Does anyone know if Shades of Green offers the refillable mugs?

Should we request specific rooms or rooms in one particular are of the hotel?

We were there a few years ago and they did not have the refillable mugs...

As for which area to stay in, it depends on your preferences. My family prefers the new section on the 4th or 5th floor....these rooms are quiet and look out over the golf course. My brother's family prefers the old section on the ground floor for easy access to the pool. Whichever section you choose, you can't go wrong!

We're just back from a July/August trip. We saw no refillable mugs at SOG. We stayed in the new section which worked well for us. We had a rental car so our location was convenient to the parking structure.

Would it be possible to see the MK fireworks from those rooms? I thought I'd read that on another thread about SOG . . . We've always stayed in the old section near the pool but were thinking of trying the new section this time. Thanks for your help!! :)

I couldn't find a resort map online anywhere, but SOG is pretty spread out. Depending on where your room is located, it can be quite a walk from your room to your car, restaurant, bus stop or pool. Based on your family's needs (small children, older members), you may want to call ahead and ask for a room location that meets your needs.

As for the fireworks, I believe you can see them from some rooms on the fourth or fifth floor facing MK (again a resort map would help point out which rooms). There may be some trees that block part of the view.

We could see the fireworks from our balcony at SOG....but because of how it is spread out and structured...from most rooms you would not. We could also see it from the pool. Please keep in mind that it really is not very close up....still pretty far away.

Thank you for all of the helpful info. Just two more questions - is there a difference between the rooms in the old and new section?

And is the hotel wi-fi enabled?

You can see the fireworks from the Magnolia Pool side of the old section and from the roof of the parking garage. We have done both. I am not sure about the new wing as we prefer the old and try to get poolside rooms. The main differences besides age between the two rooms are that the the old section has a dividing partial wall between the table and sleeping area making it like a semi private sitting area. Also I think the old section has four chairs sitting around the table and the new only two, but I am not sure about that.

There is really little difference between the rooms. Having said that we have stayed in both sections and found the old section rooms to be a little less sound proof. However if you compare the room to All Stars or Disney Moderate hotels they are much better sound proof. We just noticed staying in the new section that it was overall quieter.

And is the hotel wi-fi enabled?

There are wi-fi spots, like in the lobby and maybe by the pools. The cost is $6.95/day. They also have cables in the room for hi-speed internet connections for the same price structure. However, we discovered that the "day" only goes until the next noon. So if you sign up just after noon on one day, you get almost 24 hours for that price. If you sign up at 9am, you only get 3 hours for the same $6.95

We used the cabled hi-speed internet so we could use it in the room. It is automatically added to your room charges when you get online. I'm not sure how the wi-fi is done as far as the charges go.

Thanks again for all of the info!

Just thought of a couple more questions. I found a couple of websites with recommended transportation routes and approximate times between the resorts and parks. However, none of them list Shades of Green. Does anyone have a list for Shades of Green or should I just use the list for Polynesian? We're renting a car and trying to reduce driving/ wait times.

We pretty much always hoofed it to the Poly and used the Disney transportation. (Considering all the walking you do in the parks, it's not that much more.) They also have the Shady Shuttle (golf cart?) you can catch over to the Poly if you don't want to walk.

Just my 2 cents! :)

Thank you! One final question, I promise. How much do you tip housekeeping? Does the general rule for disney resorts apply to SOG?

I tip at SoG just like I would any other resort. It depends on how many people I have in the room and how big a mess I leave, usually between $4 to $7.

We were just there at the beginning of August and I noticed that there had been a few changes in the SOG bus schedule since we were there in 2006. Here is the schedule from just a few weeks ago:

EMH mornings - main parks bus leaves at 7:30am and 7:45am, water parks - bus leaves at 7:30am.

WDW TTC (ticket/trans center) - Every 20 minutes starting at 8:30am. From the TTC back to SOG about every 20 minutes until 1.5 hours after MK and EPCOT close. The bus stop is marked for SOG at the TTC

AK/BB - Once per hour on the half hour starting at 8:30am. From the parks back to SOG - departs AK at 10 minutes before every hour starting at 8:50 and departs BB on every hour starting at 9am. AK bus stop is #7 (exit park and go left of the tram, located behind the handicap parking area). BB bus stop is #1.

MGM - Once per hour on the half hour starting at 8:30am. From the park back to SOG departs MGM every hour on the hour starting at 9am. Bus stop #6 (exit MGM go to parking lot, then left)

TL/DTD - once per hour on the half hour starting at 8:30am. From the park back to SOG departs TL 10 minutes before each hour starting at 8:50am. Departs DTD every hour on the hour starting at 9am. Last DTD bus is at about 1am. Bus stop at TL is #9, Bus stop at DTD is in the circle at Fulton's.

I know some of these were the same as the last post, but it was easier to just post the whole thing instead of trying to figure out what was different!

It also says the last bus for each location is approx. 1 hour after that park closes (unless otherwise specified)

It is good to see that the bus runs to DTD all day long. We used to drive to DTD because no buses went there during the day.
