Ok, here I go finally! For those of you that don't know, the cruise involves myself (a single mommy) and my dd7 (Maddie) on the Wonder for a 4 day cruise this past August....exactly one month ago today actually. This is our third cruise. The first was in 2004 with my parents, and last year was our 1st WONDERful Mommy/Maddie cruise. This is the cruise that we booked while still onboard last year and have been waiting patiently (or maybe not) to arrive since the day we left the ship almost one year ago. :yay:

TODAY IS THE DAY!!!! We waited all year and it's finally here. We were so excited that we could hardly get to sleep the night before. We were jumping off the walls until after 11pm so it was a VERY good thing that our flight this year was not until 11am and not 6am (God help us) as it has always been in the past. Of course the only thing this meant to Maddie who could care less about a silly thing like sleep is that we are in Orlando for less time....but once there she certainly didn't complain about not already being exhausted! :woohoo:

We flew into Atlanta (if you read my TR last year you can pick yourself up off the floor in now knowing that we did go back to that city - although - NEVER AGAIN!) and then to Orlando where we would stay at our home in Orlando, the Hyatt at MCO. :thumbsup2

When we planned this cruise we decided to do things differently so we were not comparing our cruise to last year. Our trip last year was amazing and I know things don't ever go as planned or rarely the same so this year the only thing that remained the same was the ship (down to the room we were in - OUR ROOM - 6092), our staying at the Hyatt, and our attitude which is no matter what happens, WE would have a great time and not discuss when we had to go home. :wizard:

When we woke up Saturday morning it was incredible at the lack of sleep we had and the amount of excitement that were spilling over with. Our cat, who HATES all things travel if it means we are leaving him home, had been stretched out on our suitcases for days. This morning, he thought we had lost our minds....Maddie at 7 1/2 and myself (slightly older than 7 1/2) were literally jumping up and down. The only thing that would stop me for a moment was the gripping fear of the airport after all of our luggage was lost. But then I would think of the ship, the wonder, the excitement, the absolute bliss, peace, magic and pixie dust and I was fine and ready to go, luggage or not!

Our friend (THANK YOU GJM!!) picked us up for the airport, we kissed the cat and we were off! Of course, Maddie and I both were anxious about the flights....especially through Atlanta (see trip report from last year for hellish nightmare of grounded flights and lost luggage) but getting out of Myrtle Beach was no problem at all once we finally consented to hand over the luggage. :scared1:

We FINALLY arrived in MCO around 4:30. Maddie was such a trooper. I still say that I would travel to the moon with her as she is so great at keeping up with me and keeping her spirits up no matter what! (sorry....proud mom speech there:cutie: ) Once at MCO we had to go down to the Disney transfer station with ALL OF OUR RECENTLY ARRIVED LUGGAGE in tow to get an extra luggage tag. By the way....in case anyone ever needs to know, they will gladly give you more and then take the bags no problem at all. We got there and I was shocked to see the line winding through what seemed to be all of eternity. One kind gentleman in the infamous blue and kaki suit walked over to us and ask us if he could help. When I told him what I needed he so sweetly (and at this moment became my new hero!) guided us to the side of the line where he walked behind the counter, grabbed some luggage tags and said, "no need to wait in line, you have a wonderful cruise." Whooo hooo!! NOW I knew we really were in Orlando the land of Mickey and all things great. Oh yea, at that moment is when we got a bit teary and so happy of all that was to come.....it is the service and the people giving that excellent service that makes the beautiful ship what it is to us. :thumbsup2

Once we had the extra luggage tag we were off to the Hyatt. It is SO nice to have "been there done that" this time. Knowing where to go and what to do took all the stress away. We checked into the Hyatt and were escorted to our beautiful room which we LOVED! It was just as we remembered - but completely different too as the view this year was an interior one overlooking the courtyard of MCO instead of the runway. It was nice because a part of me was afraid that some aspects of the trip would not seem as magical because we did know what to expect so this was an added bonus to us.

