As usual I am running behind all you young folks. (gasping)

lisalonglash, have you considered checking out the Lego site? This time of the year they have free shipping. Also ebay has quite a few folks who sell odd lots of Legos. Some of mine are over 30 years old and still going strong. I love Lego's. Make sure you check out the Lego store at DTD as it is a great place to get those odd pieces. If you buy any connecting pieces put them together before stacking in the fill it up cup for maximum value.

DisneyMom5, good grief is there nothing you cannot do? Those pumpkins are works of art.

Yep, matter of mind over matter. If you don't mind it don't matter.

As one who grew up eating rabbits, squirrels and other assorted wood creatures it is all what you believe to be normal that makes the difference.

I actually like fried blood. Must be my English side of the family in me. I have to confess that I am not too partial to much of the genuine English food that I have been offered. Maybe I am going to the wrong places though. Never met a chocolate I did not like, no matter the country.

Back to work as I have a grandchild to pick up in a bit. He has promised to put in some new light bulbs for me. I will die of shock if it actually happens. Heck, him even remembering that I asked him (a month ago) impresses me. I expect little and am seldom surprised or disappointed.

Nope I am from Lancashire, Manchester area.
Black pudding...wellllllllllllll.....not everybody likes these and I would probaly not have tried them if I would have known what they were made of, but seeing as I tried them before I could walk I am now hooked....they are made of pigs blood.
Mind over matter...get what you mean...I actually work in school teaching ICT, ages 4 to 11. I manage to 'ignore' 30 at once lol.

Keep me in mind if you would like any bits posting over, I read about your interest, and would love to send some things for you

I am an only child, and as you can see I have 2 of my own, I wish I would have had more, but we will hopefully be fostering at the end of the month, and then I will become a sahm, I cant wait, I love creating a good home for my family and being creative. My christmas cakes are just comming out of the oven, not that I like xmas cake.
talk soon
A x

Ok, Manchester I get. Not really good at the whole map of England, but I get the gist.

When I was a little girl my parents would get a pig from a friend to butcher, and they would make blood sausage, which I think is similar in general theming to blood pudding. Blech. I can still taste, smell and picture it.

What's ICT?
As you probably read I work at a "school" that has a 8th grader, 6th grader, 3rd. grader, Kindergartener, and 2 preschoolers, with a baby thrown in for good measure. I wish I had a mind to matter. LOL But I can tune them out when I need to. :thumbsup2

I'm going to have to think over your offer! Very kind and generous. Not even sure what I would like to see from there. Hmmmm....

Fostering, eh? Wow, that's an unthanked job. Blessings on that!
You will stop your teaching then?

Christmas cakes...is that "fruit cake?" I'm not a big fan either.

[Just was pondering that my punctuation may give my Brit friends fits if the author of "Eats, Shoots, and Leaves" is to be trusted!]

Peanut I could tell you were British when you said brill too :rotfl2: And black pudding :scared1: I've shown pictures of pork pies to some of my US friends and they were scared of them :rotfl2:

I've got to believe that there are some tasty eats in England, but the stories I hear are all :scared1:

I'm all caught up! I know, you were waiting for me, right???? :rotfl2:

Oh, good, so I can post now? :lmao:
No, you should have no trouble keeping up at this speed, I am in no hurry!

Loved your last update and the pumpkins are fantastic!:goodvibes

Thanks! I will keep them around for a week or so, until they start to rot. Hate to waste all that work!

I think this discussion should have been on the Food Report Thread. LOL
My parents like cow's tongue, and pig's feet also. Blech.

As usual I am running behind all you young folks. (gasping)

Here, let me lend you a hand :flower3:

I love Lego's. Make sure you check out the Lego store at DTD as it is a great place to get those odd pieces. If you buy any connecting pieces put them together before stacking in the fill it up cup for maximum value.
I was really hoping the boys would get those buckets of odd pieces, but they didn't...if I had had time I would have snuck back in for Christmas gifts!

DisneyMom5, good grief is there nothing you cannot do? Those pumpkins are works of art.

