I saw in a fairly recent Navigator that Shutters will download your digital photos to a CD to free up room on your memory card. Has anyone done this? What does it cost? It might be a better solution than bringing a laptop just to download photos from our camera memory card......

Didn't pay attention to the cost, but every time I was in Shutters I heard someone requesting this. So, yes, they do it now.

From the linked thread, it looks like the CDs are $14.95 each and only hold about 1 GB. So, it looks like it might be cheaper just to buy extra memory cards. I somehow missed that thread, and it had exactly the info I needed. Thanks for the help!

CD's can hold only 640-700 MB - which is 300MG short of the 1GB. If you have a 1gb to dump onto CD it will take 2 cd (ie $30 if prices have not changed).

Also, BEWARE - only picture files are downloaded. If your camera takes movies they will NOT be moved to the CD.

I agree, it would probably be cheaper to just buy more cards. I plan on bringing (2) 2GB cards.

We also are planning on taking two 2GB cards - I am wondering if that is sufficient for most....? We aren't photo freaks but don't want to be caught short.

Well, i am a photo freak, but i still figure this would give me over 1200 pics..... Which i think even for a photo freak is sufficient.. LOL I try to go for more QUALITY photos, rather than quantity. ;)

I do it every time, in the MED it was $15.

Okay, I'm technology-challenged .... how do you download the pics onto an Ipod?
belkin makes a transfer hub (about 3x5x1) that connects to the ipod (i have a 20gb U2-SE) and you slide your data card into the hub and from the menu prompts choose "photo import"
i had about 700 photos on there and there was room for many, many more...:thumbsup2
