Is Le Celliar All That?

After reading several reviews, I feel like I won the lottery when I was able to book a ADR for Le Celliar for our upcoming trip in March. So give the details, what menu items do you recommend, how do we get there (the boat?), what is a near by good spot to view the fireworks after dinner. We were in Epcot last visit but with the kids we did not spend a lot of time in the World Showcase, except for visiting the princesses in Norway.

You can get there by boat from the MGM or any of the Epcot Resorts, Swan, Dolphin, BW, Yacht/Beach, but it's not much of a walk from any of those. No view of Illuminations from inside, we tend to gravitate to the Rose&Crown area for that.

I've favored the 14 oz NY strip steak the last two trips there. Don't miss the cheddar cheese soup and the grilled asparagus at about $3 or so is a steal. My wife often loads up on a large salad, the cheese soup and asparagus and I'll share a slice of cow. The portions are generous. If you're beer drinkers, try a La Fin Du Monde, I think I nearly spelled that right, but only one or two, they're 9% alcohol.

BTW, we have ressies for Feb. 29 at 7:00, March 3 at 6:20 and March 6 at 6:10. Maybe we'll see you there.

I have the cheese soup on my list and I love, love, love grilled asparagus. My DH will be very happy with a good steak and I heard the desserts were good too.

I was actually inquiring about taking the boat within Epcot, isn't Canada on the opposite site of the world showcase. Sorry if that is a dumb questions, we just didn't do a lot of Epcot last time and I got Blisters from walking to and from Norway.

I had heard about the fireworks view from the Rose & Crown but wanted to give DH a good meal.... not too sure about the other Epcot dinning options so I thought that LeCelliar would be a good choice. I was considering Kona or Boatwrights but I think this will be our Epcot day and wanted to stay in the park.

Canada is not much of a walk from either entrance. We stay at Swan, Dolphin or BoardWalk, so we enter Epcot through the International Gateway, hang a left, pass the Rose & Crown and we're there. Be sure to catch Off Kilter when they play at Canada and the British Invasion in England. If you enter Epcot's Future World, head straight to WS, turn right and Canada is first. If you find yourself on the opposite shore as your time approaches, a boat might help, but we'll circle WS one or more times a day without much trouble. Treat yourselves to some good running shoes, forget sandals or dress shoes. This link migh be helpful:

Oh very helpful the comments and the map, Thanks you. My DH will love the music at Epcot and we missed that last time too. I don't know why I thought Canada on the other side of the Lagoon?? Of course, Canada is next to the UK and not America.... Good thing I have a bit of planning time to get it together. I am surprised that I could get all my ADRs for that week.... could it be a really great slow time of year to go. We love going in March.

I was there on my last trip, thanks to a DISer who transferred her ressie to me.

I had the barley soup which was excellent and the main course was the beef tips (we had lunch there) which were tender and also excellent. Our server, Benjamin was great. I think he said "awesome" more times than a California surfer dude... While I was waiting for my friend to show up, I got to hear them singing their national anthem in the doorway.

LeCellier is NOT all that! I think you'll get an OK meal but keep your expectations in check. It has always been one of the restaurants I just never understood the affection. But if you have never been there; it's worth a shot...everyone has their own tastes & opinions. You might come out as one of those cheese soup or pretzel bread lovers!

I’m with GolfCrazy we ate there last Friday night and it was a good meal but nothing stood out. Our meal we had at Wolfgang’s was much better. Sorry but I think it's over rated.

Most of the people in our group would probably tell you it is overrated.

Stick with their specialty - Mushroom Filet, and you will be fine. I LOVED the mushroom filet! It had risotto, whichh I love anyway, but my filet was cooked perfectly, and was very tender. The cheese soup was good, but a bit salty for me. I did like the pretzel breadsticks, too. My MIL had the boulliabase and was completely unimpressed, so stay away from that.

Mushroom filet. Go with that.

