Any speculation on whether the cruise would leave from Seattle, WA or Vancouver, BC? I'm not too familiar with Alaska cruises, so I'm not sure which is more common... We live 3 hours south of Seattle, so I'm personally hoping for that port!!!

No matter where the ship leaves from, my family and I are going to have to fly. I'm pretty darn sure it's not leaving from Tennessee!

It would be a more scenic cruise if it left from Vancouver, with potentially calmer seas on the first day. It would also have an extra Alaskan port rather than a Canadian port like Victoria or Prince Rupert, to satisfy the "foreign port" requirement for ships leaving from Seattle. However, it's easier and cheaper to fly to Seattle. I don't see DCL doing one-way cruises between Vancouver and Seward/Whittier - although you need a one-way cruise to spend time in the Alaskan interior before or after the cruise.

I loved our 2007 Alaska cruise and land trip so much that I'm doing it again in 2008. I don't know that I'd pay a premium price to go to Alaska with DCL, especially with so many kids onboard.

are you looking for specific cruiseline? Depending on itinery, it could leave from Seattle or Vancouver. Generally speaking, the sail is a little bumpy going out of Seattle.

The OP is hoping DCL will go to Alaska in 2009, and is speculating as to whether it would leave from Vancouver or Seattle. I think it would appeal to more people if it left from Seattle, but I mentioned the advantages of leaving from Vancouver.

Seattle would be awsome for us as well. We never have vacations that don't require a flight somewhere. The port of Seattle is closer to us than the airport is.

Back at ya Whidbey5. I was wondering how close you might be with your screen name. We are in Silver Lake, so fairly close to you.

My dh really wants to do an Alaska cruise and he might be able to talk me into it if it is Disney. I am a tropical kinda girl so Alaska is not my first choice.

I personally dont care we live 2 hours from Canada and one hour from seattle i'm hoping seattle that way but all i know is if it works out we dont have to fly by the way waving at you all from Arlington

Do any of the cruises leaving out of Seattle go one-way, or are they all round-trip Seattle? I think ships leaving out of Vancouver go either one-way or round trip, but thought because of regulations the itineraries out of Seattle go only as far north as Skagway, Ketchican and Juneau and then head again south, stopping in Victoria for regulation's sake. The one-way itin. goes deeper into clacier country.....we've done both several times.

We went on an Alaska cruise for our honeymoon, flew into Seattle and took a motocoach to the port. If I ever do another Alask cruise (and I hope to one day) Two things I will do different:
1) Give me a day of rest, flying from the east coast and getting on the ship wore us out!
2) Take advantage of any "interior" extended land trips

Many Canadian cruisers may be secretly (or not so secretly) hoping for Vancouver as the departure point, as Vancouver International Airport is a major airport and we may be able to get there more cheaply on domestic airlines from pretty much anywhere in Canada than it would cost to go to Seattle (except for people really close to Buffalo and/or Detroit where it may be cheaper to fly direct to Seattle).

Vancouver may be particularly interested in hosting DCL, as they are also hosting the 2010 Olympics and likely want to generate early buzz/interest and tourism dollars? The vistas as you cruise out of Vancouver are amazing - I have not seen what it's like to leave Seattle, but I have watched cruise ships leave Vancouver from a vantage point on land in North Vancouver. It's a great view from land, and would be equally amazing from Deck 10!

You are correct that ships from Seattle only do round-trip cruises, although some ships go as far north as Hubbard Glacier. I don't think there are regulations about how far north the ships can go, but they have to turn around - so they are limited by time. Roundtrip cruises that leave from San Francisco usually last 10 days, instead of the usual 7, because of the extra distance. Ships leaving from a US port do have to visit a "foreign port" in Canada, so that's why all ships leaving from Seattle and San Francisco stop in Victoria or Prince Rupert. Unfortunately - the stop is often only for a few short hours.
