it when we transferred there from the WL, and was really whiny for about 48 hours (just ask DH!) But then something just switched and it was awesome. I know a lot of people say it's out of the way, but I never really felt that. Granted we always have a car, but making the constant loop to get out of the WL and go anywhere felt just as long.

I think a better title might be:
Mickey's Hand is in My Back Pocket - with help from the DW!

Oh!...Where to start?
I really don't have a lot to say here, but I sure have a LOT to respond to!!!
;-D ;-D ;-D
--------------

DW - :p<..."Who knows what twists and turns will happen between now and the time we are supposed to leave for the World."
I have plenty of time to throw many a wrench into DW's plans! :scratchin

:p<..."I’m one of those obsessive compulsive planners who plans each trip 18 months out ...On our last trip I ended up with a HUGE three inch binder full of information"
Even in this computer age, she still manages to gather and save a TON of paperwork.

[1995] It all started in '95 on our first trip. My Father had an envelope with a sheet or two of paper, on which he wrote a few key attractions we just had to hit during our 3 day stay. It was a plan for success, probably before Disney planning really starting catching fire online. Well, it worked, cuz...

[2000] The next time we went, DW created a bunch of documents for things she wanted to see, and maximized her efforts on a per day basis.
Printed them out, and stuffed a folder. Once again, a success.

[2004] Now she's crazier than ever...come 2004, a trip with both sets of parents, a must win (over) trip...
1¼" Binder, jammed with stuff, and a master sheet with daily breakdowns.

[2006] Finally, our 2006 trip - designed to be the ultimate trip (for her) . . . 3+ inches of craziness, with numerous Tabs for sections, etc.

Here are our trip binders in reverse chronological order:

Anyhoo...on with the show...

:p<..."I also HATE to fly so will spend most of my time trying to talk DH into driving which is what we did last time."
Normally I'd be with her on this mode of transportation, but unlike her and her seemingly endless vacation time each year, time is actually an issue for me!
I would love to be able to take a few days getting down there, exploring and such, but with my constraints, flying m a x i m i z e s our precious Disney Time.

Hmm...DISNEY TIME. What is Disney Time? A timer of sorts, tracking time spent in say, the MK, Disney property, or the number of hours/days spent on a trip?
Or is it an abstract concept: a non-linear continuum of events and pacing which seem to defy all structure & scheduling?
Or is it another dimension, that which can only be experienced when letting your adult mindset go while experiencing any attraction in the MK, characterized by slowish motion, blissful fantasy, and heavenly euphoria cognized as an out-of-body experience upon recollection.
Yes. Disney Time.
Hey, why not?
Many have countdown timers, trip talleys, and such, but it's DISNEY TIME that counts.
Back to the show...

August 2007
:p<..."Can’t remember the exact date – I know shock of all shockers, but DH had promised to go out to Woodfield when the DVC Store"
Pffffft! She knows the exact second! She's probably got it written down, texted to her cell phone, and etched into her wedding band!...
Crazy.gif

:p<..."DH actually parked right by the entrance closest to it at Woodfield, so that was shocking, I hadn’t even told him where to park."
Pure chance (fate?). That's long been my favorite spot to park there;
it just so happened that Disney opened up it's store there...
:santa:

:p<..."So we start talking with the CM and it turns out I do know more that she does."
...and DW wasn't even trying. I think she didn't want to make them look bad. Now the DVC Guides are another story, but they only have more experience in the program. Given the same level of experience, TyRy would be Top Gun around there, no question. She seems to be close to some of the Guides in terms of knowing the game, and is privvy to many tidbits they may have skipped on the Disboards, but even the best DVC Guides we've talked to appear surprised by some the info she offers.
Granted, all ya'll probably know as much as her since this is where she gets it all!
:teacher:

:p<..."So out comes Derrick - our guide – We’ll call him DVG (Vacation Guide)."
Also known as Baseball HoF'er Ryne Sandberg.
Ladies and gentlemen, our DVC Guide/Salesman,

RYNO!