Maddie proceeded to jump into the room and straight up onto the bed because we all know the number one rule (except for those who will flame me for this) at a hotel....YOU CAN JUMP ON THE BED! :yay: So she proceeded to watch Zac and Cody and jump for about 10 minutes until the thrill wore off and the female shopping gene kicked in. It was at that moment she remembered why she loved the Hyatt, aside from the comfy pillows and the cool pool on the roof....THE SHOPPING! "MOMMY! Can we go to the Disney Stores, Sea World, and Kennedy Space Center now??? I have MY money...can we can we can we????" Well.....what else would I say while on vacation with my dd sporting her own cash....WE WERE OFF TO THE STORES! :cool1:

Maddie looked at everything for all her friends back home and grandparents too but I had her hold off on that until the cruise and instead look for herself something. We were in a Disney Store when she found the jewelry that you make yourself....they are different colors of plastic held together by a silver clasp and then you add on your chosen charms. She was in love instantly! I had also fallen in love with a beautiful porcelain Tink! Maddie's favorite character EVER is Tink and has a section of her room devoted to her. I wanted to get this for her as a special gift from me, however although nobody else would ever notice it, this Tink had a small chip on the very back on the bottom. I ask the clerk (who soon became my NEXT hero!) if they had another one. Once he looked over the store he returned to me saying that no, they did not but that the manager had said they would take 10% off for the chip. I was not going to buy it, but Maddie had already seen it and loved it chip and all so I agreed. Then after much consideration Maddie had created her masterpiece bracelet and was also at the register with her wallet in hand (also Tink - what else!). The bracelet should have come to over $11 and Maddie knew this as she had added it up while making it. BUT....(here comes the hero part and the tears) the clerk looked at her, winked at me, and without missing a step said, "That will be $5.25 Miss." Maddie gave the wonderful Disney man her money and looked at me with questions in her eyes. The gentleman then leaned over to me and whispered, "I don't believe 10% was enough of a discount for a chip in Tink." I almost cried and Maddie knew it....I got the look of, "Oh no Mom, not now!" We walked just outside the store and Maddie told me the bracelet should have been $11.50 and she needed to tell the man inside. I then explained his kindness and THIS is when I really cried. :upsidedow She walked back into the store and gave him a hug telling him thank you. OK - that chipped Tink is now a prized possession with a wonderful story in our home.

Once we had shopped and looked all over MCO we went to eat at Chili's - which we still loved! The service is great....food good and it's NOT fast food. We then headed back to the Hyatt when we saw a gorgeous German Sheppard in one of the stores. She was one of the MCO security dogs. We walked into the store where only her owner and the store clerk were. The owner proceeded to tell us all about Heidi and how she could understand 4 languages and then showed us a few examples as well as some tricks. We even learned how to say "sit down" in Russian which Maddie is still very happy to show off at anytime. I don't know why, but even the multi talented Heidi seemed magical to us. It was just so cool and everyone so kind. The gentleman even gave Maddie a card telling everything about her in great detail with her photo on the front. Heidi's card now has a special place in Maddie's room.

Once we were back at the Hyatt we got dressed for bed and started the task of getting everything together to leave outside the room the next morning when we would BOARD THE SHIP!!!! Yippee!!!! :cheer2: We attached luggage tags, packed a small...very small day bag and we were DONE with any and all work! Poof! This was incredible to us because last year I spent what seemed like the entire night arranging travel docs and deciding what we needed in what bag and what we simply had to take with us. This year - piece of cake! It was a snap and I felt like I could make a how to DVD for packing for DCL and doing it simply. A HUGE improvement considering last year I thought I would die packing and stressing over it all. I also learned that NO MATTER what you forget (in my case this year - underwater camera...ok - so I'll hold off on my DVD making afterall) it really will not make a difference in your trip unless you allow it to.

After the work was done we each hit the comfy pillows and drifted off to sleep with sweet salt water dreams of DCL the next day..........

