If you want to arrive a day or two prior to the start of the tour will someone from ABD meet us at the airport or we need to find our own way to the hotel? :confused3

Hi, We did Viva Italia last year. I'm thinking this question should best be answered by the ABD folks, but if I was to guess, I would say this is not possible due to the fact that the adventure guides that would meet you at the airport are ending the previous tour (in Venice) or in transit themselves from another location. The ABD guides are only at the hotels when you would be, so there would be no one to meet you a day or two early.

I highly recommend getting to Rome a couple of days early. It will be hard to enjoy the beginning of the tour (and Rome is the most insense portion) if you are suffering from jet lag. It is a shame not to take advantage of those transfers, but you will get to see more of Rome, and have a day or two to get acclimated.

You need to ask ABD directly about this.

I explicitly asked this question to ABD when I booked the trip (with pre & post days) and requested/required them to document on my paperwork that they would be providing the transfers to and from the airport. It did take several requests to get this documented.

On our pre-day, we were met at the airport customs exit by an ABD representative (not one of the guides) and they took us to meet the driver. We were driven by private car to the hotel.

On the return trip (post-day), the guides arrranged the private car to meet us at our desired time at the hotel. The ABD guides were leaving for their next assignment, so they left me the contact information for the driver in case anything changed.

In your travel packet, they will provide a contact number to reach ABD in case something goes wrong on your trip. I'd keep that number handy.

Just FYI... the only problem we had with ABD was the transportation issue.

Our day of departure is a very long story... it actually turned into "two" days of departure. I do recommend that you carry that "24-hour emergency contact number" they give you but - when I tried to call it - I got a recording that said, "Thank you for calling Adventures by Disney, our offices are currently closed. If you would like more information on Adventures by Disney, please press 1....." Nice - real nice. Fortunately, one of the other travelers with us had the (407) number (Orlando,) and I was able to reach a person at that number.

But - after explaining to them that we had missed our connector flight back to the states... I was told that they would have an agent call us back. (ABD got us to the airport too late to make our flight, but Alitalia had cancelled it, anyway.)

That was Saturday... I still haven't heard from them. For all they know, we're still stuck in Rome.

The whole experience was very "un-Disney," and was a darn shame that such a wonderful trip had to end that way...

We would consider traveling with ABD, again, but we will definitely consider different solutions for our air travel. (No Alitalia!!!!)

Oh yuck and nightmares! That is exactly why I want to get a DL flight out of Atlanta and not a 'partner airline' out of Newark or somewhere else. My DH isn't keen on air travel anyway and something like this would put the kibosh on future travel. I realize it can happen at any time anywhere but it creates a whole other set of issues in a foreign country.

Thanks for your post Beth. It's always best to be prepared for the good, bad and the oops.

Hi, I asked this question too since considering going on a trip this summer. If you book their pre-night hotels with ABD they will pick you up at the airport and transfer to hotel. If you book hotel on your own, then you are on your own to get to hotel first day for start of the trip. I agree though make sure to get it documented on the forms that transfers are included etc if you get the extra hotel nights.

Did it cost you extra to have this done, and how much??

By the way, thanks for sharing this!!

No extra cost. The trips normally include the private transfers.

But, I wanted to be clear with ABD about the service that they were going to provide since we were arriving a day early. One clarification, we booked the extra pre-day and post-day directly with ABD.

That's the key! I talked to ABD and they said if you book a pre-day or post-day directly with them (or a travel agent that works with them) the transfers are included in the package.
