Oh my god this is so exciting!!! Well, Mark and I met at the Disney’s BoardWalk Resort in the summer of 2002 when I was doing my college program, he was my trainer!!! I know this is so cheesy, but the day I met him I knew that he was the one!

So, I got in touch with DFTW this week and have gotten about 700 emails from Joe De Matei, I think he’s the initial wedding planner, before we get our wedding coordinator…he’s just a DOLL! We are going to be married on January 24, 2008 at the BoardWalk Resort-Sea Breeze point, just mere steps from where we met at Community Hall! I’m hoping to have our reception brunch at the Attic, but I think we’re going to have too many people…in that case, I guess we’ll go to either Atlantic Dance Hall or the California Grill at the Contemporary…I want to have a desert party at Epcot later on that night and have a resort photo session in between brunch and the desert party…

My engagement ring and wedding band are so beautiful! My wedding band is canary diamonds and my engagement ring is a 2 ct. solitaire! I just love it!!!

I can’t wait to follow up with Joe on Monday!!! This is so exciting!!!

Congratulations!

Looking forward to hearing all about your plans and seeing lots of pics! We love lots of pics!

YAY...you started a PJ...I can't wait to hear more since we are practically having twin weddings! ;)

Wow. Planning a wedding is a ton of work! I was thinking that we were going to get away with only having 50ish people, well, I was super wrong about that…more like 75, which is doable of course, I haven’t really relayed that info to Mark (FH, DG) yet…I’m sure he’ll be fine… Since we’re now so many more, I can’t have a desert party , there aren’t any spaces available on that night. Oh well. I also can’t have the reception at the Attic like I’d originally planned, but I’ll live…We’ve decided to have our lunch reception at The Living Seas Salon. I’m so in love with this idea because I thought it would be really special for our guests to be able to be in a theme park for our wedding!!! Then, I so can’t believe that I forgot about this…Thursday night (night of our wedding-which is in the morning…) is cast member night at Pleasure Island and it is SO MUCH FUN! When Mark and I worked there, we would go every week! So, that’s what we’ll be doing that night, so I’m cool with the changes, everything happens for a reason and at least I’ll be able to dance the night away at Mannequins on my wedding day!!!

Dress issues…
So I live in Texas and my mother lives in New Jersey. She had a fit when I told her I was just going to go to David’s Bridal and buy a dress…so…now she’s coming here, on September 5th. She decided to call me at 7am this morning to tell me this, let’s just assume that she forgot the time difference between here and nj…I am NOT awake that early…I need my beauty sleep, I’m going to be a BRIDE soon.

Ok, I’ll update more later, I’m still on a search for the perfect invitations (Mark says that MUST have M+M on them, and since he’s not restricting me at all on my planning, I’m giving in…), favors and program ideas…See ya real soon!!!

Congrats on deciding on the Living Seas!! Great choice ;)

I'm also a living-in-Texas-with-mom-in-NJ bride. It's cool that she's coming out here to shop for a dress, despite the early hour of her announcement phone call! I bought mine back in NJ, which was fine except that it made the alterations a little more stressful. When I flew back for my final fitting a couple weeks ago, everything was a bit rushed. But it all worked out... Hope your dress shopping goes well! September 5th isn't too far off...

And good luck on your invitations search!! That was one of the most time-consuming things for me. Hopefully, you'll stumble upon the perfect ones very quickly!

Hi
I am Lindsay, Caryn's sister. I sent her to this website so she should be thanking me every day:rolleyes1 . My younger sister and I went with our mother bridesmaid dress shopping today. We are probably going with Bill Levkoff style 451. (I can't figure out how to post it right now) In black and whatever color sash Caryn picks.

ok, so it's been too long since i've posted on here...my mom is coming to tx this week to shop for dresses. i pre-shopped a few days ago and wasn't so thrilled...i think i'm missing the bride gene...is anyone else feeling that way? i think i found a dress online though, at davids bridal of all places. i just can't see spending thousands of dollars on something i'm going to wear once...i do however see spending that much on shoes and there are a pair of manolo's at neimans that i'm eyeing...and i need a strand of pearls...i'm also considering silk flowers, again, i can't see spending tons of money on something that will die an hour after my ceremony...and i think it would be nice to save my bouquet, maybe my kid will want to use it or something...now i sound like my mother, so it's time to go.