I PROMISE to try and get to day 1 on the ship tomorrow evening. I'm going to also try and include photos with each post and then include a link to all pics at some point as well.

Tomorrow - DAY ONE - arriving at the terminal and finding the most amazing CM EVER who began our cruise with more pixie dust than Tink herself and an amazing send off!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU - you know who you are!

:) Kelly

Pics to come in next post.

I am so jealous....I would love to take a mommy-daughter trip with my daughter! maybe i need to work one in!!!

aww yea! So happy to ready the next installment LOL. Cant wait to read more. I have to agree Maddie has grown from the pics you posted last yr. (well for me its more like a few months since I just found and read your 1st trip report LOL.

Yay! I got in on the beginning of a trippie. Can't wait to read all about your cruise. My dd will be 7.5 when we take our cruise next May. Btw, your dd is beautiful.

Now, hurry with the next installment. :thumbsup2

yay, finally! :thumbsup2 Great start, can't wait to read more! I see Maddie is still missing her front teeth! My DD's were missing forever, she is just now starting to grow one in!

.....this is the first time I've sat down all day between work, homework with Maddie and company over for dinner I'm am exhausted and heading to bed. I promise to be here tomorrow night and complete the first day (at least) on the ship. If I wrote wirte now I would pass out on the keyboard. :surfweb:

Thanks for the kind words everyone!!

dreamcometrue I don't think I will know her when her top front teeth come in. :cutie: She lost them when she was 4 years old when she fell down and knocked them loose and they then came out a few days later. They should be coming through FINALLY within the next 6 months. Good to know others have seen that space between the teeth awhile too though. ;) I'm used to it now and when she gets them in she will seem really "grown up" to me. :sad2:

oh, ouch! Well, my DD is turning 8 in October and she is just now getting her top teeth in. I mentioned about 6 months ago that I think it's cute when a kid has both front teeth missing and well, she worked on her teeth so much that they came out. They were just a tiny bit lose. I felt bad afterwards! :rotfl2: so she's had them missing for quite some time, not as long as your Maddie though ;) I'm actually a little sad that they are growing in now because she looks SO cute with them missing!

Can't wait to read party 2 of your trip report! :thumbsup2

OH! What a dolly she is!

The pics are great! Love the one of your kitty on the luggage - that's classic! And of course you and your daughter are sweet and adorable as usual!

Can't wait for more! Thanks for writing!

Reading your 2006 report is what made me want to go on a Disney cruise in the first place. Your enthusiasm is great - glad you're back. :yay:

DAY TWO - Arriving on the ship with Pixie Dust in the terminal!
SUNDAY, AUGUST 5th, 2007

We woke up bright and early (ok early but not so bright) and with our luggage already packed and ready to go all we had to do was shower and head down to MCO to grab a quick bite to eat, and set the luggage outside to await the Mickey folks to pick them up and take them to THE SHIP!! :cool1:

We were more than excited!! It only took a quick shower to have us fully awake and in complete "TODAY IS HERE - WE ARE ON OUR WAY" mode. We walked down to the lobby area of the Hyatt and checked in then sat about paying Uno for a bit until it was our turn. We were the first to arrive so we were also THE FIRST to board the beautiful (new with porthole windows) DCL bus. Maddie was so excited she was beside herself....ok, so was I. Honestly she was cracking me up also. It seems she forgot NOTHING as she kept asking me when I was going to cry. WHO ME??!! Then I said honestly, "HELLO!! When we see the ship!" We settled in and watched the video passing the time by also looking for alligator's which our driver last year swore we could see from the road. I think it was a ploy to shut us all up. ;)

We have a very special friend who works at the port that we could not wait to see (also on the Dis). We had packed her a goody bag in the form of a beach bag with coffee cup and beach towel. We knew the first thing we were doing when we checked in was going straight to the children's services desk to find her.

