Hey ladies I was wondering what you all use to tame your curly locks. I am looking for a product that I can just use in the morning and not have to worry about the rest of the day. It seems everything I use doesn't last the day. I always wear my hair in a ponytail and it gets really poofy and tangled. I don't want to have to break the bank on any products. Thanks for your advice.

Well first, what are you trying to do with your hair? Are you trying to straighten it? Enhance the curl? Make it sleek like straight hair can get? That will help with product assistance. :)

I've used many products ranging from really inexpensive to embarrassingly pricey ($48 for 1.7 oz of a curl cream -- worthless! And bad for the budget.) and I've found that Pantene Hydrating Curls line works the best!

I get the best results from using the line together (shampoo, conditioner, serum, mousse, and spray gel) but the mousse is my daily standby! It really holds without being "crunchy."

I've found the key to keeping my curls frizz free is to keep my hair well conditioned. I use the Pantene Curls conditioner and deep condition about once a week. Pantene Restoratives makes a good deep conditioning mask.

I also blow dry my hair with a diffuser. That cuts down on frizz and helps define the curl. I got my diffuser at wal-mart for less than $5 and I've had it for about 8 years.

Pantene is the most budget-friendly product line that works for me. And it works the best, even compared to more expensive stuff I've tried.

Good luck!

I use a product called Aveda Hang Straight. It REALLY keeps the tangles and poof down. I can use it to both straighten my hair and also to keep it curly. Not greasy, not sticky and I have a natural look whatever style I go with.

I use Sebastian's Potion 9 which is a leave in conditioner. I have long thick curly hair and I only need to use a small amount. If I want to enhance my curl more in addition, I use that is combination with Framesi's Snapp or Halo's Curl Enhancing Cream

I have crazy curly hair -like I know very few people with my kind of hair.
Coarse and Frizzy and super curly in places.
One thing that I would try is experimenting with amounts. Like if it says dime shaped -I can use a silver dollar sized glob. Also combing the product through my hair when it is wet.
Another thing -you may want to experiment with products for ethnic or "women of color". Some of those work well for me (they are usually a little oily -but my hair can take it) and they are not very expensive.
Pantene has those products as well.
Good luck!

I like Gardnier curl shaping spray, it makes it curly and not poofy or stiff. But I am always trying something else because things just stop working

After I wash my hair I put in a good amount of Aussie Dual Personality Mousse with Leave in Conditioner. It defines my curls and keeps them from tangling and then once they are mostly dry I put them up in a ponytail or loose bun.

I also like to use the Umberto Controller. It's a spray in leave in with a detangler and heat protector. I get it at Target.

I'm like the other poster I've tried all kinds of products, all the expensive stuff at the salon and the cheap stuff in the stores, I can't tell a difference between any of them and none of them work. The one that works kinda the best for me is Pantene Frizz Control Ultra Smoothing Balm. I read in a magazine article once that creams work best on curly hair.

John Frieda's stuff works well for me and my mom. We both have curly hair that is coarse and can be unruly at times. You can find it at Wal-Mart, but if you have a Big Lots, try there. I bought some of hte wind-down creme - love it - for $2. Should have bought all they had and some other spray stuff that helps iwth frizz for $2.50

I second the spray. I have hair that borderlines between wavy and curly plus I go to work at 5 am.

My solution is that I comb through the leave in conditioner with a tad of styling cream into damp hair the night before. I then divide my hair into about 4 sections (I have a chin length bob) and twist and pin each section into a bun. In the morning I take down the pins, then either use the spray or the curl shaping gel to keep some shape. This pretty much keeps the shape going most of the day.

Now for days where it's like 200% humdidity, I dampen the hair in the morning, comb through a combination of deep conditioner and gel then make friends with a wide head band. :rotfl:

I don't have curly hair, but my son has lots of curls! He is biracial, so he has curls but very "white"(sorry, can't think of a better way to describe it) texture. The best products I found were from a site called Curls at http://www.curls.biz/curly-hair-products/curly-hair-products-for-women.html
I used to buy the moisturizers for him there. They moisturized and conditioned, but didn't leave his hair weighed down or oily. They have a lot of natural oil products, which are great at conditioning. Now, he likes his hair buzzed:sad1: so he doesn't use anything.

I'm a stylist, so I'm always on the hunt for the next best thing. As far as curly hair products (I have big, thick curly hair), I really like Catwalk's Curls Rock cream. I don't like TIGI (who also does BedHead), but this works wonders for me!!
I like BioSilk Silk Therapy for straightening and any time glossiness!!

I have curly hair that looks like an 80's perm. To keep from having the retro look I follow this plan:

Wash with John Freida blonde shampoo
Condition with Sleek by Matrix...the best stuff ever.
Mousse with Pantene curl defining
Hair Spray with either Herbal Essense spritz or Thermasilk aerosol.
Dry and add more hair spray.

My hair and doesn't frizz and isn't really stiff. Works for me.

One of my sisters who has Extremely Curly tight hair gets Japanese Straightening done about 2 times a year. It lasts a really long time and she loves it...she has be having it done for at least 5 years. As her roots come in(since they are really curly) it gives a slight lift, but the weight keeps it fairly straight. It is expensive-but she saves a ton of time and has the hair she wants.

I have long curly hair. My favorite product is Bedhead Creative Genius(it is by Tigi). But it is getting harder and harder to find. The Curls Rock is good, too, but it's hard to find as well. A good cheap alternative for me is Samy Mousse(it's in a yellow bottle--can't remember the exact mousse name--it's something about curls). One thing I learned to look out for when shopping for products is to avoid anything with alcohol as a main ingredient--it dries out hair which leads to frizz.

I may have to try some of these other products mentioned here--especially the Matrix stuff. I do use Pantene Blonde Expressions shampoo and conditioner.

I'm curious--TotalSnowWhite--why don't you like TIgi?Just wondering if there's something I need to know about the company....

My daughter, 14, does not like her curls. After a few flat irons we found the Chi works the best. It is expensive, but she said it works faster than the others and stays the way she wants it (it is one of the hottest I could find). We got it for her for Christmas. Her hair stays straight for days.

I love my TIGI curls rock stuff! both the spray and the lotion. soft curls. i don't blow dry, though, that also may have something to do with it.

I also have curly, prone to frizzy hair - that I color. I have found a fairly successful routine that works if I wear curly or straighten. I use the Pantene moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. About once a week I follow up with Joico Moisture Recovery for an intense condition - it's like butter! I put the Pantene Frizz Control in my hair wet, then put it in a towel loosely while I do makeup, etc. Then when I take it out of the towel I use Chi Silk Infusion (which I LOVE, was recommended to me by my stylist) then blow dry for about a minute, just to kind of get it going the way I want it to lay - and done. Wow - what a pain it is to have curly hair!
