Advice needed

Okay, camera folks. I have a little bit of a hard decision to make. Maybe you can help me out with it.
1. I have 3 film slr's. Canon A1, Minolta, and Canon rebel.
2. I have a Mamiya RB67.
Here is my problem. My Dad left me all these except the canon rebel which I bought myself. With this day and age I am happy using a digital slr. In fact I am getting myself a new canon 40D. I dont know what to do with these other cameras. I love not having to deal with developing film. I looked on B&H and the RB67 is worth about 700.00. Now mind you this camera is a dinosaur, but it is still an awesome dinosaur. I have used it but the film is high, the cost of developing is high. I think I would just assume to buy the Canon D5 for a full frame. The others I am not sure. Any suggestions on what I should do with all this equipment?

there is definitely a market for the rb67 if you are looking to sell it on ebay. it's a fantastic camera and the 6x7 format is very nice (and slides scan beautifully). anyway there are lots of us out there who love shooting medium format and don't find the cost to be prohibitive. i don't think the price of $700 is something you'd expect, however. right now there are quite a few on offer, so it's best to wait until there is a bit of a lull and don't make the auction too long.

the 35mm slrs - there is still a market for them, but nowhere as popular as medium format cameras. if the a1 is black and scratch free, then it's probably the best of your bunch but still maybe $100 or so

I was in the same boat. A bunch of older film equipment that I just wasn't useing anymore. I just dumped it all. It kinda hurts to take a beating on the equipment but unless you plan on hanging on to it till it becomes collector stuff, there is no real point to hanging on to it.

I dumped a minolta 700 setup all seperately on ebay. I almost got more for the auto winder than any lens or body.

an educated customer gets the best deal. Well so does an educated seller. Watch the auctions and watch the trends, see what sells well and when or why.

I got more for the auto winder and one lens than a camera broker was willing to give me for the whole setup.

I tried to give away an old film Pentax K1000 to the local highschool for their photography program but they didn't want it because they had already moved on to digital.

Found someone at a local camera shop who wanted it and got enough out of it to buy my Canon Nifty Fifty.

Our local second-hand camera shop is still getting (or at least asking) three figures for used K1000s. They're kind of a cult classic. But I'm hanging on to mine.

Pixeldust Fairy, you could always donate the Mamiya to a good home - I've been wanting to try my hand at medium-format but doubt I'll have money that I'm willing to put towards a decent camera any time soon. (Cue 0bli0 recommending a cheap Zorki. OK, a fair point but I still probably am going to funnel my camera money into the DSLR setup. ) Seriously, eBay is probably your best bet, I would think.

Or, just clear out some shelf space somewhere and display them. I've got a very modest camera display now and it's fun having the old cameras around even if they rarely get use.

I'm right there with ya. I've got my dad's old K1000, complete with JC Penny 135mm telephoto lens and Vivitar flash. Haven't taken a picture with it in probably 15 years, but for sentimental reasons, I'll never part with it. My N90s and SB-28, on the other hand, can go in a second for the right price...
