(CLOSED) The Smoking DSA's @ Resorts Info Thread

Just got back from Pop and the smoking rules there are very lax. We saw many ppl smoking on the balconies as well as the walkways. During the afternoon showers, many sat at the outside tables at the foodcourt and smoked. CM's walked by and seemed to notice nothing. We also found a DSA not noted on the map.... its down by the bus stop for Downtown Disney.

Yup I just got back from the POP last night! All they tell you at chEck in is that ALL rooms are non smoking! No mention of DSA's, nothing on the maps about DSA! I found 2 DSA's on my own...Out side the food court, and near the 80/90's pool! If i didnt read these boards, I would'nt know anything about it.

But people were smoking all over!:confused3 And people were reacting to it...I thought one lady got stung by a bee, her body was doing confulsions. I asked if she was ok...she just passed someone smoking a cigarette.

I also noticed one day they were cleaning out a room in the 70's section...with this huge powerful fan! NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE.

Also none of the DSA's I saw were covered by anything. Both in blazing sunlight & rain. And of course after it rains the seats are wet.

No mention of DSA's, nothing on the maps about DSA!

Really? Maybe you got an old map...the one I got 2 weeks ago (below) had the DSA's marked on it plain as day. It didn't have bold letters across the top saying "only smoke in certain areas," but the locations where it is permitted were on there.:confused3

Pop still allows smoking by the Foodcourt .that;'s great. That was one of my favorite soking areas. How about anywhere near the pool or on balconies . They were my favs . I know they say no to balconies but I was just wondering? I never smoked in the rooms anyway I don't at home either

Looks like they have them at the edge of every pool. Not right by the pool, but near by.

The official rule is No smoking allowed on the balconies or walkways - only at DSA's.

Have read that POP seems to be very lax about the new smoking rules - which is great for smokers, but terrible for non-smokers because now there will be no way to avoid smoke anywhere. For those with asthma this can have serious repercussions.

We will be staying at POR in 20 days:banana: :yay: Has anyone been there, and where are the DSA's and are any of them covered, or have seating? WOuld love to see some pics of the DSA's.

How and where are the smoking DSA's at AKL and CSR? I've seen the ones on the map, but are curious if there is any more then what is listed. We are staying at both on our upcoming trip. And DH without a cigarette = Incredible Hulk. And me and our son going.....:scared: Not a pretty sight....:rotfl:

This post seems like it is getting lost. Anyone stay at POR recently? I need details on where the Dsa's are and if there is seating?

Your post isn't getting lost, it's just that nobody reading this thread has pictures of the DSAs you requested. Probably, there are few pictures of any DSAs period.

There's a sticky thread at the top of this forum with all the updated resort maps, including indications of where each DSA is.

I didnt mean that my post was getting lost, I meant to say the thread is getting lost and no one is reading it.

The map at allearsnet.com has POR & POFQ smoking areas marked on it. If recollections are correct (sorry, in a huge rush this morning) -- most of them are in areas where I remember seeing benches.

Actually, haven't been to WDW since the DSAs became a big deal -- but in general, WDW is rather good about having benches in smoking areas. Not so much at Epcot though -- oddly, since early 2007, they've been REMOVING the benches from the smoking areas. Frankly, I'd rather that smoking areas be enforced and benches be available. You're not going to encourage people to use the DSAs if there isn't anywhere to sit down.

We were at AKL this past June - unless they've changed since then what you see on the map is what you get. Benches in front of hotel between entrance to lobby and exterior door going into Zawadi Marketplace (bad spot because everyone always passes by on their way to the bus stop). A stand only area outside of doors going into Boma's and Jiko's. DH's fav spot is the pool bar area - they have tables and chairs off to the side with ashtrays on the tables.

hope this helps

I've been keeping up with this thread and looking for the DSA's at Pop for my Sept. trip. Thanks for all the info, by the way!

Just wanted to mention something that I learned while trying to plan my next trip. I was looking on the Swan/Dolphin site for their DSA's and learned (confirmed by an email directly to the Swan/Dolphin), that the Dolphin still has smoking rooms. The Swan does not, but the email I received in response to my email said that they currently have no plans to remove the smoking rooms from the Dolphin. Just wanted to let anyone who might be planning their next trip offsite, that this may be the next best option.

Can any recent ASMu guests report whether or not guests are following the smoking rules. Is smoking still allowed at the outdoor pool bar there and at the other resorts with pool bars?

Hi Everyone,
we stayed at POP Aug 13, to let you know, when we recieved our map there was nothing on there about smoking pits.
but everyone was smoking in smoking pits.
A lot of them is in the sun...ugh:eek: ....I think they should have more of them....
Thought you would like to know...:)

HI Folks, I was wondering if anyone has been to BWV since this policy has taken affect? Are there any covered areas? they all seem to be out in the sun and weather by looking at the map. Has anyone noticed non-compliance at BWV? Has anyone noticed enforement? Thank you for your input.:goodvibes

I don't mean to be a dunce, but what is a smoke pit?

I know the POP map has marked DSAs, but are you saying there are also unofficial areas called "smoke pits"? If so, what are they are where are they? (Besides in the sun......)