Thanks! Actually, there is little I can do exceptionally well. A bit of a Jack of all Trades, Master of None kind of person. I can copy pictures pretty well, but am extremely challenged at doing anything original.
But I enjoy it, so that's the most important, right? :)

I am open to any food, cooked any way, but I don't have to like it!

Just as long as there is no actual "shocking" involved when he changes them!!!

Got to upload the Halloween costume pics.
More later!

We definitely do have the best chocolate, Cadburys :cloud9:

That's awesome news, I didn't know that - I will check it out, THANK YOU! At this point, our plan is to zip across the line to Wal-Mart in WA state (takes less than 15 minutes from our garage to the parking lot of Wal-Mart in Bellingham) to get Lego and other Christmas presents, but I will check out the site again first to see if the Cdn prices have come down yet. As our CDN$ is now at 1.07, but the prices here haven't come down even to par yet (never mind we're now at 7 cents over par), our plan is to shop US LOL It'll save us A LOT of money, so it's worth it!

I love this board - everyone's so nice and helpful!

lisalonglash, of course everyone is nice around here. That is why YOU are here is it not? Everyone knows something about something and we all share the knowledge and we all get smarter. Ain't the Internet a wondrous thing?

Just do not ask me about anything to do with MATH!!:teacher:

Christmas cake is fruit, and cherries and other bits, oh and must not forget the rum (eh Jack) you feed the cake every so often with rum over the next few weeks before crimbo, and btw I dont like christmas cake either, but my 2 boys do, my DS 18 and my other man in my life so got to keep them happy.

BTW my other half likes his beer also, hes a bitter man, a pint of boddys goes down well.

Oh and also I love tongue sandwiches mmmmmmmm, but not pigs feet:sad2:

ICT - Information Communication Technology.....in other words computers!

Once we start fostering I will give up work, I may keep 10 hours but the idea is to become a SAHM and a housewife as such, I love crafts and baking, I have a great big embroidery machine that I dont get to use as much as I would like, and I would love to give quilting a real go instead of just little bits here and there, I have saved lots of my childrens baby clothes, little dresses and sailor suits, and just my faves so I am going to make a quilt out of them, a memory quilt, every little bit of it will have something of each child.

look forward to the next installment. Keep in touch

Gee, just what we need MORE talented folks around here. Luckily you all have me, inept me, to even things out though. :rotfl2:

peanut1967, I love the idea of a quilt. Maybe you could make an additional one or two from each child's old clothing to make baby quilts for that far off and wonderful day?

I used to make a fruitcake that had to be 'fed' daily for weeks up til the holiday. Funny thing was that all my teetotal friends loved it the most. It is the same recipe they use at the White House too. :dance3:

I didnt actually like to say that, but yes it would be wonderful for future grand children, a quilt made of baby clothes from there parents awwww, love it. Its also a nice idea if you lose someone special, its hard to get rid of clothing so save some and make a quilt of love.

peanut1967, I are a 'GEN U INE" Hick as I grew up in the hills of southern Ohio. Everyone was 'pur' so we did not know that we did not have a pot. Actually since our family had a 3 seater we were wealthy compared to some. Our old clothes were torn up and used to make rag rugs. Doubt that there was enough material left in any of them to even make patches for a patchwork quilt or else my mom did not know how to quilt. With 8 kids I doubt that she had the time. :rotfl2:

I love the idea of a memory quilt but doubt that my kids would like to be reminded of the time in their life when lime green and orange was actually considered a good color combination. :rotfl: I force them to watch reruns of The Brady Bunch to defend my clothing choices, like I actually HAD a choice!!

You might suggest to AKLSunshine/Alicia, who recently lost her sweet little boy about the memory quilt. There is a thread for her on the CB. Might be something for her to work on this long, hard winter or next.

This is so odd, I saw pumkins EXACTLY like this on a porch near me the other day!!! WOW! I mean WHAT are the odds!!!?????:confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

IN honor of the holiday, I thought I'd post my pumpkins. I always try to go with a theme. This year is Monster's Inc. I am not really happy w/ the Boo pumpkin, but I like the rest.
Enjoy!

