Hi all,
So i noticed that the haunted mansion is going to be down for what seems like a long rehab/refurb. Anyone have any info on what they will be doing, up dating if any? I was just wondering?? Someone has to know something. T.I.A.

It's a long long long overdue maintainence. The thing is a pit right now.

yea, last time we were on that ride we noticed a lot of dust and cobwebs all over the place. It was dark too, I hope they clean it up some.

That ride has been dead to us for a long time... :sad2:

;)

I also heard that at first they were also going to add some the new effects that were added at the DL version but now have backed off on that part. Is that the case?

I've heard that as well though it's up in the air. WDW doesn't spend any money it doesn't have to anymore, so I would assume it doesn't happen.

That is unfortunate if those enhancements to not come about. My DW and I really liked the different effects in the DL version when we where there in Aug of '05. When we heard the WDW version would be down while we are there next month we hoped that those changes would be made. We also hope that WDW closes Space Mt. down and redoes it like like the one at DL. That was a sweet ride!

The Haunted Mansion has lost a lot of the extra touches that once made it special. I remember in the '70s it was loud with the different incantations of 'Grim Grinning Ghosts' throughout the ride, and the lighting and sounds (especially the "schrieks" in the graveyard) were phenomenal.

Since the early '80s, however, the soundtrack is hit and miss, the music quality is poor, the lighting is half-a**** at best, and the attention-grabbing "shrieks" are long gone.

Sad, really. It was once truly an "E-Ticket Ride".

Another thread in this section mentions that they will be adding new technology to the Haunted Mansion. Not sure how reliable this source is, but it sounds like they may spend a little money after all.

I'm not sure linking to a thread right under this one, that will probably be merged with this one is really neccessary, but what ever.

Anyway, the idea that they may add something really isn't news. There's an even older thread here discussing it. However, rumors suggest that that's all been dumped or at least scaled back and there were certainly never any plans to do anything different from DL.

In either case, we shall see. It's always possible that they'll manage to find the money. I just wouldn't hold my breath.

Our family loves the Haunted Mansion and since I knew that it was going to be closed the day after we arrived (June 5th) we rode it multiple times both days. On the last night it was open we decided to try and ride it one more time. There were only a few people there and we ended up being the last group to ride it before closing. We talked to a couple of the cast members about the changes and they said that it wasn't going to be significantly different. They were going to be adding some "enhancements". Not exactly sure what that means. I do believe that the old place is in need of some TLC as we got stuck for a minute or two in our doom buggy during one ride. I guess this could have been a loading or unloading issue. All the same, I hope they keep the ride true to its original theme. No Jack Sparrows please.

Im sure you've seen the behind the scenes where they have the sounds riding on a mainframe machine the size of ENIAC. The old sound carts could probably all be consolidated on a 1 gig solid state flash drive. I'd hate to be the network admin responsible for that monstrosity.

At DL, the Haunted Mansion is redone during the Xmas season w/ a Nghtmare before Xmas theme. It is great. Same ride but w/ touches of Jack Skellington everywhere. I had heard rumors before that they were going to do the setup at WDW a couple years ago, but I don't think it ever came to pass. HM is one of my favorites and will continue to be. There are all kinds of hidden things inside and outside of the ride. There used to be a thread talking about all the hidden items in the ride. Last time I was there, I found the brides wedding band buried in the pavement as you exist and also Toad's headstone up the hill on the left in the graveyard as you exit. Also love the way that Madame Leota's eyes move on her headstone on the left as you enter the building. Must have some major work to do on the ride to have it closed down for such a lond period of time. Hopefully it will be greatly enhanced when it reopens.

The last time we rode in in 2004, one of the speakers was cutting in and out. I think it's time they refurbished the ride with new doom buggies, as well as the enhancements.

The machine in question is a DACs and rest assured there is no way that whole machine is responsible for Haunted Mansion. That machine can run a multitude of different things within the park.

I have been in that room and the CM's plugged in to the same sound effects from HM. Must be that is the easiest or most fun sound to plug into. The same machines are used for telecommunications where you can plug into peoples phone convo's like back in the day when little old ladies plugged in lines and would eaves drop. There are new digital DACs out there now however that you don't "plug" into the way they do on the show so perhaps there is something to "updating" the equipment but the new ones take pretty much as much room they are just run digitally via computer.

I have gotten way OT though so back to the HM discussion.

Does anyone know if they are doing anything to the OUTSIDE of the mansion? I've heard all the rumours and such of the inside (not that I've been obssesively reading about it or anything...) but I just got back from a trip, and noticed that there's scaffolding all on the outside of the mansion.

If you look down the page you will find more info about the rehab...the rumor is they are adding enclosures for live bats in the queue area.
