If you book the cruise on your Disney Visa...

How much shipboard credit do you earn? Does it depend on cabin category? Or is it a flat amount?

DU can't tell me since they arent' affiliated with Disney Visa.

The shipboard credit depends on the offer they have at the time
In the past the offer has been $50 for a 7 day if you pay both the deposit and the balance with the visa
DOn't know if that is happening now. You can check on their website or call the credit card company

It is $50.00 as when I booked my DCL trip in April 2007, I was told that if I payed for the whole trip amount on my Disney Visa( that's when I would get the ship board credit, for $50.00). And my DCL trip is not until Nov.2008

We paid for our deposit and our balance with the Disney Visa, and we got a $50 onboard credit. When you book, I think you need to mention the code to make sure you get the OBC. I think its still DCC.

If you book your trip through AAA the discount is between $ 100.00 & $ 150.00 in shipboard credit.

You can still book through a TA and get the credit from the Visa as long as you pay the TA with the Visa

Well DU told me I could get the VISA credit, but when I was on board they said I couldn't get it because I was a "group". So, I got the DU $50 but didn't get the expected $50 from Disney VISA. Kinda made me mad.

I didn't know there was a "gotcha" either ! I still actually don't understand why I didn't get it. We just got off the boat Sunday. The guest service people called the Disney Visa people and got it all worked out. So, I just sorta figured they were right, although I still don't understand. I paid the whole thing from the get go with my Disney Visa.

We're paying the whole thing with Disney Visa thru AAA. AAA gives you OBC and the dollar amount depends what category cabin you booked. Because we are using the DV, DV is giving us $50 per stateroom (we booked 2 rooms). I made sure my TA at AAA talked to the cruise line about it and it's supposed to be all worked out to: $50 OBC from AAA and $50 OBC from DV for EACH stateroom

Disney cruise doesn't allow the combination of discounts / onboard credits
If you are booked through a TA, AAA or otherwise and they have "group rates" you cannot get the $50 OBC for the Disney Visa. The only time they allow the combination of the onboard credit / discount is if you rebook onboard for a future cruise but still can't add the DVisa onboard credit. It is their standard 10% discount plus the $100 or $200 onboard credit depending on the length of the cruise

We didn't pay a "group" rate....(unless AAA is considered a group) I made sure I was straightened out with all my OBC... I sat at my AAA gal's desk with her on the phone w/ DCL... I was assured my $50 from DV was there and AAA's "gift" of $50. AAA does a LOT of promo and work for/with Disney, I don't see why they wouldn't work "together". But, next "payment" at AAA, I will discuss it with her to make sure we have both OBCs.

The DU people told me I would get it and what the previous poster says is totally true, I didn't. They may just not understand what the rules are with the Disney Visa. I had a guest service guy on the boat phone and talk at length with the Visa people and he got the exact answer about the "group rates". Kinda odd that Disney Visa would advertise these things so extensively when in reality unless you book yourself with no other incentives you don't get the onboard credit.

DU had a block of rooms, which is why we got a better rate and better room, so I really can't complain about them, other than I wished they had informed me about the Visa thing so that I wasn't expecting it on board and didn't have to go through all that at the Guest Service desk.

Well, maybe they have commercials and such about the credit in your area. But the only way I knew atbout the Disney Visa OBC was through this site. I had to get on Disney Visa's website to verify. And it does give a warning about combining with other discounts and credits. Since a TA credit is more like a friend calling and giving you a gift of a credit, it really is not considered by DCL as a discount.

A group rate is established when you are reserving a number of cabins at once. I believe for DCL it is 8 or more. You will know that you are receiving it!

The TA should know if they are quoting you a group rate and that the Disney Visa is not combinable.
