So tell me is this a dream??? or is there really such a thing as "free "at Disney??? We are doing MGM for 1 day we will be there for 5 and over the July fourth is this helps any. Thanks for all your help!!:confused3 :cheer2: :rolleyes1

You could easily spend every afternoon just lounging around the pools! I understand that they're now showing movies some evenings at one of the pools - maybe someone who's been there more recently can give more input on that. You could take a nature walk around the grounds and look for all the little creatures that live there. You could take a boat from SSR over to DTD, OKW and POR/FQ and look around. You can go take a ride around on the monorail. Take a bus over to enjoy the atmosphere on the boardwalk one evening. Go sit on the beach at one of the monorail resorts and watch the water parade & the fireworks. DH and I spent 5 days at SSR last year and only went to Epcot one day. It was one of our most memorable vacations ever! So relaxing and enjoyable! Have a fun trip!

One of the best "free" entertainment offers to be found that I recommend is Bob Jackson, known as the piano man in the Rivers Roost Lounge at Port Orleans. I believe he entertains there Wed-Sun(call to confirm) from 8PM - Midnight. I say free, but you'll probably end up ordering a drink or two -you could go for a light dinner for that matter and combine your "free" entertainment with something to eat. This is a great time whether you go as a family or just as a couple. The person who wrote the following says it best:

Around 8, we got ready to go and headed over to the River Roost, which is Port Orleans' cocktail lounge. We were fortunate enough to be able to grab one of the last tables and settled in. We found a menu on the table listing the various signature cocktails as well as mentioned that we could order appetizers from Boatwright's. We started off with some soft drinks and an order of Nachos Supreme. Disney lounges are friendly to those that don't want to drink. They will give you no grief over ordering just a soft drink, in fact they will give you free refills on the soft drink.

Entertainment in the River Roost is provided by a comic piano player that goes by the name of Bob Jackson. His show consists of mostly pop standards, tv theme songs, campfire songs and the like. In other words it 'sall songs you have probably heard before and are familiar with. This is good because Bob's show is heavy on audience participation. There are two motto's "No one has more fun than us!", followed closely by "You will never see any of these people again" I know you might think this sounds cheesy or campy, but from what I saw everybody gets involved in the show. This is mostly because a lot of the songs have either obvious auidence parts or Bob makes up an audience part. If you are thinking you'll just sit back, wrong. I dont know how else to describe it, but Bob's enthusiasm is infectious and before you know it you too will be jumping up and down, waving your hands in the air and yelling (or singing like Edith Bunker) in your loudest voice stuff like "Have some Fun Tonight" in the cocktail lounge of a rather upscale looking hotel lobby. And if you hear a bugle call, well by the end of the evening you will instincitvely jump up and do your best Tarzan imitation.

Pay close attention to Bob's piano, becuase it is also a part of the show. This black upright piano gets so excited that when they say Bob rocks that piano, the piano literally rocks back and forth. Then you have bob himself who is a very personable entertainer who welcomes newcomers to the lounge between shows. He ask them were they are from, and gee whiz, Bob just happens to also be from whatever city they name, and a little while everybody else claims to be from whatever city the new arrivals are from. Bob takes two breaks but never leaves the lounge, instead spending his break time signing autographs and making his way around the room stopping to chat at just about every table. Oh, and for those that drink, be careful, Bob loves to haul out a song titlled Sara towards the end of the night. Its a perfectly innocent song, but its lyrics are a tounge twister when taken slow and sober, let alone when taken fast and with a few drinks. Just try keeping "Sarah, Sarah, sitting in a shoe shine shop, sarah sarah, sitting in a shoe shine shop, all day long she sits and shines, all night long she shines and sits, Sarah Sarah sitting in a shoe shine shop." straight.

All in all it was a great evening. After the show ended it was time to make our way back to the room. We got just about all packed up before going to bed, then told Stitch to take his own sweet time in waking us up tommorow. Sadly, tommorow is departure day.

We planned on watching one set, and wound up staying from 8:30 clear through last call, which at the River Roost is at midnight.

I second going to the Boardwalk & storlling along there--lots of fun entertainment right on the boardwalk. Also, I believe there is a movie night around a campfire (or maybe its a story around a campfire) at FW & perhaps even roasted marshmallows & I dont believe you have to be staying at FW to do it. Call from your room to get info! And there is always people wtaching at DTD! Enjoy! Deb

I agree with taking advantage of the amenities at SSR. We stayed at SSR last summer for 4 or 5 days for our "NON" WDW park trip. We actually went to SW for 2 of those days, but the other days we just hung out at the resort. They have a great pool with activities going on each day.

They also have an activities center with lots of things to do for the kids. We did ceramics one day for a nominal fee and dd played some games and did some coloring pages. It was a relaxing day and it rained pretty hard that day but we ran into the activities center and found those things available to do.

It's also nice to have DTD across the way. Take a boat ride over there. One thing we like to do is resort hop. We love to check out the other WDW resorts, maybe have lunch at one and hop on the monorail and resort hop at the MK resorts. We also like to go to the AKL to check out the animals. If you don't have a car you can head to DTD and switch to a resort bus there or if you "tour" the MK resorts you can take the bus to MK from your bldg area.

I know there area also a lot of July 4th fireworks going on and I think one of the events is at DTD which wouldn't cost anything. You can even watch them from SSR. HAVE FUN!!;)

We were just at SSR last week and they showed movies 2 nights. Don't remember which nights because we were never back until late 'cuz we hit the parks from open to close.

Universal Studios has 7-day/2-park tickets for around $85 each. We hit Islands of Adventure and literally spent ALL DAY there. A couple days later we went to Universal Studios. Only spent half a day there and then strolled over to Islands of Adventure for some more fun. Even though we didn't utilize the full 7 days, it would have been about $60 to get in to each park 1 time--so money-wise it was a smarter choice to get the 7-day pass. We spent 1 day at MGM (last Friday which was the last Star Wars weekend). Spent 1 day at Busch Gardens (free tickets if you're military--just have to go online to register). The rest of the time we took the ferry to Downtown Disney and shopped.

They did have lots of activities listed on their weekly schedule: ceramic painting, button making, Bingo, etc. We were just never there to take advantage of them.