Once we were approaching the bridge Maddie and I did the no no and stood up to get our first glimpse of the ship. THERE SHE IS!!!! She is just sitting there waiting on US!!! Maddie began to squeal with excitement and stand at the window fogging the glass with her cheeks pressed firmly against it. WE WERE HERE!!!! :dance3:

Once at the terminal we went through security (very quickly too) and right up the stairs we flew to the first open Castaway Club Member check-in desk we saw. We checked in (a breeze again - such a painless process!) and got our cards. I made a comment to the woman that I was surprised we didn't get lanyards this year. She just smiled and handed the cards to us. Ok, top of list....buy lanyards for a million bucks onboard. Oh well. NO WORRIES - who cares WE ARE BOARDING THE SHIP! She then gave us our boarding number which was 4. Whooo hoooo!!

Of course now we see Donald Duck come out so Maddie started to make a bee line toward him then I reminded her of our friend in the terminal and the goodies we had for her. She actually ditched Donald immediately not even getting in the line. I was amazed! Off we went to the children's registration area and there she was! The other CM's must have thought we were crazy because we waited on her to become free to proceed into the line. We already know she is AMAZING and could not wait to see her!! We get up to her line and then talk for a few minutes, register Maddie for.....NOPE not the club.....THE LAB!!! She had arranged for Maddie to go to the Lab instead of the club this year. She is 7 1/2 but has done the club for 2 years and really wanted to go into the lab this year and she made it happen!! Then we gave her our goody bag for her and at the same time she pulls out a bag FILLED with things for Maddie. Oh yea....tears were welling up but I remained in control! Maddie began to beam from one ear to another and look at the items in the bag. We are talking SO very thoughtful!!! Maddie immediately proceeded to undress from her cover-up over her bathing suit and put on a new one that was in the bag...it was so pretty! A red two piece cover up with tie died Mickey's. Too cute and too much! Then a light up Mickey sucker, a Tinkerbell photo frame, a bazillion candies I think, an Ariel cookie, and a headband with princess Minnie heads on antennae that stuck up...which she wore ALL THE TIME - even on the plane ride home. She was in Heaven!! I still can't believe our friend did this and neither could Maddie....talking the entire cruise about how special she is and that "She put the magic in our cruise." She was exactly right!! :wizard:

We talk a few minutes more and I then ask her why they stopped giving lanyards to CC members. She takes one look at our KTTW cards and shakes her head asking who we saw. I direct her to the number 6 line and that is where she goes. It seems the CM that checked us in at the CC member desk, didn't place us as CC members even though it was clearly marked on our ressie and I also mentioned it and the lanyards. We had the wrong cards, and we WERE supposed to get the lanyards. YEAH!!! A million $$ saved instantly by not having to purchase those little puppies! She returns with the correct cards and lanyards in tow. Again, she saved the day!!

Maddie and I then gave big hugs and goodbyes to our friend (and even more thanks!) and went directly to the model of the ship where Daisy Duck was waiting - whooo hooo!! Somebody we didn't see last year and we get to see her before we even board. She then saw Minnie and so back in line we get to see the Queen of the ship. Maddie is now in Heaven...wearing her new cover-up, princess Minnie headband and caring her autograph book. THIS is the feeling that cannot be described. Looking around knowing that shortly you will enter those Mickey ears and all worries are left behind to be onboard the Wonder and that feeling will be with you until you cross the threshold to leave back to reality.

Before having to leave our friend and her get back to work she told us to go see another CM who she had talked to in order to get us on the ship. I couldn't figure out exactly what was going on but did as she said thinking she is sooo sneaky and deserves a BIG raise and many acknowledgements as she loves making others happy and fulfilling dreams in a remarkable way that only she can do. We proceed over to the gentleman who our friend directed us to. He then removed a rope from the clearly restricted (although we didn't know why yet) area which he was watching to make sure nobody entered that was not cleared by himself. He told us to just take a seat and tell anyone who ask that we spoke to him and then after the family of the week's name was called WE WOULD BOARD! It took a minute for this to sink in (vacation brain kicking in I guess) but when it does I begin to beam when I get to explain it to Maddie. I tell her that ONLY one family will have boarded the ship when they call us to go and that we will be on the Wonder when it is EMPTY!!!! I missed the best photo op ever at that moment as her jaw just dropped to the ground and then it was replaced with a huge toothless smile. We take a seat (right in front of the Mickey entrance) and we color a picture of Ariel. :woohoo:

We did have a slight scare when we realized the section we were seated in was for concierge guest only. You see there was a family who actually walked to the back of the rope and one by one crawled UNDER IT to sit down. Now realize there is NOTHING special about the seats - they are the same everywhere and the terminal was not crowded at all. The family sits down and we watch as a CM scurries over to ask to see their card. OH NO!! We are going to be booted too - ran straight through my mind. Can you tell I'm afraid to break the rules? The CM then looked at their KTTW card and booted them right out but not before asking who let them in there. Oh boy! The answer was priceless from both parties. The mother in the family told her that they simply crawled UNDER the ropes. :rotfl2: HELLO!! If I did get busted I wouldn't have said that I don't think. The CM then starts to shake her head and tell them in a sing song voice, "Oh, no. We don't crawl under ropes. When you see ropes here they are there for a reason. This is reserved for concierge only." Now, I'm sweating because I see her coming toward us. I tell Maddie to hide her KTTW card. She came right over to us, says hello and says it almost in slow motion it seemed....."can I see your KTTW cards please. Are you concierge." Ummmm....I don't lie, and when I try I don't do it well so I just looked at her like a deer in headlights and pointed to the gentleman who had let us in. She then ask if we had already been cleared by him when I answered HONESTLY yes! WHEW!!! I had visions of being carried out by Captain Hook and waving goodbye to the ship from port as we were banned for life at trying to sneak onboard. I really should take more risks I think! Of course, after she left Maddie and I both took a deep breath and then began to crack up laughing. :yay:

Not 15 minutes after that incident, our Ariel picture not even complete yet, the kind gentleman CM tells us they are going to announce the family of the day now and then after they board we go on next so he tells us where to stand. Now, you would have thought this was our first time out of the house. My knees were shaking. I couldn't believe that within 30-45 minutes we had arrived at the terminal, seen our dear friend, seen Maddie's eyes widen at each turn from our friend to Daisy to Minnie, and NOW we were going to be the 2nd people on the ship and we were boarding NOW!!! :goodvibes

They announced the family of the day and then POOF! The CM took Maddie's hand and led us to the ears....I was still waiting for somebody to look at our card and say "Oh no. You aren't supposed to be here - go back." But instead they scanned our cards and we were heading up the walkway to the embarking photos!! WHOOO HOOOO!!!!!!! Honestly I do not even remember having our picture taken. It is sort of a blur because I kept repeating in my head, "do not cry, do not cry, do NOT cry!" Over the gangway we walked and then the question came....."Your family name Miss" Holly cow - she called me Miss! I AM IN LOVE! Maddie pipes up and says our name while grinning and blushing madly, then the tears came while we walked through the clapping hands of CM's in the atrium. I'm holding Maddie's hands so tight I thought I would cut the blood flow and we are both just beaming. A few hugs and kisses and then we begin to say at once, "WE ARE BACK!!!!!" and a "WE ARE REALLY HERE Mommy!!" from Maddie brought even more tears. My little chant didn't work....but who cares....WE ARE ON THE SHIP!!!!

______________________________________________________________

I am going to stop here as I have tons of work to do in preparation for a meeting tomorrow. I'll be working late tonight so I wanted to get some written now in case I can't later today. :scared: If I don't then I do promise to get lots done this weekend, and likely have it finished.

I'll post some pics now also of the terminal and such.

Kay1 - Now YOU made me cry!! I can't believe that reading my TR made you want to take a DCL cruise. That just made my day. I hope your cruise is the most magical ever!!! :wizard:
