Am I the only one who got a Disney brochure?

This is a wonderful forum, but I am surprised that it appears that folks don't get the Disney brochure from a Travel Agent or from Disney before booking a trip.
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but that brochure has the floorplans of the ships, photos of the rooms, the prices, everything in one place.

I got the dvd and book from Disney before booking but have to say got WAY more advise, pictures etc from here!

But that dvd will be part of my surprize to our boys!

well, I didn't use a TA, so I've never gotten a brochure...
But that makes me wish I had one! Hmmm... might have to check into that!

Then again, a lot of people posting here as newcomers don't seem to bother to check the FAQs at the top or to search either - so it's not all that surprising to see the same questions over and over.

I just chalk it up to the excitement of having booked (or contemplating booking) a DCL cruise and wanting to know nownownow!!

I have the DCL DVD and book - but that brochure sounds like a good thing to get my hands on to pass along!!

This is the DCL page from WDWinfo and will give you links to the deck plans and answer many other questions as well.

I'm a bit of a planner so I like having as much info as possible. I didn't know about the DIS when I booked our first cruise so I had the large brochure from DCL.

I have the DCL DVD and book - but that brochure sounds like a good thing to get my hands on to pass along!!

The book is the brochure, which comes with the DVD when you order it on the DCL website.

6dd carries around the new DCL booklet from our travel agent all the time! LOL! She loves looking at things on Boatie.

It is different than the book that comes with the planning DVD.

The brochure has some great photos in it....I have several from past years....I even a few printed with the original intended sail date of March 1998 for the Magic (it didn't really sail until July of 1998)!!!

That should teach me for trying to be a Know-It-All! I guess I'll have to stop by a TA myself for one of these!

When I first booked, my TA gave me an older brochure it was all she had. Said that Disney was late in getting out the new brochure. She called me some time later and told me the new ones were in, When I picked it up she said that she was somewhat disappointed in the new format. The smaller booklet was okay for me. But I did find the ship deckplans to be very small and hard to see. Luckily, I already knew DIS and have no problems getting the information I need.

Well, lets face it, the Disney Brochure is largely a sales brochure. They put Disney's best face forward and don't necessarily tell you the things that you need to know when planning a cruise. It is true that the last few pages are full of real helpful info and legal disclaimers, but much of the rest of the brochure is just fluff and nice pictures. It is even difficult to determine exactly how much the cruise will cost from the brochure. I get a better idea from their webpage.

Like most things I rarely take one source to be the only truth. I will end up spending over $8000 for a one-week vacation, I was willing to spend a few more dollars on the Passporter and Birnbaums, not to mention the countless hours I spent here learning all that I can.

I prefer a brochure because I am a visual person. But, most everybody now what to direct you to their website. I keeping telling them not everyone can access the internet at a moments notice.

My first resource was the DCL website. That gave me an idea of price. I then came here and checked out the cruise forum where I read about the Passporter so I went and picked that up. We also ordered the planning brochure and DVD but it took so long to arrive that by the time it did the info it was giving us was redundant and often less helpful than what I found on the Dis and in the Passporter. Sure the brochure and DVD are nice because they have pretty pictures but they are not really necessary in my opinion for planning and booking a Disney cruise, they are just a little something extra and something pretty to look at from time to time.

Reason I posted the question was I see a lot of questions about prices, deck plans, how many each room sleeps, etc, that are laid out in the brochure.

Brochures are good for generic details--but not specific details. They aren't designed to be specific. They are designed to entice you to book.

Plus--my TA is out of town. I have gone to local TA's just to pick up a brochure in years past--but they almost don't want to part with it if you don't express an interest in booking with them.

And as far as room occupancy and such---the brochures have this wonderful phrase "some sleep ____, and some sleep ____"--to general to have an idea of how your specific cabin will be configured.

And the deck chairs--despite having seen several catalogues over the years---only recently on this website did I hear about those wondeful chairs on deck 4.

Brochures are nice to have---but they do not present the whole complete and specifc picture of what you wille experience on your cruise.

Okay, I can see what you are talking about. I've noticed the same.

A brochure just seems like a good place to start planning a cruise. It gives me enough factual information to tell my travel agent (or Disney if booking directly with them) that " I want to book a category 10 on deck 2 that sleeps 4 for this week".

This site is a wonder place to fine tune your knowledge.....but face it....a lot of what is posted here, and in the Passport, is personal opinion, not fact.
Although, I have to admit the heated debates over smoking, Passports, taking kids out of school for a vaction, drinking age on board, and disembarkation system (or lack of) are always fun to monitor.
