5 1/2 - 6 weeks pregnant....

Well, DH convinced me that there was no way we were going to get pregnant before my Disney trip next week. He guilted me into not waiting until the return because that is putting someones life on hold and etc, etc. Anyhow, as of this morning, it looks like I will be about 5 1/2 - 6 weeks pregnant for my trip next week. If I were going with DH it would not be a problem. But I am going with DSis and she wanted to go on this trip specifically so we could do DW before I had kids and got boring. So I don't want her to know about the pregnancy yet so I am wondering how to pull off taking care of myself on the trip without her catching on (she's 19). We are not doing MGM so RnR and ToT are out but I was wondering if the mountains, etc at 6 weeks would really be a problem.

Everyone's body is different and every pregnancy can be different. Personally I went at about 8wks and I decided not to risk it on rides that had warnings (well other than the Safari ride at AK - I did make sure to sit towards the front of the vehicle though, and it was just a little bouncy is all). It did take us several years to finally get pg so that probably swayed me to err on the side of caution as well. Because it had been so long the pregnancy wasn't really "planned" it was more like if it happens, it happens, if it doesn't, it doesn't and it was just kind of bad timing as far as our trip was concerned (not that I'm complaining, mind you!). My twin step nieces (11) were w/us on that trip so we told them because it was easier to spill the beans than try to explain away why I was not doing some of the rides. For me, I knew how I would feel if anything bad happened on our trip and I didn't want to have to live w/that. jmho, sorry it's probably not what you wanted to hear!

If you haven't already seen it here's a link to the Tips for Expectant Mothers on Allearsnet.com http://www.allearsnet.com/pl/pregnant.htm

And congrats on the pending addition to your family. I hope you have a wonderful trip no matter what you decide to do!:goodvibes

I would NOT risk going on those rides...imagine if something happened to you. Anything that has a warning on it for pregnant mothers you should NOT ride.

You can still have a great time. Just imagine yourself going back again with your children and you'll be tearing up all over the place. LOL

All pregnancies are different but I was usually just starting to get morning sickness around 6 weeks. So definitely take it easy while you're there!

Besides the rides, keep yourself hydrated. One of the biggest pregnancy complications is dehydration. Take lots of little high protein snacks, eat small meals/snacks as needed. Keep that water bottle in hand at all times and have fun.

Personally, I would not go on any rides other than Small World, Peter Pan, etc. I went when I was 5 1/2 weeks pregnant with DD and you have to keep in mind that the first trimester is a time of great fatigue. Also, morning sickness tends to start around week 6. Every pregnancy is different, but generally the first trimester is when your body is working overtime to prepare for your little one.

Just my 2 cents. I do admit I'm extra cautious.

I would probably fess up and tell your sister. I went last year when I was 6 weeks pg. It was a last minute trip and 3 days before we left I found out I was expecting. Morning sickness (or should I say "all day sickness") kicked in the day after we arrived so on top of being tired I was also sick. I'm not trying to dampen your trip by telling you about MS but it's a real thing and something you should be prepared to deal with should you get it. We still had a great time but it was definitely a different trip.

I did not ride anything with warnings...not worth the risk. I also drank tons of water which also meant I was going to the bathroom about every 30 min. So even though you are very early into the pregnancy, your body is going through change like never before so you have to listen it. Take it easy and have a wonderful time :)

I went last year around 5 weeks pregnant as well. I didn't ride anything with the pregnancy warning except the safari ride, but to be fair I probably won't have ended up riding most of them anyways. I was extremely tired and had to nap every day. I was lucky and didn't have morning (or all day sickness), but as others have said that is right around when it kicks in. One quick suggestion do not ride the teacups, I normally love them, but while pregnant they made me really really motion sick feeling.

Drink a lots of water and keep hydrated since it is still really hot in the parks.

I went when I was 15 weeks pregnant. I was pretty careful... but rode some rides. I did ride Dinosaur, the Safari ride. I did not ride splash mountain, space mountain, big thunder railroad, Mt. Everest, Kali River Rapids, and mission space. Although I have met people who rode Mission Space, Big Thunder Mountain RR and even Splash while pregnant. The baby will still be well nestled in the pelvis but it is up to you about taking a risk.

I'd probably tell sis, too... But tell her that this way you can get twice as many FastPasses for her. ;) You can divide and conquer to pick them up so she can hit all the coasters while you rest in the shade with your feet up and then you'll still have lots of time for fun stuff you can do together. (If you normally drink alcohol, remember she'll figure out from that, too, most likely.)