it's possible that i might be losing my mind...

my mother is coming tomorrow to help me get my dress...the goal is to have said dress by thurs at the latest...i also still do not have invitations, favors, shoes-oh, and we still haven't signed the contract and sent in the deposit. we still haven't decided who is paying for what. i haven't sent anything in to randy yet, i haven't contacted carolyn allen's to deal with my dress issue...i haven't found a hair/make up person yet. i just might lose my mind. oh, and i'm in grad school and i'm also starting a new job this week. it's possible that i'm going to have a nervous break down. oh, another thing...fh and i are moving my stuff out of my condo, so that we can rent it and i'm moving to his/our house. so to recap, i basically have nothing done on the wedding front. i'm swamped with mba work. i'm starting a new job. i'm moving. nervous breakdown soon to come. stay tuned.

Ok, I am WAY overdue in making a PJ entry, so here goes…

Mom came from NJ this week for 2 days. My goal was to have the planning almost completely done by the time I put her on a plane home, and I totally accomplished that goal…

Dress- I was really worried about this becoming a big ordeal…I wasn’t falling in love with any of the pictures I saw, nor anything I saw the first time I went to try dresses on myself…I’m really tall (5’9”) and don’t feel comfortable in a lot of lace/frou-frou, I think it looks too busy on me. So anyway, we went to David’s Bridal in the Houston Galleria area on San Felipe, we got there when we opened and Kimberley helped us. I have to stop here and completely rave about Kimberley, she is 20 years old and the most professional person I have ever met. She wasn’t scared to tell me something looked bad on me, or to take my mom’s side on the veil issue (more on that later…). I just LOVED her. My DF is a DJ on XM Satellite radio (channel 81 bpm-dj mark d) and he also owns the biggest nightclub in Houston (Richs Houston-www.richshouston.com) and she knew him and all about the club, so that made it even better/easier for me! Marrying a local celebrity is a good thing sometimes…anyway, back to the dress…the David’s Bridal website is fantastic. I walked in with about 8 style #’s that I wanted to try on…DF really likes pick up skirts, so I was trying to stick with that. I fell in love with 2 of them, one of them was $1000, which is not a lot compared to what some bridal gowns cost, but I PROMISED my father that I would stay under that since it’s totally possible…the gown was gorgeous and was designed by Oleg Cassini who personally designed my mother’s bridal gown back in the 70’s. I thought that was so special, but the top didn’t look so great on me. I’m not well endowed in the chest area and can use all the help I can get there…so, I tried on another dress in white, but I REALLY didn’t want to wear white, I’m Italian and have a very dark complexion, so stark white looks HORRIBLE on me…they had that same dress in light gold and it was being discontinued, they only had 1 left in the store and it was in my size and fit perfectly (or so I thought at the time…)!!! It was $400 (score one for you dad) and by the time we bought the veil, bra, slip and shawl the grand total was $806!!! I was really proud of myself, usually I spend waaaay too much on clothes etc…

The day after I bought the dress, my FMIL came over to have dinner with my mom, so I decided to try the dress on and show her and boy I am SO glad that I did…the dress was slightly tight when I tried it on in the morning when I hadn’t eaten anything yet…well, after a whole day of 2+meals…my mom could barely get it fastened…the wedding diet has begun. 10 pounds by 1/24/08..i can do it. I know I can…

On to the…

Veil issue- now, I know a lot of brides won’t agree with me on this one, but I can’t stand veils. The whole premise behind a veil is a bit odd, back in the old days, women who had arranged marriages wore veils on their wedding day so that their husbands couldn’t back out if they were ugly! PLEASE! How horrifying is that?!? So needless to say, for my whole life I’ve despised the idea of a veil. Now, how do we break this to the Italian mother/grandmother? One of my cousins is getting married in April and felt the same way about a veil and her grandmother CRIED over the issue and she finally broke down and bought one. Not wanting to deal with tears on either end, I found one that actual looks quite fetching, it’s gold lace with bead detail. I’m going to wear it for my ceremony and take it off immediately afterwards…DF wasn’t happy about the veil, but when I told him it wouldn’t be covering my face he was ok with it. It will be on for a total of 30 minutes.

