We are taking a two week roadtrip this fall and I was just wondering about unique souvenir ideas.....so I thought where better to ask than the creative forum ;)

I had read about a couple in a scrapbook magazine....

* Sending postcards to yourself while on vacation . On the backs writing the different things you did and saw that day so when you got home you had a reminder of some of the things you did on vacation.

* Collecting shells and putting them with some sand in a glass jar or glass bowl and using paint or the sticky letters ( like you use for scrapbooking) to put the name of the beach on the jar.

So I wondering if anyone wanted to share any creative ideas they have for unique souvenirs????? :)

Not sure how creative an idea this is but I get a key chain from every state/big city I go through and/or visit. I have a ton and right now they are on my makeup case hanging from both sides of the handles. Fun to look at from time to time and they're not too expensive and fun to look for when you're on the road.

Where are you headed to? The Northeast to see the leaves? Then you could collect leaves and put them in a flower press.

We collect refrigerater magnets from the Disney resorts we have stayed at, and DH collects the resort pins.

Postcards are cool. Or you could try to find stuff that symbolizes the state you are visiting. Like Grits and peach jam from Georgia, Orange Marmalade from Florida, a cotton plant from Alabama. Is this helping any?

Yes I already collect keychains :) They are a nice reminder of where you have been !

We are driving from Tennessee to Maine but we will be too early for the leaves :guilty: But thanks for the ideas!

Glad you can use the idea...I thought it was pretty cool when I read it and since my memory is awful it will help me alot. :)

This sounds like SO much fun! :D

One thing we do each year on the choir trips I chaperone is bring a small notebook. Each day we write the name of the place we've been (or many on seperate pages if many things that day) and pass it around our tour bus. Each kid then writes down a sentence describing or a thought about the place we just went.

It makes for some very interesting and hilarious comments! I don't know how many are in your family, but you could do it just for the fun of having stuff to add to a scrapbook for later!

Another thing we do is the "word of the day"...for example, our first day in Hawaii, the word of the day was Toilet because the restroom signs said "toilet" instead of restroom on them and the kids found that hilarious (what sheltered lives they lead).

I tend to collect pins from each place I've been-ooh and if you plan on hitting national parks, get a national park passport! It's an inexpensive little wirebound book where you can put stamps from each year (stickers) and then each place you go they have a rubber stamp to stamp your book with the date and name of the location you went. I got one as a wedding gift from my husband...and it's so much fun!

Can you tell I want to go with you?

when i travel i collect shoot glasses. the great thing about it is that they come in all different shapes and sizes

My dd collects keychains and does a smaller keychain christmas tree. It is really neat to see each year, plus the memories it brings back. The rest of the year they hang on a simple rack of dowels.