:p<..."He talks to us for just a minute and realizes he’s dealing with people who actually know about Disney and DVC."
Oh, this guy's eyes lit up and hair stood up on the back of his neck! He wasn't about to blow this opportunity!!!

:p<..."So we take the tour through the Animal Kingdom mockups and I’m trying to get a read on DH – I think he’s really liking it but I’m not sure."
LOL. Now come on.
Is there anything NOT to like? haha...
Relative to Disney (to me, at least),
everything is about rationalization,
not likes or dislikes.
Dislikes?? Doesn't compute -
they're all ... "preferences."
:rotfl:
Maybe there are Dislikes . . . ;-)

:p<..."By the time we get home, DH is ready to sign on the line and (ready for the shocker) I’m having second thoughts - WHAT?!"
Sure. DW having second thoughts. Never. Never in her "right" mind at least, LOL!!!
Now, I was having many similar mental debates about this, but they were never ones of apprehension;
they were more in the vein of:
KICKING SELF IN THE REAR OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN FOR NOT DOING THIS WHEN WE FIRST EYED THE OPPORTUNITY IN '97!!!!
<PULLS HAIR OUT>

:p<..."So about midweek I decide this is a really good idea and let’s sign up….uh-oh – I waited a little too long to come to my senses and evidently made too many good arguments cause now DH is thinking it doesn’t make sense."
<evil grin> HaHa! Gotta git while the gittin's good!

:p<..."DFIL is a retired numbers guy...We decided to ask him his advice...Thankfully, he thought it was a good idea for us and told DH that..."
Naa...he just instilled in me the idea of satisfying the DW for most of the rest of our lives with this decision (more than just a numbers guy) . . . :-D

:p<..."Sunday comes and it rainy, and icky out..."
LOL!!! She remembers it like a wedding day!!!

:p<..."I’m still not sure what DH is going to do as we walk in….."
a) slap butt when no one's looking and/or
b) Do what all men do at Malls ...

DH agreed to it as long as we didn’t always use our points at WDW and could go other places – that’s what sealed it for him. People will argue that’s not the best use for them but hey

Those people are right, though. It all looks good while you're sitting there, but really, for everywhere else I'd want to go, I wouldn't want to be at the Disney VC resorts there!

For instance, in New Orleans I like to be right there
(Bourbon St.)...in on the action!

Yes, I am happy with this. :thumbsup2
The only other one I would like would be
BOARDWALK :-)goodvibes I LOVE that place!!! :goodvibes ),
and I might just choose that if we buy into more points later.
I would not want the Contemporary DVC, unless it was in the main Tower itself!

So after leaving Woodfield we head over to DIL’s to tell them. They were very happy as the also love Disney and usually visit for a couple of short trips each year.
That, perhaps, is the best part about the purchase. I could never repay them (monetarily) what they've given me,
but this makes a great get-away for them to a place they love just as much.....
[need. more. points! :crazy2:]

__________________________________________________

Sept 2007:
Now that points have been bought the planning can begin. The one thing we knew for sure was who was going - we just weren't sure when yet. :confused3

I thought going to WDW in the middle of October next year as you get F&WF, MNSSHP and the temps might be a little cooler. Then I get told no. That’s the World Series. UMMMM – this is next year, not this one. The Cubs were still winning at this point so that’s what I thought he was talking about. So we go back and forth on this and then Cubs get knocked right out. Now it’s definite, no going during the World Series next year. I try to point out maybe it would be good luck if we were not in Chicago and they were in the series (very superstitious when it comes to sports) and that they would win if we were far far away. Nope, not flying, so the trip will be sometime in September. But at least now we have our cast of characters set for this trip:

Me – 38, Disney obsessed and crazy planner. DH has described me as having as much fun planning the trips as I do when we actually go on the trip. All my planning buddies understand that – I do love planning, but I love being there even more. Very excited that we now have a second “home” at Disney:woohoo: . Had always talked about it, but never though we would.

