Sharing a meal at Yachtsman Steakhouse

My DH and I were thinking of ordering an appetizer to share, then sharing an entree. This would leave us room for dessert. He is more of a meat eater and I would rather leave lots of room for dessert. :D We will also have our DS(10) who will be ordering the child's steak and dessert. Has anyone ever split a meal here? Did they seem to have a problem with it? Thanks!

It is allowed.
You may opt to dine in the Crew's Cup Lounge. It is adjacent to YSH and during dinner hours they offer the Steakhouse Menu items in the lounge. They just do not accept any Package Plans in the lounge. You also do not need to have Priority Seating for the lounge (first come, first served) and you seat yourself.
There are about 5 booths and a few 4-top tables available in the lounge.

We've split an entree, but only when we both ordered appetizers and dessert as well.

They will allow it, but keep in mind that your bill will be much lower and compensate your server appropriately. :)

We've done that at Yachtsman because we both wanted dessert. They split the order in the kitchen, which was nice! When we do this, we always tip as if we both ordered a full entree....:)

We ate our meals there. The sizes were not huge, they were just right for us, but we didn't eat appetizers. So, I can see your dilemma! But I loved my meal there. It was a favorite (chef kind of came up with something off menu that worked for my allergies and it was SO delicious!)
Enjoy. If you share app, entree, then order desserts and you're still hungry, I am certain they will bring you more food. ;)

Can you do this if you are on the dining plan? My DH and I want to eat there, and I was thinking that a 28oz porterhouse steak would be plenty of entree for the two of us, if we order appetizers and/or sides (we would use 2 TS credits for the main meal, then pay OOP for any appetizers and/or sides). Does anyone know if this is allowed?

Thanks,

KC

Yes, you can share a meal at Yachtsman regardless of payment method. Sometimes the kitchen will split the dishes in the back, other times they'll bring out an extra plate. I've hadn't any problems sharing at most of the venues in Disney World (VN is the well-known exception, along with the usual buffets, all-you-care-to-eat, fixed price meals, dinner shows, and dining packages).

I believe the 28 oz has been replaced with a 32 oz for 2. Meaning 4 TS credits are required.

We also had intentions of sharing this next trip since we could barely finish it last time. Wouldn't surprise me if sharing (as well as cost-cutting) may be one of the reasons it changed.

The most recent menu that has been posted (Disney website, allears) shows that the 28 oz Porterhouse has been replaced with a 32 oz Porterhouse for 2 so Lehuaann is correct that it would take 4 dining credits. You can, however, share one of the smaller steak dinners that is still on the menu and use just 2 credits.

DS 10? Isn't that an adult at a WDW? You won't be able to order the child's steak.

Most restaurants will let someone older than 9 order from the children's menu. Occasionally someone will post that they weren't able to so it's best to ask. Most likely it will be fine at YS.

I do know that with rare exceptions, anyone can order a kids meal at WDW. What I wasn't aware of is that two can share one TS meal when on the DDP. I know it's fine when paying OOP but thought it generally was not allowed on DDP. Good to know!!

This thread is from 2008. My DS is now 22.

FWIW, my DH & I still often share entrees at WDW restaurants. However, we do order at least 2 appetizers & 2 desserts, because that's the parts of the meal I enjoy most. I could skip entrees altogether, but DH disagrees. Obviously, we don't use DDP.
