Complimentary upgrade at GF?

My wife and I stayed at the GF in Dec of '05 during a slow time. We were offered a complimentary upgrade from Garden View to Sugar Loaf Concierge without even asking for it. I have reserved a GV room at the GF for 9/7-9/10 which I hope will also be a slow time. I am anxious to know if we will get another upgrade "on the house". Any insider tips on how to get this at check in? Should I just be bold and ask for one?

If so, what would you ask for?

My thing is. Book what you really want and don't expect to get anything for free.

I wanted a Garden View room at the GF and that is what I expect to get.

My thing is if WDW hotel management wants to reward those of us who are repeat visitors with complimentary upgrades when hotel capacity is low, I want to let them know that I would appreciate being considered.

BTW, I don't think "free" is in the WDW dictionary.

I think you just got really lucky. :wizard: I also always book what I want - usually it's concierge. I have been to WDW a bajillion times during my life - I mean several times a year and for weeks at a time - and always stayed deluxe and more often than not paid rack rate & have NEVER been upgraded. Don't get your hopes up. WDW does not reward repeat guests. You just received some Disney magic on your last GF stay.

I wouldn't count on SL anyway as it will be closing in Sept/Oct for rehab. Upgrades to RPC are far more rare.

Happy travels,

Lives4Disney :)

Hi, You could say that you booked a GV and HOW much $$ would it cost to UPGRADE to a Water View and/or Concierge?? Then you could decide if it was worth it or MAYBE a little PIXIE DUST will come your way!! Good Luck! Joan

Both times we have stayed there we have been upgraded from gv to lv (last time was spring break '05) without asking. I just act courteous and say thank you, and grin from ear to ear of course!

Most upgrades are decided "before" you check in, not during. If you ask be ready to pay for the upgrade, unless you make sure it is complimentary.

Most complimentary (free) upgrades are not asked for but are given to benefit the resort.

Resorts upgrade to help overcrowding of room categories etc. Very seldom is it done to reward a guest. Many repeat guests have never gotten an upgrade.

Considering tha the Grand Floridian has rooms out of service due to rehab I don't imagine that when you are going will be slow for them.

I agree with Lives4Disney -- unlike many other deluxe hotels we've stayed at that keep track of frequent visitors and treat them like royalty, Disney takes its regular visitors for granted. We've never received a complimentary upgrade once in more stays than we can count!

We were even told by a highly placed WDW executive once that we should never expect a discount postcard. Why -- because we come all the time anyway, so no need to give us a discount. Granted, the exec was fairly tipsy at the time, but we think he spoke the truth!

Back in May 2000 when my family and I were checking in at the Contemporary we had room reserved on the Atrium Club floor, which at the time had limited service. However we were told that we were upgraded for free to a room on the Tower Club which was full service. Ever since then we have had so many stays on the Atrium Club and have never been upgraded to the Tower Club, however just because it happened one time, we don't expect it to happen every time. So my advice is if you want Sugar Loaf then try to change you're reservation and pay for a room in that building.
