should i upgrade to a moderate

I'm booked 8 nights at the pop in nov. but i am considering an upgrade. considering dropping the water park option and upgrading to a moderate w/ better pools like por or csr. is it worth giving up the water park options and spending a couple of hundred more for the moderate??? kids are 3 and 7 . thanks much

good question.... i thought the water park and disney quest was a great option to kill some down time during our 8 day stay. would a moderate resort with the nice pools and slides be a good swap in your opinion.

Ooh, I don't know. I'm not a water park person...never been to one of the water parks or Disney Quest either, so I can't really help you there.
There are benefits of a moderate to a value...fridges in the rooms, slightly bigger rooms, quieter overalll...but as far as what you are specifically looking for, I'm afraid I wouldn't be of much help.

You might want to think about that water park option--- I was there several of the past few years and I remember last year especially that I wore a jacket and jeans the whole time that I was in Orlando. (And I am a very hot natured person.) I do not think that the water park would have been very much fun. The moderates do have much nicer pools with slides and stuff - especially the POR - and they don't cost extra if the weather is nice enough to use them.

Oh...I didn't notice that you were going in Nov. I would definately not make concrete plans to go to the water parks...sometimes it is just plain cold...like last year! We nearly froze our buns off! Plus, depending on what time in Nov you are going, they shut down at some point for routine maintenance...be sure to check on that. Plus, the mod pools are heated, I believe? I know the one at CBR is...

I would say go for the moderate and drop the water park option. If you are going in the warmer months, I would do the water parks, but it is iffy in November.

If you stay at the Port Orleans complex you have both of the main pools, plus all of the quiet pools. Plus, there is the water slide at the POFQ. There is so much to do at PO during down time, plus DTD is a boat ride away. You also have the ability to rent your own boats, fish, etc. Might be more relaxing to be at the resort for your time away from the parks, than at another park (even if it is a water park). Just my 2 cents.

I also think that if you were going in the warmer months I would keep the water park option but in November I would switch to a moderate. I would even consider staying at Pop and still drop the water park option using the money for eating or souvineers. I like the values though and for little ones they are great.

I'd drop the water park option just based on the fact that Typhoon Lagoon is closed all of Nov for refurbishments. So your only choice would be Blizzard Beach. I'd upgrade to a mod, and then if its warmer enough and you could go to Blizzad Beach it would only cost $40ish.

I'd go for the bigger room and a fridge. I think it will feel more like a vacation. Consider having snacks and groceries delivered..it was nice to have bottled water and breakfast snacks as well as fruit in the room (apples and bananas were $1.00 a piece in the food court). let me know if you need more info. we just got back from a stay in Sports and with 2 young ones, the room got to be too small for our 8 nights. For fun on a down day, consider renting a Boston Whaler for a trip around Bay Lake. We rented ours at the Contemporary. It was around $36.00 for half an hour. Have fun!

I think I would drop the WP option and stay at Pop and rent a fridge. I personally like the pools at Pop very much and so do my kids. The atmosphere there is just pure fun! It's very Disney to me. We stayed at CBR earlier this month and while it is beautiful and quiet, it didn't wow me. I think we have decided that for us we will either stay at Pop and enjoy saving the money or stay at a monorail resort/ AKL and enjoy the feeling of luxury.

Just wanted to let you know my three year old loved Pop. There is a Goofy's pop jet play area that he loved, and the baby pool is a zero entry with little fountains in it. It also has that soft cushy stuff all around it.

Also wanted to let you know that we went to WDW in November 2005 and swam everyday!

Ok, for my answer, it depends. If you haven't ever stayed in onsite, then start with a value. Then, if next time you go, you find that you want a little less in-your-face theming and have the money, go mods. If this may be your only trip, go mods. It can all be a bit overwhelming for me, so a nice subtle theme is great!
I would go moderate at POFQ drop water parks option and pay out of pocket if we decided we wanted to go.

Can you apply a discount code for your trip for a moderate? If so, switch the difference at that point would be fairly small? I would also dump the water park, while we love Blizzard Beach it all depends on the weather... If you get great weather you might want to consider it for a day and just pay for the ticket... probably will be yelling at all of us then for dropping the water park option but it's so iffy... especially as you get later into November. The water temperature maybe nice... it's the getting out of the water that you don't enjoy.

Switch to POR, there is such a nice feel to the resort after the frenetic pace of the parks. There really is so much to do at PO. Boat ride between POR and POFQ. The larger pools are very different at those resorts, well worth the trip with kids. Renting bikes, watercraft, multilpe quiet pools. Nightime entertainment in main building. Fishing for your older child, my son did this and had a good time. The larger rooms, trundle bed in AB section, and fridge in rooms are all so worth it. You can walk between the resorts along a really pretty river, it just is so nice there.

We have visited POP, and have stayed at all the All Star resorts, but for the length of time you will be there I would recommend a quieter resort. Hoping for nice weather in Nov too....

As far as DisneyQuest, I think most of it is geared a little bit towards older kids. We went this past year because we got the free upgrade, and my kids enjoyed the area that seemed to be more age appropriate, but I would not have paid for it. Just something to think about.

CSR is a great mod with a great pool and slide. Your 7 year old will love it. The kiddie pool is also right by the slide exit into the pool as is a life guard station. You could also p[lay with your 3 year old in that end will your older child uses the slide. The water is shallow at that end. You could save the water park money and hang out by the pool. There is an arcade, sandy volleyball court and play ground there. Check out buzz's site for great pics!
