We're looking to get a portable DVD player for the car, one that has the 2 seperate screens that attach to the back of the headrests, for vacation this summer. I know Target currently has the Audiovox, 7" screens, on sale for like $129. I'm taking DH there on Sat. to look at it with him. Obviously not looking to spend a fortune, so does anyone have any other places to look, with good prices? TIA!

The only problem that I see with the one at Target is that the DVD loads into the screen part, so if you are driving it would be hard to put a movie in. Other than that, great price. We bought a set from Best Buy last year and it already broke and we paid about $250 for it so I wouldn't pay a lot.

This is exactly why I bought my 2nd one from Best Buy and paid for the extended 4 year warranty. The 1st "cheap" one we got from Walmart broke just after a year. Went to Best Buy and got one, it stopped working after 4 months, but since I had the warranty, I took it in, they told me to just go grab a new one off the shelf. They do get a lot of abuse and usually don't last very long. Normally I never take the extended warranty, but in this case, I feel it's well worth it.

I got my dual screen Panasonic from Tigerdirect or directtiger.com for $100 back in Jan. and it hardly works anymore. The next one I purchase I'm definately getting warranty. It was great while it worked and it even came up with decent reviews.

$129 is a great price for the ones that have dual screens.

We have had our set for about 3 years (bought at WalMart for >$200).

I think our next portable DVD purchase will NOT be the dual screen type, but rather we'll just get 2 seperate DVD players. (How sad is that when our kids can hardly agree to watch the same movie and we pander to them?)

FYI: HGregg advertised a 7 inch player for $49.

I bought the dual screen from Target this week. I haven't played it as it's a Christmas gift for my grandson.

Good price for a dual screen.

At Walmart 2 years ago I got a personal Dvd player for Dd as she only had a vhs in her room. It has a larger screen, a remote control and jacks to hook it up to her TV, and the car jack. I bought the padded carry case that holds all the bits and can be hooked over the front seat, this has been a God Send as it protects against bangs and keeps everything together in one place!! Dd just loves it! She watched POTC on it 102 times!!

We got a dual screen one from Tiger Direct for $99 after a $40 rebate a couple of months ago. They may still have it. It works GREAT!
It has a built in TV Guardian that "bleeps" out the "bad" words and phrases. I feel much safer having my children watch some movies on it.
I believe they sell the exact same one at Best Buy also.
here is the link...I hope it works for you

Amazon also has it

We have twins also! We bought the dual screen unit from Walmart 2 years ago, and like it, BUT learn from our mistake, and do your research.

The unit had a car jack, but no A/C jack (had to order separately). No remote control, so I always had to stop the car to start the movie. We have never used the second screen. The 7" screen is a bit small, but I position it between the 2 front seats, and the kids watch the same screen. Note - I have a Rav4, so they aren't too far away from the front seats.

If I had it to do over again, I would buy a single player with a 9" or 10" screen, with car and home adapter, and a remote. They will eventually fight over which movie to watch (right now they take turns - so it's a princess movie, then Pirates or TMNT, etc.) and will want their own DVDs.

Good luck!

We got ours at WalMart (don't know the brand off-hand) this Christmas--car jack, AC (wall) jack, 2 screens, and video game plug&play "thingy"--we only use it on "long trips"--1 hour or more--and it is doing great!!! $179 total maybe??? It will drive from Cincinnati to Orlando with us next month (17+hours) . . . that's the real test, I suppose??? Good luck! I always read reviews to pick out new stuff . . .

Thanks for all your responses... we actually decided to hold off. I agreed with DH that we didn't "need" to buy this thing right now. We're only taking 1 trip right now, and it's only about 3 hours for the drive, plus they're only 3 1/2 (well, almost 4). So I know that in all honesty, they didn't "need" it. So, I think we'll wait for a few years and then if we really want to it, we can do it. But I'm gonna try to hold off so that we don't just put the movie on and tune them out. This is really our first road trip with them.

Oh, and DH promised me that he won't tune them out, like he does so well every other time we're in the car!!
