WDW In Late August

Just wondering what WDW is like in late August.... Large or small crowds? Is it really too hot to enjoy??

I am a teacher in New York (home for the past few years for child-rearing) and my kids are almost school age, which means no more going at the ideal times. We love going in December and May. The weather is fantastic and the crowds are small. We are trying out October this year.

BUT that is it! After that we must go in the summer. We don't dare or really desire to go during a school vacation or holiday. The crowds are not are thing and we like to be with family for the holidays. Anyway, we are left with going in July or August after this year. We were thinking of the last two weeks of August because DVC points are less and Florida students are back to school (I think). What are your thoughts on the last two weeks of August? Okay time to go or what?? Help!!! Thanks!!!!

Crowds are the smallest of the summer; heat is intense and relentless.

We go in August often (as you can see below, and we will be there next month too) and we love it!

DH is a teacher here in Philly, so we are not able to plan to go anytime other than in the summer. We have tried, July and August and find the 3rd week of August and later to be the best crows wise. It's hot, but it's Florida, you expect it to be hot. Last year we were there the 2nd & 3rd week of August (and the same this year) and some of the big rides had long waits, but those are the one's you fastpass. You knnow it is not crowded when there is only a 20 minute wait for Indy speedway

We like to go late August also, we have been there in April, May,july and August and have found July to be hotter. The Florida kids are back to school in August and in other parts of the country so the crowds are very small. Theres also nothing like a waterpark to cool you down on one of the hot days.
Have fun:banana:

We go third week of August. Heat is brutal and crowds aren't too bad. We leave the day before Free Dining begins.

I would prefer to go in October.

We'll be there 8/15 - 8/22 because of school and our 1st grader to be. Last year we went in March before she started going to school. I really liked March because we went during my b'day.:cool1:

I hate hot and humid... I can only pray we get a bit of a break.

we go in September, but thats to late for you but it is also a great time to go and it is as well very hot and humid!!!

Hi, we are going again 22 of Aug. to a week after Labor Day( Free dining plan.) We are from Wisconsin, and it gets hot here, but it's the humidity that really gets you.

We went last yr. during the Free DD (8-18 thru 8-25) and the crowds were larger than we expected, mostly due to the DDP. My DW and I like to go after Thanksgiving and before Christmas,:santa: cooler weather and lighter crowds, bu can't pass the Free DDP.

Hi... Just curious the date the free plan starts. We do not qualify for it because of the vacation club (sad but true). So I actually want to avoid the crowds it causes. Now the trick will be to sqeeze in a trip between free dining and the lower points of August. I love disboards for this reason. I would have never thought of the free dining=crowds or a million other facts I have learned from this wonderful site.

Just a quick point---while the Free Dining promotion might add to the crowds a little bit, crowds are still quite light. That's why Free Dining is offered at that time of year!

I'm originally from SI, but now we're in NJ. DS6 doesn't start 2nd grade until 9/10 so we're going for the end of August into September.

We like August because the crowds thin out a bit during the week. It is hot so keep hydrated and buy insurance--just in case.

Free dining starts on Sunday August 26th. We are leaving WDW that day after a week at the Poly from Aug 19-26.:cloud9: Hoping for low crowds since Florida schools are back in on the 20th!:)

We love late August. You just have to take your breaks during the day to be able to deal with the heat.

Danielle, where do u live on Long Island?

Disworldnum1, where do u live on Staten Island? I lived in Grant City for 6 years.

We live in Blue Point, which is central suffolk on the South Shore. We are a little beach community just east of Sayville. We love it here! A beautiful beach, great schools, lots of nice people, and wonderful old homes.

I wouldn't worry about increased crowds for free DDP next year as there's no guarantee it will even be offered again. Also, if it is...you'll know about it well enough in advance to plan around it. :goodvibes

This is our second year going to the World in late August. It's hot, but last year, here in NJ it was hotter and more humid (humider???)!!! Go figure. Anyway, take breaks, shop or browse in the air conditioned stores, keep hydrated, and you'll be fine.

I live in Holbrook not all that far from you. I've lived in the area for most of my life.

DH & I are planning on going in August of next year. I am a teacher (substitute right now....grr...) and DH is a lawyer, while he can take time off whenever (as long as he doesn't have court that week) I can't and I have no desire to go to WDW in December or March ! I figure August is cheaper and therefore we can go for 2 weeks and not feel rushed. Although I am having a hard time waiting...hehe...I am trying to convince DH to go at the end of August this year..lol :)

I too work for the public school in my town and we always go to Disney in mid August. The crowds were lighter even with the free dining. It is hot but I love the hot weather. I'm just wondering if August crowds will change now that the Florida kids will be going back to school later than usual - they used to go back early August but now they'll be going back mid August:confused:

My bad, you know exactly where we are. I grew up in Deer Park and my husband is from Queens. Needless to say, we love it around here a lot more then where we came from!
