bottle size for check-in bags

I feel stupid, but am not sure about the size of like shampoo bottles, etc...that can be put in your check in bags. Some of my stuff is bigger than 3 ounces. I couldn't find a mousse smaller than 6 ounces. Is this okay?

Also, could I bring a juice box thru security in a bag onto the plane or at least the gate area? It would not be opened. If we have to have breakfast at airport I wanted to bring the stuff DS would eat.

It is so hard now to pack w/out fear of scrutiny.

Thanks to all the frequent travelers for the help...

You'll be fine having a 6oz mousse in your checked luggage. You cannot have it in your carryon luggage. Just to be safe, I suggest you put all the toiletries that are going in your checked luggage into ziploc bags to prevent against leaks. Having that mousse, or anything like it, all over your clothes won't make for a good first day of vacation. :)

Only liquids that are 3oz or less and can all fit into a quart size ziploc bag can be taken through security. I'm pretty sure juice boxes are larger than that. If you try to take it through security, they'll take it away. You can buy juices and other liquids after you go through security to be taken on the plane. That might be an option if you want to make sure your son has his favorite juice for the trip.

Good luck :)

Checked baggage there is no restriction on container size.

Important point about carry on bags, the ORIGINAL container of the product can't be more than 3 ounces. DS has a bottle of Aloe Vera sunburn lotion confiscated in Hawaii (after he got a bad sunburn) with about an ounce in the bottle, but the bottle had an 8 ounce capacity. So had to walk to the gift shop inside the secure area, next to the security checkpoint to buy a new full bottle for the flight.

For carry on regs - you can always check the TSA website for the updates -

I just flew last week - Rule for carry ons is 1 quart size ziplock per person - with 3oz or less containers. There is an exception for meds, baby formula etc - but I am not sure of those regulations.

They will take away any water bottles, juice boxes, etc - but you can conveniently buy these same products just on the OTHER side of security for 5 times the cost....

For checked luggage - pack whatever size you want - but I always double ziplock stuff to prevent any disasters.

Have fun!

I have a related question. We are not flying down, we're driving so I don't have to worry about airline regulations. The last time we cruised, there weren't any rules about carrying stuff onto the ship. Has that changed, or do I need to worry about what I can carry onto the ship in my carryon bag?

Nothing to worry about... unless you try to take a pirate sword onboard :thumbsup2

I just checked the TSA website and they are making allowances for people with small children. Breast milk, formula and juice are now allowed in "reasonable quantities". It mentions babies and toddlers in one spot and babies and young children in another. The juice would have to be separate from the quart-bag, and you have to declare it and have security further inspect it for explosives. It says they will not make you or your child taste it, and you should not bring more than is needed for the flight itself. Here is the link for the article on the TSA website. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/formula.shtm
Whether or not it would be worth the trouble is up to you.