I was also one of the people who when pregnant didn't ride anything that was cautioned against except for the Safari.

I'm 5 weeks now.. and truthfully most rides wont hurt the baby at all, the baby is the size of a piece of rice.. and is WAY deep in the pelvis protected by bones right now... I'm not suggesting you ride EE... but most stuff should be just fine.. I did a safari ride (local VERY bumpy going over mountians) at 32 weeks pregnant with my 2nd daughter.. I was also in a horrible car accident with her... was life flighted to the hospital and everything.. it takes ALOT to hurt a baby!

Make sure you keep hydrated. Are you planning on taking a break in the afternoon? It's going to be hot, and if you aren't completely wiped out tired yet, you will be soon, at least from my experiences. It's probably about time for the sickness to start too. I hadn't planned to tell anyone about my 1st pregnancy either, but I ended up being so sick at work, I had to tell my supervisor.

Listen to your body and do what you feel like you need to do. You may be surprised at how tired you get. Take it easy, and have a great trip!

Thank God everything was fine with you and the baby when you had the accident. As far as the rides go though, it is a chance you take and God forbid you miscarry, even if it's not at all related to going on a ride, most women would blame themselves thinking they should have been more careful.

By the way, I called my OB as soon as I found out I was pg and told her I was leaving in 3 days for WDW and I was advised to avoid all attractions with restrictions. Maybe that's overly cautious but I'm not sure there is such a thing with you are pg.

there she is.. she just turned 5.. that was taken yesterday. Pretty lil thing isn't she? ;) I'm a little biased!

HelenePA - she is absolutely aborable :) I assume that is Allison but I have an Abby too :) Hope you have an happy and healthy pregnancy....

Yep that's allison... I can't wait to have a lil baby again! Look at little Abby.. I've had baby fever BAD lately if I wasn't pregnant already that pic might send me over the top! *sigh* they are only little for such a small period of time.. Enjoy her babyness.. it goes away so quickly

I'll also be pregnant when we are at WDW in a few weeks and I plan to skip everything that is questionable (the "mountains", Tower of Terror, the safari, etc.). It is just NOT WORTH IT to me. I don't want to risk anything...quite simply, I would never ever ever forgive myself if something happened. I also plan to carry water with me at all times (I'm just going to buy one of those cute bottle holder straps on the first night, that way I can always have a bottle with me).

I know alot of people who would do rollercoasters and such when they are pregnant but we took a long time to get pregnant so even though I agree it takes a lot to hurt a baby I would have gone insane blaming myself if something happened. If you really don't want to tell your sil tell her you hurt your back this week - the doctor said all rides that warn anyone with back or heart problems would flare muscle spasms and you can't drink because of pain killers:rolleyes1 If it were me I would just come clean so that you can take naps etc. I never had morning sickness (knock wood) I was starving in the begining of my pregnancy and then had terrible food aversions which stunk I was still starving but nothing appealed to me. I think the most important thing (next to keeping hydrated)to try to help avoid morning sickness is to eat small frequent meals! Always keep some crackers, pretzels or something with you my ob had said if you eat several small meals during the day you might avoid ms. Have a blast I went when I was 4-5 months pregnant and had a great time.

Helen - Allison is GORGEOUS!

I hope to be about 4 1/2 - 5 weeks pregnant when we go in January. I went ahead & asked my doctor about it at my last appointment & she told me initially not to worry about riding anything at that stage. She did backtrack & tell me, "Well, pay attention to the signs. They'll tell you if you SHOULD ride or not. But really, don't worry."

With my last pregnancy, I was a little morning sick for a week after implantation, but nothing after. Keep little snacks around, or at least drag everyone to grab something to eat because you heard HOW GOOD such-and-such is! Just don't over-do it. ;)

I have very irregular cycyles and only have 4 or 5 periods a year. I found out I was 6 weeks pregnant right after a trip to Cedarpoint where I rode every rollercoaster there. I also had wine with dinner a couple times a week while I was pregnant before I knew I was pregnant. I had anxiety about this, so, at my first doctor's appointment, I confessed all this and they told me that is was so early that is was deep enough in the pelvis not to bother anything.

I went to Orlando on a business trip 2 months later and went into MK by myself. I rode everything except the 3 mountains. I thought about riding Splash Mountain because it isn't too bad, but then I thought sometimes at the end, there is a lot of bumping before you unload. I just couldn't do it. I knew if something happened, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself.

I would tell your sister. I would do it in a fun way.....like go into a shop and find a baby toy or something and buy it and break the news that way.
