place card holders - you had them? you didn't? am I just throwing away another $40 or so? will the guests even realize they are for them? will it look tacky if we just have them set up on a table when you enter the reception welcome area?

I know, I'm driving myself nuts over all the little details but I can't help myself! :confused3 it's a small reception - 45 people or so and half of them will have been at the Inn for the actual wedding bash of 3 days...I also have favor bags for each guest at the reception with a chrome heart letter opener and personalized hot cocoa packets.

so do I save my $$$ and spend it elsewhere????

Michelle I had chocolate place cards that went with what table they sat at. We didnt assign seats, just tables. But honestly that was even confusing. I wish we would have just let people sit where they wanted to.

We just had normal place cards laid out on a table alphabetically for our guests to pick up when they arrived at the reception. We didn't have any holders but decorated the table with items that worked in the Living Seas (fish, sand, etc.). I don't think holders are necessary at all if you are not wanting them - put the money towards something you really want. I couldn't find a picture of our place card table but this picture shows you what the cards looked like:

Good luck! :thumbsup2

we also just had normal place cards. they were pretty plain, actually, just printed on off-white cardstock and folded. my cousin had those little pewter chairs as place card holders. I think my mom has all of ours in her china cabinet. I would think that people would know to take them...

I was looking at those little pewter chairs - they are really nice! I know that people will take the card, will they know to take the holder?? silly question, I know but I don't think any of the affairs I've been to have had actual holders.

still debating....

I never really understood the whole assigned seating thing...I mean is a wedding reception or a 1st grade classroom? :rotfl: I would hope that my guests are adult enough to find a seat themselves and if they don't like the person they ended up next to that they could suck up and be mature for one evening. Heck...all the more reason to drink and be merry! I would probably only desiginate seating for VIP's...ie, parents and party members. Perhaps I just don't get the whole you have to sit where I tell you thing...or perhaps I'm just a little more laid back (Lazy, haha) . :confused3

Oh...and I never answered the question...if I were to do the seating arrangement though...then yes, I probably would use some kind of cool holders that double as favors...might as well make it fun. Though your place cards are amazing on their own...

That didn't help at all, did it? :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: nope, it didn't!! :rotfl2: I think I've put it wrong though. We are not asigning actual seats, just tables so these place cards have the person or couple's name and table number.. where they sit or who they sit next to is their decision... however, the tables only hold 10 people each so I can't just leave it up to them - I'd have 17 people huddled at one table while 4 or 5 people who didn't really know anyone else would be sitting by themselves!
and thanks! I LOVE our place cards :goodvibes

I did not have any place cards other that the reserved signs for our parent's tables. That way everyone could sit with who they wanted to. It makes it easier on everyone & there is not a back up people trying to find where their card is or where their table is.

We went to a wedding where this happened. The bride had a huge family, so there were some tables where guests had dragged over lots of extra chairs so they could all cram into one table. DF and I only knew the groom and one of his groomsmen, who were obviously both sitting with the bridal party. So... we ended up sitting by ourselves most of the reception. (This reception was different, too, in that there were also all different sized tables.) I think assigned tables are a nice thing to do for guests unless you're having a very small reception and everybody will fit at just a handful of tables.

To answer the original question, no, we're not using any sort of holders. Our place cards will be chocolate bars, though, instead of folded paper. I don't think it looks tacky at all to have just the paper cards arranged on a table. You can always dress it up a little with flower petals or glass beads or some other (inexpensive) decoration that would fit in with the rest of your decor.

heres a thought.....dont do them unless you come across something you LOVE & cant pass up...dont just do it cause you feel you have to

Im ALL about doing what YOU want on your wedding.....breaking the rules...doing somthing different....michelle you seem like that kinda gal:goodvibes

:goodvibes you think like I do!! I was thinking this morning that maybe just some silk petals on the table scattered amongst the cards would dress it up abit at a fraction of the cost!

:rotfl2: yup, that's me!!! actually, we are doing the wedding at the Inn exactly like we want but my MIL really wanted this post wedding luncheon and we obliged ( no undue pressure from her - seriously) she is a wonderful woman, it's her 79th birthday the day before the luncheoon and to be absolutely honest, after losing her husband and grandson (JJ's son) last year, how could we say no??

so part of me wants it to be quite lovely - for her ...in my heart, I know as long as we are happy with the plans, so is she....just my insecurities coming out, I guess....I am obsessing over all the little details and need to stop!
