Can someone tell me please do you get your boarding number as soon as you arrive at the port for your cruise or do you get it after you have checked in?. Many thanks

great question....hope you won't mind if I add on to this.

How early do you suggest we arrive at port to get a number 2 boarding pass?

We had #3 and we got there right when they opened.

We just went up the escalator and a CM handed us one- it was before we had checked in.

We were on the first DCL bus from the airport- it left at 9:30am and we got a number 5.

And when boarding time comes, the difference between and 2 and a 5 (for example) is only a matter of minutes!

We had #13 and got on about 20 minutes after boardiing started.

As you go through to check in as there are so many different desks, I was nearly first in Q but got 2. I think no 1 went to Cat 3 and above cruisers and people with extra needs.

I was about to post something similar! I am so glad that all you wonderful DISers have so many answers. It's our first cruise, so we are super excited! We will be having Turkey day with my IL's and driving down to FL from their place in Atlanta, hoping we make it there early enough - without being TOO early. We are a Category 4, does that make a difference when receiving Boarding Passes? What should we have handy? I really thought that with 82 days left until cruising we would have received something, but nothing yet. Any words of wisdom would be great!

On our last cruise we were some of the very first people in the door and got boarding card #2. Yes, it was pretty early to get there, but I would do it again. We really liked having our pick of places to sit, and the kids got pictures taken with Minnie, and we were able to do the sign-up stuff for the clubs. We didn't mind the wait at all. We found it fun and relaxing, and loved being some of the first people to board.

WOW - guess we won't have to sweat the little details then if they board everyone so quickly.:goodvibes

Disney really has their procedures down (is there an echo in here?). Whether embarkation or disembarkation, the process moves smoothly.

Special needs and Categories 1 - 3 are boarded first, then they proceed through the rest of the numbers. You can't all board at once or the crew would be overwhelmed, but it moves along at a fair clip. Nothing like the slow, snaking lines we've experienced with other cruise lines.

I arrived around 10:30, with my two girls in tow, and got #5. My DH came a few minutes afterwards, and got #3.

I guess they allow a certain number of people in each boarding group. He probably got an earlier boarding number because he was by himself and they could only let one more single or one couple have that number and couldn't give it to a larger group. He didn't know to tell them he was joining a group. If he had told them, they probably wouldn't have given him a number at all.

Alert Disers have noticed two CMs at the bottom (or top) of each escalator - each with a pile of cards....it seems quite likely that they might not be giving out the same number at the same time

BTW - everyone gets a card and then categories 1-3 get a number one card at check in

So we will be handed a number, then another number when we check in? (cat 2 here) Or should we just pass on the number saying we are Concierge...
