Should I let 8 yr old DD ride??

My 8 year old DD was upset in 2005 when she was not able to ride Rockin' Roller Coaster. We're going back in Sept and I KNOW she will want to ride. She was able to ride the tower of terror in 05 and went on it about 10 times in 1 day. All I can think of is how fast it takes off?? Am I being perinoid??

Well, only you can make a judgement re: your child, but if she's in good health and meets the height requirement, why not? My DS9 (at the time) went on Rockin Rollercoaster and could not get enough!!! He probably would have ridden that 10 times in 1 day if the rest of us didn't have other plans! Yes, it takes off fast but it's over pretty quick, too!

I'm going to let my DD8 go on it in Sept. I personally think TOT is worse so she should do fine on RRC. The only way I wouldn't allow it is if she was very smalll framed and I felt she couldn't be restrained properly. I am going to have my DD ride RRC last of all so if it does go well her day wont be ruined.

Has she ridden coasters at other parks? I say if she wants to ride and meets the requirements, let her ride. Everyone has to do what is in their own comfort level. I know some people are very cautious about certain rides and that is their right to choose not ride or allow their children ride. BUT, you asked for opinions, and mine is let her ride. I truly believe that when it is your time to go, it's your time whether you're sleeping, eating, walking, or riding a coaster. Some may disagree, but it is my opinion which I am entitled to. I think I will give in when we are down there. She has been on coasters before and it would just crush her if she couldn't get on.

My daughter will only be 6 and I plan on letting her ride it (she is 48 inches now, and we don't go until November). I haven't found a roller coaster that she was tall enough to ride yet that she hasn't loved. She's a real daredevil. Now, my 8 year old son, well, he may take some convincing, he's much more cautious. But we'll just leave it up to him. Good luck with your decision.

I just got back two weeks ago with DD8 and DD10. Both loved RnR. Both were really cautious people about rides up until this trip. (wouldnt' ride baby rollercoasters at county fair - really cautious, scared even) But then came this Disney trip.

We rode Big Thunder several times.

DD8 and I rode RnR first, while DD10 and DH were at Blizzard Beach for Summit Plummet.

DD8 was so thrilled she happily stood in line 45 min for a second ride. We had fast passes that we used with rest of family later that day.

Then we had 2 fast passes left.

DD's convinced us that they wanted to ride by themselves. So, we took them to the fast pass return line and dropped them off. Then waited at the end of the ride in the gift shop. They were thrilled with riding by themselves (I thought they might get scared without a parent).

In my opinion -

RnR is scary during the initial speed. If you shut your eyes as you start to go up first hill, you don't actually feel like you're going upside down. Then open eyes, and enjoy the scenery.

The ride is much smoother than Space Mtn. I like it better than Space.

It's also smoother and quieter than Big Thunder. Big Thunder has more bumpiness than RnR.

Plus, I think RnR is 90 seconds - so if you don't like it, it's over fast.

there are signs warning you about sudden drops, etc. I asked a CM about the drops, because DD8 wanted to know if drops were big. CM told me there are no drops.

Maybe that's why I like it best of the coasters. I like drops sometimes, but I like this for the fun, and you're never worrying about a big drop.

Now Everest was a huge adrenalin rush - I was scared. DD's could probably have handled it had we been there at end of the week. But we were there before they did space or RnR. So, they had only done barnstormer and big thunder. i figured they would freak out on EE, so I advised against them going.

At this point, I think they coudl handle it, but I'm not sure if they would enjoy it or if it would be too intense to be fun.

Yea, I think you're a bit too paranoid Although, as someone said.. Tower of Terror is 1,000 times worse than Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. I've seen little kids, about that age go on much worse, so it shouldn't be a problem.

DS6 loves coasters. We could barely get him on kiddie rides since he was 4. He's been on everything but RNR. DH is trying to avoid him going on it like the plague. I don't care for coasters myself, but love TOT (always very afraid of heights, especially Dumbo).

I think Space Mountain is the scariest, especially at WDW where you can't hold onto your child. DH sits behind ds and holds his head still. That's what makes me the most nervous.

Just make sure she doesn't have any hair clips or earrings in. It really jostles you. Not like SM, but different.

My 7 year old at the time LOVED it! She is a coaster junky and her middle sister was so mad that she wasn't tall enough to ride.

That will prob be the first ride we do when we go back. The both rode TOT (middle DD turned 5 that week) and it was their first ride there and our first for the week.

If your DD meets all the requirements and wants to ride R'nRC then why not let her

Yeah your being paranoid. Small frame has nothing to do with it. The harness isn't holding you in the ride the centrifugal force is holding you in. The harness is there for if the ride stops while you are upside down.

My DS 7 rode it and he is very skinny and small framed, only weighed 42 lbs and loved it! rode it about 10 times over the week.

I would let her if she wants to and is able to. I can't even remember when my DD-10 rode it first. She must have been at the most 6? She loves that stuff! We went to Kings Island in OH this past weekend and she rode a very scary coaster that DS-15 was afraid of! hehe

Like many have said the take off is not as bad as the TOT first dropped. If she meets the requirements let her go.

Our twin dd's were 6 when we went in 2005, and they LOVED it....I think we went on it about 6 times in one day! They met the height requirements, and honestly it's over so fast. I just kept telling them to look straight ahead when you take off. Can't wait for December now that I am talking about Rockin' Rollercoaster!

Every child is so different, my DD who's 8 loves Rollercoasters, BUT she hated this particular ride . It's an individual choice, good luck