DH – 40, an angel at times for putting up with me and my obsession. He does a lot of the “yes, whatever you say” when I start on my Disney tangents. I think he’s probably thinking about sports when I talk about Disney and just says things to placate me. :rotfl2: Perhaps DH could also now be described as having thrown in the towel by letting us buy DVC and realizing I could simply vacation there and be happy and we probably will spend most vacations there. He’s still holding onto the hope that we will use our points elsewhere. Did I mention he can also be a dreamer :lmao:

DFIL & DMIL – DH’s parents are going with us this trip. DH actually places part of the blame for my obsession on them as they took me on my very first trip back in 1995. I think we were only there for four or five days, but that was all I needed. I had always said I loved it, but once we were there, I was completely hooked. DIL’s love Disney as well and try and visit for short trips at least a couple of times a year – they are just not obsessed like me. DFIL is also the original itinerary maker, so I claim to have learned from him. He and DH claim I have taken it to a whole new level..that the only thing missing are bathroom breaks. Not so – they can have one or two a day :rolleyes1

I finally found more updated photos - where everyone looks good and not just me ;) So here's the cast of characters for this trip:

DFIL:
BHRMorocco.jpg

DMIL:
PERMorocci.jpg

Side note: DIL's were at Disney last year for a few days and everyday DMIL would send new photos!

And us:
DisneyPhotoImage02.jpg

So that’s it -the troops are set, now we just need to finalize the days.

January 24th 245 days to go...

Plans are still rolling along when I get an unexpected call from a friend on the boards…Tiggerbell asks how would I like to spend almost two weeks in Disney with her, RhondaLee :-)wave2: Hi Rhonda) and their friend. Well that’s a no brainer…OF COURSE I WOULD. :cheer2:  :cloud9: I can't believe Tiggerbell called to ask  Hey - I could be like Nebo – going for almost two weeks, come back for two weeks and then go on my already planned trip. So I call DH and he really doesn’t care if I go without him (yeah!) so I have the green light. :woohoo:

UNTIL I actually start really thinking about it and talking about it with him at home that night. He reminds me that we are going to Vegas for a week in June (I’ve never been) to see my niece graduate from high school. My niece knows my fear of flying and still made me swear up and down that I would be there. Since she and her brother mean so very much to me, I made the promise. BUT – that cuts into finances this year. Which means, if I’m smart and logical, I’ll have to skip the “extra” trip and just be happy with my week :sad1: :sad1: I’m not going to be happy as this is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity, but I won’t have to take the second mortgage out either to pay for all my fun this year. I’ll still think about it though over the weekend......

SCROLL DOWN...

January 29th 240 days to go
Made the call – not going on the extra trip. :sad2: Decided to be a wee bit fiscally responsible…DH also feels bad now, so maybe we can stay in a little nicer hotel in Vegas :lmao: DH also has not argued yet with my tinkering of our upcoming trip. Since he already has the Monday after our trip off, I decided that we should stay an extra night at AKV. And if he can get two more days through swapping work schedules and maybe some comp time (boy – I wish my company had comp time!) then we could conceivably be at Disney from late on Friday to a week from that following Monday. And if we fly (UGH!!!!) then we would have even more time…which will of course be his argument…as we would get there early on a Friday and technically wouldn’t have to leave until the following Tuesday giving me almost 11 days!!!! Hmmmm flying might almost be worth it this time around. - even as I type that my heart is beating somewhat faster. I’m thinking if I make it through a Vegas flight I might be able to do the Orlando flight and have more time with my main Mouse.

We are also now debating the dining plan. If my spreadsheets are correct – we’ll actually come out ahead using the DDE card. We tend to eat appetizers and skip desserts, so the new plan doesn’t really pan out for us. I’ll miss the convenience of it, especially since it won’t be just me and DH (no worrying about to split the bill) BUT some wise person on the Disboards reminded me that we could just pay with our room key and then DIL’s could give their credit card to the front desk at the end of the trip when we settle up on the bill and just pay for their meals that way. So that means they will get our DDE discount and we do not have to keep carrying a lot of cash with us. But hey – I’m open to arguments both for and against the plan. So let's have them...