I do like some Cadbury's. I used to like dark chocolate more, which I hear is a bit more European, but the older I get the more I like milk chocolate.
From what I'm told, Europeans think our chocolate (along with our bacon :confused3 ) is pathetic.

I was watching PBS's Masterpiece Theatre's "The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard" last night, so as I am typing I am hearing everything in a lovely British accent.
Quite an eye opener to British politics.
Has that show been on over there?

I hear Boddington's is good. Dh will have to try that next. He is craving Black and Tan's having now been exposed to their beery goodness. We can get both Guiness and Bass at our local grocery store, BUT he doesn't have a proper glass to pour it in. Sigh. Perhaps a Christmas gift?

So what exactly had you in mind to post over? You've got my curiosity peaked.

This is so odd, I saw pumkins EXACTLY like this on a porch near me the other day!!! WOW! I mean WHAT are the odds!!!?????:confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Pretty good, considering you seem to drive by here often enough to crash parties and such.
:rolleyes1

I think I saw your mom in Meijers the other day, but I was too chicken, that I was wrong, to say hi. LOL

Hoping to get an update done soon.

DisneyMom5, I am hard pressed to think of you being chicken to do much of anything. You should have went right up to the lady and asked. Even if you were wrong I still bet you would have had a lovely conversation. I often do such with wrong numbers.

I will arm wrestle you for all the dark chocolate.

The sad thing was, I was drawing a blank on her name, so it would have been a "Don't I know you?" Which I try very hard not to do. Just in case they don't. Or prefer to ACT like they don't. :rolleyes1

Must run, assisting dd13 in preparing from scratch backed beans to go with our Bratwurst. Mmmmmmmm........

assisting dd13 in preparing from scratch backed beans to go with our Bratwurst. Mmmmmmmm........

Having made baked beans, from scratch, many times I am perplexed at this. Were you just starting? I have to start mine the night before, all that soaking etc. I know how to make Bratwurst and other sausages from scratch too but then I grew up country. :thumbsup2

I am curious, did you scratch the back of each individual bean? That would be time consuming.

No matter, bet it all turned out fantastic. Did you make cornbread to go with??

Did you save any for us?:confused3

SG

:lmao:

Ahem, that would be "BAKED" beans.

No, I did cheat and use Randall's beans. But all the rest of ingredients we added. Not Van De Kamp's or Bush's beans. They were tasty too!
The bacon to bean ratio was just perfect. I think I would prefer Baked Bacon w/ beans. LOL

I am not sure if my parents made Brats (that would be BRATWURST, lest you talk unkindly about my siblings and I, LOL). They did make breakfast pork sausage and blood sausage (yuck) and liver sausage (in casing, seeps out all gray and disgusting, yuck also.) I used to help fill the casings when I was a little girl.
They haven't done their own processing in years and years. You can't really do it yourself now.

No cornbread, unfortunately, because the brats were in buns (too much bread, can there be such a thing?), and we had some baked butternut squash with it, which I thought was delicious, but only one other person (ds8) would eat. Sigh.

Tonight is roast and veggies, already in the crockpot. I like that kind of meal, but I don't think of it early enough very often.

I really need to do an update, but I am doing fervent cleaning on the house, as John's high school friend may be visiting this weekend. And he is unfamiliar with the chaos here, so we are attempting to make a good impression. :rolleyes1

Big News!
John says "You know, if we get the credit card paid off, we can go to WDW again."

"No matter when that is?"
"No matter when that is."

:scared1:

I suspect it may just be a ploy to get me to be even more frugal than I am (and if you know me in IRL, you know I am the frugal queen. I read the "Complete Tightwad Gazette" book over and over. She, is a master.)

But no matter the motivation, I AM going to hold him to that!

AND....
We're getting new carpeting. :scared1: :scared1:
Our old carpet in our Liv. room is torn up the middle, and has been for years. This is big news for us.

:dance3:

So anyway, just wanted to take a break from the fervent cleaning mentioned in my reply to SG and tell you all about that.

More later....
