Stateroom Layout Question

Hi!

I am trying to figure out the layout for stateroom 6116 on the Magic. We sailed on the Wonder last fall and in our stateroom then, we walked in and the bed and sofa were on the left and the closet, steamer trunk and desk were on the right. I went to the Dreams Unlimited website for stateroom layouts and can't follow the pattern. Is the small cut-out in the layout for the steamer trunk? When we walk into 6116, will the bed be on the left or the right?

I'm almost positive it's for the steamer trunk, because I know for a fact that in 6616 when you walk in the door the bed is on the left. 6116 appears to be the opposite so the bed should be on the right.

Don't know the OP's reason for asking, but I'd swear that when I sleep facing forward instead of aft, it's simpler to find my way around the ship.
I know, I know - it sounds nutsy, but that's the way it seems. If the bed faces the stern, I'm confused when outside the cabin. I think it has something to do with orienting assuming that the bed faces forwards - regardless of the reality.

I also heard you get less sea sick if you are facing one way rather than the other but I can't remember which way it is that makes you feel less sick.

MATTER? It doesn't, really ... except when you have a very excited child who was just wondering what it would look like, that's all. We've cruised once before and my young daughter asked if the room on the Magic would look the same as when we were on the Wonder ... and I told her I would try to find out for her ... who am I to take away any of her Magic?

I would think facing forwards (since the bed and sofa face the same direction) would be less likely to cause this, particularly if you're able to see enough to recognize in which direction you're sailing). I don't do well riding backwards in trains, et cetera.

Wonder if others have noticed this?

Not only does the bed direction help. I agree.

I believe there are anchors on the carpet.

The top of the anchor always points foward.

Anyone confirm this???

We've cruised once before and my young daughter asked if the room on the Magic would look the same as when we were on the Wonder ... and I told her I would try to find out for her ... who am I to take away any of her Magic?

Nothing wrong with that! I was an odd one that wanted to know exactly what the picture was before we cruised, i.e. map, song, etc. & now that we've had the same room a couple of times, I don't want any other simply because to me it would feel strange to get used to a whole new room. I like that the picture is "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes", I like that the bed is on the left, and that the room is right near the aft elevators & stairs so I can hop right up to the drink station to grab a coffee. Not that it would ruin my cruise if I DID have to have another room, but it would just feel different. Different things are important to different people. That's what makes the world go round!

Doesn't the red anchor point forward and the blue one aft?

Also if you come out of the aft or forward elevators and turn left you will find rooms that have *5** or *6** and right you find *0** or *1**. This however is the opposite way around on the midship elevators.

That's probably right. One of the crew told us about this one. Also if you have an inside room where the bed is sidewards you're more likely to feel ill so you should lie across the bed!

Kat - I don't know, but we're in Cabin 6116 when we sail on the Magic six weeks from today.

The Deck Plan shows the cut-out thing on the left side... my understanding is that the cut-out thing indicates a cabin with a drop-down bunk, and because it appears on the left side, that would be the side the couch is on (that also converts to a bed), and generally the head of the bed is against the same wall that the couch is on. So the bed will be to the left when you come in -- closet to the right, bathrooms to the left, bed and couch to the left as you come in, dresser and t.v. and steamer trunk to the right.

If you don't get a "for sure" answer, I'll try to remember to report back after we sail

lol cool well while we are on the subject of state rooms, can any one tell me if there relly is a big reson to pay all the extra money for a navigater or window room. From a standered room.

Actually there is no need for a cut-out for the drop down bunk because it comes down from the ceiling. There is a little niche where the steam trunk is & I'm pretty sure that is what that cut-out is for. I've stayed in 6616 twice now & if you look at the deck plan the cut-out is on the right & I know for an absolute fact that the bed is on the left. The steamer trunk is always at the foot of the bed so the bed & couch will be on the right when you walk in the door of 6116. Also you can't actually tell by looking at the deck plan which rooms sleep 3 or 4 so you can't tell which rooms have a pull down bunk. I know I'm rambling but does that make sense?

6116 -- look at the hallway, see the little alcove that has half 6116 and 6118 -- that is the door to the stateroom. The other part against the hallway is the first half bath. So, the bed and couch will be on your RIGHT as you walk in. So you will be facing aft when you are sitting on the couch.

As far as orientation on the ship -- the carpeting is NOT reliable (while many times the red anchor faces aft, it is not always). Easiest way for me to remember is that lower numbers are forward -- so if the numbers are going up you are going aft. Also odd numbers are inside; even numbers outside.

Finally, the second digit (the "hundreds") -- a "0" or "1" is port side; "5" or "6" is starboard side.

Most of the time, I really didn't worry about orienting myself -- you can't get that lost, and if I walked a few extra steps, it meant I could have another dessert ...

That's funny...I slept the best in my inside stateroom or on the couch of the verandah stateroom. But we had very calm seas both trips, so maybe the mild motion of the ship just served to rock me to sleep.

This is funny...when we went on the Magic in '05 we were in 5144 & our bed & couch were on the right - so I guess we were sleeping "backwards" & either way, whoever's on the couch is going sideways?! Anyway, we never noticed a thing - nor did I think about it. However, when on land, I prefer to sleep with the head of my bed facing the east....something about the rotation of the earth & what your body is used to. But at sea - just figured it didn't matter!

We just stayed in Cabin 6116 on the Magic. When you enter, the bathrooms are to the right and the closet is to the left. The bed and couch are to the right, steamer trunk and desk area are to the left.

We loved this cabin so much that we have it booked again for Dec. 2008 and also on the Wonder for April 2008.