I really enjoyed my two Le Cellier meals in 2005. Although just a gut feeling, I think one of the reasons it gained such a wider following is that initially it was a 2 credit restaurant. When it went to 1 credit and became one of the best dollar values per dining credit, it became alot harder to get ADRs because there was a definately a *how much can we wring out of the plan* phase at that time. So while it was much enjoyed previously, the condiment of dollar satisfaction helped season the food further.

As well as the tasty food, I found it a very relaxing restaurant as it feels quite removed from the hustle of the park once you're seated. I have booked Le Cellier for my birthday dinner on my trip next month. I hope you enjoy your meal too!

Oh my! I agree 100%. My favorite meal at WDW . Everytime I say I'm going to order something different, but I just love their mushroom risotto and the filet mignon is sooo good with it. My appetizers I do change up though. I tried the duck two ways for the first time this past May and discovered I really like duck. Their vine ripened tomato stack is good also, as are their mussels. I'm probably one of the few that don't really care for the cheese soup (too salty and I don't like the smoked bacon taste in it). I love their creme brulee sampler for dessert, but unfortunately I read that they are discontinuing their delicious maple creme brulee.

I'll be there Sept 29th and again in Dec and am determined this time to order something besides the filet with mushroom risotto. At least I hope I can . For some reason those words just flow out of my mouth everytime I go in there.

I had no problems with the QUALITY of the food;it was the QUANTITY that I didn't like. Le Cellier was the only WDW restaurant that I have left just as hungry as when I entered it.

My experiences don't invalidate yours, if you left hungry, then you left hungry. In more than a half dozen meals over the last 2 years we haven't come close to this. The last 2 dinners we had there this March, my wife had a salad, cheese soup and grilled asparagus and a small portion of my steak. I had the majority of the steak and soup and asparagus plus one beer. We waddled out, and on one occasion she took some salad back to the BW in a doggie bag. I'm 5' 10" and about 165 with a pretty healthy appetite, so take this for what it's worth.

That makes sense to me about how the dinning plan affects the restraunts.

We will not be on the dinning plan this time and my DH is not a big fan of Disney food in general. We are only booking character meals for the kids and I thought maybe one or two WDW if they are really good. Just to give you a little insight into DH, we are staying off site this time and one of the main reasons is that DH wants the ability to eat non-disney food. I am all into the convience of grabbing something on the property. I was hoping LeCelliar would satisfy everyone. Plus my whole family loves steak. Anyways we are just looking for quality=price for one dinner during our stay and hoping we can find this on Disney Property.

I know opinions are a mixed bag based on preferences but was hoping the have one nice dinner on property maybe I should switch to one of the nicer resort restraunts (like Kona or California Grill) and the kids would get a kick of riding the monorail to/from Epcot.

As with all restaurants, if you like that type of food, and the restaurant does it well, you will like it. LC gets RAVE reviews on the DIS, and, for steak lovers, I'm sure it is a great choice.

We are not steak lovers, so we don't even think of going to LC. If we decided to go, we'd probably be less than thrilled with it- to our family, steak just isn't an exciting or interesting thing on a restaurant menu. So, we leave it to the folks who will apprecaite it, and we head to Marrakesh, San Angel, or Teppan Edo. We get the type of restaurant experience and cuisine we like, and we leave an ADR open for another family who will enjoy their LC experience.

So, to make a long story short, IMO, LC is NOT all that- but to others, it most certainly IS!!

Also, I must add- every time I think of the phrase "all that"- I think of Dr. Drakken saying, "You think you're all that, Kim Possible, but you're NOT!!"

IMHO - No. i liked the look/feel of the place, but the food, especially the steak (both mine and my DH's - we got different dishes) was so/so.

We both agreed that we had both had better steaks (texture and flavor) elsewhere.

would i go back to Le Celliar??? probably yes, i have heard that their burgers are to die for and that might be worth a try back at lunch time. Plus, the cheese soup was fantastic and i could make a meal out of it and the breadsticks alone.

My mother thinks the reason we both left so hungry was we were on the free dining plan and they adjusted our portion sizes accordingly.