Other planning news:

My sisters are going to wear Truffle colored gowns from David’s. I want them to wear long gowns, which sister/maid #2 (Megan) isn’t too thrilled about. Sister/maid #1 is going to get a pick up skirt, which I adore!!! I bought them Cinderella magic wands from the Disney store to carry instead of bouquets…and I told my father that he was under no uncertain terms to even hint about the purpose of said wands, well, he walked around the house skipping and dancing and singing ‘bibbity bobbity boo.’ Thanks dad. So now sister/maid #1 (Lindsay) won’t do it. So I’m just going to have them carry the wands around when they wear their “team bride” gear. I still don’t know what I’m going to do with bouquets for those girls yet…more to come on that.

We fed-exed off the agreement to Joe (wedding planner-total doll. I love him). So at least that’s done.

I have a steaming appointment scheduled with Carolyn Allen’s for the day before the wedding at noon. I think I’m going to ship them my dress and have them deliver it for me. It only costs $15 for them to store it, plus the cost of shipping, which should be cheaper/easier than trying to transport it myself…

I’ve been playing phone tag with Randy for the last 4 days, I’ll be calling him back shortly to discuss picture package options. I need something in between the 3 and 7 hour packages…

We ordered invitations and part of the favors for the welcome bags…

All in all mom and I got a lot done…

There’s just one more thing (there’s ALWAYS one more thing w/me…)
So last night, the future in laws came over to our home for dinner with my mom…FFIL breaks the news that he wants to host a rehearsal dinner for EVERYONE who is coming from out of town. It’s a DESTINATION WEDDING. EVERYONE IS FROM OUT OF TOWN!!! Now, back up a little bit…this wedding has to be as low key as possible, we DO NOT want a big wedding/ordeal at all…so when the idea of basically having another reception creeped up, I almost went into convulsions. DF didn’t even know what a rehearsal dinner was so he didn’t know why I was getting so upset when his father was proposing this idea…so DF and I decided that we’re just not going to have one at all. Our wedding is at 10am, we want our guests rested for our big day, not recovering from the rehearsal dinner. We have to break that news today…I think I’ll let him do it.

One more thing (see, I told you…)

I was raised catholic as was my DF…we are in no way religious at all. FMIL converted to Judaism a few years ago and is very active in her temple. She asked her Rabbi (before asking us mind you) if he would marry us in Disney in a non-denominational service. I’ll cut out all the drama that ensued upon me telling my parents that news-needless to say it’s taking a while to get used to the idea. DF is totally into it because Rabbi Jimmy is a very nice man who is very welcoming of “gentiles.” He hasn’t asked me for a thing in this wedding, so I said yes. More to come on that. I might have to start a new blog for that issue…

Thanks for reading! More to come soon! I still need flower ideas, to finish favors, hair/make up people, shoes, deciding where to stay!!!

We did a "welcome dinner" not a rehearsal dinner. Like a lot of brides on here, we had it at O'Hana's and it was very informal and fun. Perhaps this is something you could compromise with the FIL on.

Also, have you considered the rosewands for your bridesmaids? They would be less childish then a toy wand but still give you the same sort of effect. They turn out beautifully and your bridemaids might have less objections to them. They also cost around $25 each so they are fairly inexpensive. Here's how mine looked:

those rose wands are a fabulous idea! thanks! i think my sister/maid #1 said something about them! did disney floral do them for you?

these are the shoes i'm going to wear...they're boring, but they're flat, DF is only 2 inches taller than me!!! i'm going to put clip on earrings on the fronts to make them a bit more exciting!
