Stan Lee Signs Deal With Disney
By GARY GENTILE

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Zowie! Stan Lee, the creator of such comic-book superheroes as Spider-Man and X-Men, has signed an exclusive content deal with Walt Disney Studios, it was announced Wednesday.

Under the multiyear agreement, the studio gets first shot at films, TV shows, books and video games devised by the 84-year-old Lee and his company, POW! Entertainment.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Disney Studio Chairman Dick Cook said the deal was designed to create characters and projects that can become franchises for Disney.

Lee's characters have made hundreds of millions of dollars for other studios. Sony Pictures produced the Spider-Man series and saw "Spider-Man 3" open in early May with a record $151.1 million weekend domestically.

Twentieth Century Fox made the highly profitable X-Men films. Also in production at various studios are movies about The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man.

Sony Pictures is part of Sony Corp . Twentieth Century Fox is owned by News Corp .

Lee is no longer associated with Marvel Entertainment Inc., which produces comic books and feature films based on characters he created while employed there.

At Disney Studios, part of The Walt Disney Co., Lee will work on developing characters for action films that might also be featured in direct-to-DVD productions, video games, comic books or other formats.

"I've got millions of them," Lee said. "I have file cabinets filled with ideas for movies and television shows and all sorts of things, and I've been waiting to be associated with someone like Disney so I can start tearing into these things."

Some of the characters that Lee developed at Pow! Entertainment, such as the superhero stripper "Stripperella," featuring the voice of Pamela Anderson as "Erotica Jones," won't be made into Disney films, Lee said.

Lee said he isn't concerned that Disney's family image will hurt his projects.

"There is such a big difference between action and violence," Lee said. "I have never been a fan of violence, but I love action and so does Disney."

Great, so now Disney is not just cornering the market on bad managment, but also on the Insane.

Stan Lee is a genius. Of course, he hasn't really created anything in years

Stan Lee is a minor god. I love his work! I think having outside talent creating a new generation of heros is a good thing! we havent had a good villian since Scar. The last generation of heroes/princesses was the 90s. I think we need a new bunch, with good villains and an action story line.

dont get me wrong, i like cars and finding nemo, but i understand the whole
"finding yourself" theme, and i am ready for some good old sword fighting (or laser blasting)!

Stan Lee is 2 Churos short of a cart.

This agreement leaves me to believe that when the time is right, Disney will buy the rights to all of Stan Lee's characters in the same retrospect that Disney has the rights to the Muppet characters.

If they are planning to buy the rights to all of Stan Lee's characters I would think with the success of Spiderman and X men movies Disney had better start saving their pennies now, they won't come cheap.

Oh, Stan Lee is nuts, but most people called Disney nuts for trying to build an empire out of a cartoon! In fact, they said that Snow White would never work, because no one wanted to see a full-length cartoon movie.

genius and madness are very close!

That would be pretty impressive, since Stan Lee doesn't own the rights to any of his characters, Marvel does. All he owns is "So you wanna be a Superhero."

Who cares if Disney can't buy those characters? The last thing Disney needs is to buy already established characters. With a mind like Stan Lee on board, Disney has another one to tap for original creations. I say it is about time they got back to this.

Didn't he just have a bit part in Heroes as a bus driver?

Not sure about that one, but everyone knows he had that part in "The Simpsons." Now that was some funny stuff. :happytv: If he is anything like he portrayed himself in that episode, no wonder people think he might be a little nuts!

Don't forget "Erotica Jones the Stripella". Now that will be some dark ride or motion simluator. :thumbsup2

Motion Stimulator as it were.

A Pamela Anderson Dark Ride may be just what the world's been waiting for, but what technology for "The bounce?" And how do they simulate Hep C on an Animatronic?

Yup! And oddly enough, even though I'm A) a girl, and B) not a comic book fan, I totally recognized him...don't know how, but I recognized him.

I think bringing in any new creative minds is, of course, a good thing. I believe I've read some things, though, giving the impression Lee can be a bit overprotective and cantankerous (See, Mom, the English degree's good for something!). Don't know how that's going to work out in the end...

Certainly an interesting development.

:rotfl2: :lmao:

i like Stan the Mans Marvel creations as much as the next guy. Problem is, what has he done in the last 30 years? He is definitely not the guy Disney should be hitching up with
