Best/Most Direct route to Florida from Toronto...

What is the best route to take to Florida. We are driving down mid July and want to know what everyones route is......
1. Quickest
2. Best
3. Scenic

We are doing the mapquest way. Going to I-79 the route mapquest.ca says its about 20hrs from Toronto we are also going in July

I have found the I-79/I-77 route the quickest route (it's also very scenic). Lot's of places to stop for sleeping or eating.

We've done all 3 routes:

1. Mapquest route - I79, 77, 26, 95
2. I75 through Detroit - more hotels, restaurants
3. Last month went home via I95 and through Washington DC then through Buffalo. Did a quick sightseeing from the car in Washington DC - amazing city!

#1 is the shortest - 20-22 hours. #2 and #3 - 23-24 hours.

We usually take 2 days to go down to Disney and 3 days to come back home - prolong the vacation - stop at hotels overnight with pools etc.

There is always something exciting to see no matter which way you go!

When we were planning on driving (switched to flying due to a great deal) my brother had planned out a route using I- 79 which seemed to be the quickest route for us!

I-79 straight south from Erie PA is the fastest and prettiest from Toronto. You don't really have any other realistic choices.

US Route 19 (absolutely obey all posted speed limits on Route 19!)

The above route is quickest and most scenic. As for best...well that is subjective. From the north end of Route 19 to Wythville, VA you are in the heart of the mountains. Very beautiful. You will also go through two large mountain tunnels around Bluefields, VA. If driving at night through the mountains be very aware of animals at the side of the road. Keep your eyes open! Also, early morning in the mountains can mean plenty of fog until it burns off. Fog isn't usually so bad in the summer months though. Took my wife this route 2 summers ago. She'd only driven I75. She loved this route because it was scenic and cut about 3 hours off the drive. There aren't as many hotel/gas/food exits on this route but that should only be of concern in the winter. If you are travelling on the weekends I would suggest calling ahead for hotels. Many hotels through the mountainous areas can book up on weekends especially if a college football mini-camp has opened in the area. Learned this the hardway! Have a great trip!

100% agree with this route. We stop around Beckley, VA and Pooler, GA (Savannah). THis leaves you about 4 1/2 hours to WDW from there. You arrive refreshed and ready to go!

I applaud people who can drive all night to get somewhere. It would take me 2/7 just to recover.

that is the route we are taking. we have to be at Port Canaveral no later than 2pm on Sunday. we are leaving Friday night at 10pm. should be fun....

We find it more scenic to cross the border at the Rainbow Bridge, and I think the travel time difference is about 6 minutes. Echo the sentiment about not speeding through Summersville.

This summer is going to be our last time driving for a while, though, pretty though it is. Since we're camping, we can't fly, but next time, I think we'll be doing the cheap US flight thing.

Heh... this is the Quickest, Best, and most Scenic route.

If you get a good deal on SW, it's likely the Cheapest, too.

the drive is half the fun......at least for us. we drive straight through. when something catches our eye or sparks our interest, we turn off the interstate and check it out.
