I'm thinking we should cancel DDP

We're staying DVC, and haven't paid for it yet, so I hope I can cancel it when we arrive. I was really excited to try the DP, but it's just me and my 14yo DD, and she is a pretty light, mostly vegetarian-ish eater. We're staying 2 nights but were going to be able to stretch the meals out to a 3rd day in the park so that I would just use the TS credits myself and she would order a salad and fries,(we'd each use a TS at Crystal Palace) but now I'm reading that there's a (recent?) requirement that each guest use a TS credit per meal, so that won't work for us.There's just no way we could eat all that food. I thought the TS credits were pooled to use however you wanted to, and I'm reading that it's changed, or that it's always been that way but not enforced.Has anyone heard anything about this very recently?

When staying DVC, you need to cancel DDP before arrival through Member services.....

I'm not sure about the enforcement of credit use, but it's looking as though they may soon start cracking down.

I won't try to persuade or dissuade you from buying the DDP, but AFAIK there aren't any TS places where if you and your daughter both dined you would both HAVE to use a TS credit. You could use a credit and pay OOP for whatever she orders, or vice versa, or you both could use credits, or neither of you could use credits. Some minor exceptions I can think of are:

1. Let's say you use a TS credit and pay OOP for whatever your daughter orders. You would not be able to get as part of your meal anything that is listed as being "for 2."

2. Let's say you use a TS credit, your daughter orders nothing, and you ask for your app+entree+dessert to be split between 2 plates. That's where you *might* run into resistance from the restaurant and maybe they'd say if that's what you want to do that's fine but they'll charge 2 TS credits.

However, whatever the rumors are about "cracking down," I don't think there have been any credible reports that you wouldn't be able to do what you described in your original post.

I do not know what the cracking down is or everyone needing to use a credit besides at Buffet, but My DH and I shared our food using only 1 TS 3 times in April. We were never questioned or looked at strange. We never asked them to split the plate, but sometimes they did.

Can I share meals with other guests on the Dining Plan staying in on the same hotel reservation as me?
There is no clear answer to this. Consistently, guests seem to be allowed to share the meals ordered on the Dining Plan amongst the guests at their table, with the exception of fixed price meals, such as buffets or other all-you-can-eat options. However, this question was been asked directly to Disney via email, by a number of guests, and consistently, they have answered this question by saying specifically that, "sharing is not permitted." At this time, it is not clear as to whether Guest Communications is putting out a valid or invalid policy, since our sources in Disney Dining say unofficially that there is no "no sharing" policy, and it appears that if there is such a policy, most or perhaps all restaurants are waiving that policy for most or perhaps all of their guests. Despite several attempt to get clarification about that statement, no clarification appears to be forthcoming from Guest Communications, and nothing official has been released by Disney Dining to resolve the confusion.

Therefore, sharing between 2 people using 1 TS is great if you can do it but I wouldn't plan my vacation around it.

I've read that it's very difficult and time consuming to cancel the plan when you arrive as it can not be handled by the front desk. I would decide before you arrive.

You MUST cancel BEFORE you arrive! It can be a real pain if you try to do it while checking in.

I don't see any problem with you using your TS credit and your dd ordering something light for herself. Unless you're at a buffet, just tell your server that you're on the plan and she's not.

Even at a buffet, not all people in the party have to use DDP credits nor do all people have to pay OOP. You just have to do one or the other for each person.

Thanks, everyone.I really appreciate it. I think now that we'll stay with it! We're not sharing, just using 1 TS per meal instead of 2 and paying OOP for DD. I just read on the WDW web site "enjoy the flexibility of enjoying your meals in any order or in any amount...".Yay, now I'm excited about it again.
