Should I spend $600 more for a cabin?

Wow, that seems so expensive! I know it will be nice to have close parking, and then the boat to Magic Kingdom, and then the peacefulness of being in a campground. Not to mention a little more space- but $600? For 5 days? That's $125 a day! I have a family of five, and budgetwise my two options are POR or the cabins. My quotes for 5 days w/dining pass for Aug 24-29 (not flexible w/dates unfortunately) are 2653 for POR or 3289 for the cabins. Wow. I would like the space- my kids are 9, 8, and 4- but $600? Any opinions?

sounds like you already made up your mind. I think you will be worried about the $600 the whole time you are there. Plus, from what I understand, you really should budget extra as well for the golf cart, which would make your life easier at the campground.

I would stick with POR

We stayed at a cabin last June, and now we are spoiled! Don't get me wrong, we love CBR and AKL, but that cabin was great! You'll love the murphy bed, bunk beds and kitchen and living room! Plus that little deck with picnic table and parking right there-it was so worth it for us! It was so quiet and peaceful-you heard no one passing by. The boat ride was very peaceful and relaxing, and especially beautiful at night. I am getting ready to book our next trip and that is where we'll be staying!

See, I go back and forth. On one, the $600 would be nice- heck, that is almost 1/2 my mortgage so I definitely think hard about spending that much unless I have to. On the other hand, I pretty much grew up at FW ( I don't think I would be exaggerating to say I spend 5 months there easy growing up) so I kind of want to go back "home". I have an active son, and it would be nice to kick his butt outside in the mornings when we are getting ready instead of him tearing around the teeny tiny hotel room. I know my girls would be fine either way. My husband and I, the only benefit to US is the "right there" parking- great for loading and unloading the car, and no walk if we decide to drive to the parks. Now, is THAT worth $600? I can't make up my mind! :rotfl:

I would stick with POR! Not only is it cheaper, I just prefer the resort feel when on vacation as opposed to the "roughing it" feel =)

That's true, too. It would be fun to try something I have never tried before!! Maybe it's time for me to go search for the FAQ on that resort to fall in love with it. The only reason I came across it is because it is the only place I can get 5 people into.

Let us know what you decide...but either way, Im sure you will have a wonderful trip! :cheer2:

We missed "That Disney feeling" when we stayed at the cabins. The lack of theming and the generic pools left us wanting more. I don't think the extra cost is worth it! Just my opinion! either way YOU'RE AT DISNEYWORLD!!!:goodvibes

Well, for us, it was the whole experience so I'm not sure it would be worth it just for the parking alone. As for the Disney Theming-there were Disney prints and Disney bedding, etc., so we never felt that it was lacking in any way! What a fun decision to have, though! Have fun!:goodvibes

Our thoughts EXACTLY!! I don't think I've ever seen anyone else say they felt that way about the cabins. When we were there we didn't feel the "Disney magic" we do at other resorts. Our kids have stayed at ASMovies, Pop. POR, and CSR and FW is the only one they absolutely do not want to return to. When we are discussing resort choices I love to tease them and say "what about the cabins" and they always shout NO!

Good luck with your decision! Obviously I would choose POR. But I'm one of the few who does not believe the golf cart is a necessity at FW.

Kill the Dinning option and eat some in the Cabins . Even just Breakfest and lunch would make up the $600 different .

I was just going to say the same thing as I'mnoprince. Of course, I'm not a big advocate of the dining plan anyway, it's just not worth it for my family. We love the cabins and totally get the Disney feeling while we're there. Maybe it's the Chip & Dale Campfire Sing-along and movie every night, the hayride, or watching Wishes from the beach, daily housekeeping (definitely not roughing it). I'd take a look at the quote without dining and consider having breakfast each morning in the cabin. We've found it really convenient to even head back from the MK for an afternoon/early evening snack, a swim in the pool, relaxing walk looking at the deer and rabbits, fishing, canoeing, playing in the playground, sitting on the beach, etc. In the evenings, it's nice having that extra space if the kids go down early and you want to stay up with a glass of wine and watch TV or sit out on your private deck. The downside of Fort Wilderness is the lack of themeing at the pools. Quite honestly though, my family is happy with 4 - 5 feet of water, regardless of what shape it comes in.

We all have our personal preferences and feelings about what something is worth to us. You know your family best, but I would take a few minutes to research the cabins and maybe check out the camping forum before making up your mind completely.

Where's Linda (aka Minnie) when you need her?

Another option is.. .the family suites at AllStar Music I'm not sure of the price, but you get a QUEEN bed, frig, microwave, and toaster, 2 TVs and plenty of room for the kids.
