Where to find cheap memory cards?

I am looking for a 1GB SD memory card for my digital camera to use during next month's trip. I don't care about brands. What kind of prices should I be expecting for a generic brand? What stores should I check? Target didn't have any fabulous deals, and Wal-Mart was out of the cheaper brand last time I checked. Thank you for any help!

I just got a 2Gig SD at Sams for $31 after tax. I think the brand name was Toshiba.

If you have a Cord Camera near you, they have had quite a few Buy One Get One Free 1gb and 2gb memory cards lately

I know you mentioned the generic brand, but for a small amt more you can get the ultra II (highspeed) which will allow you to take pics at a faster rate. It's also nice to transfer them to the computer faster too.

I *think* I saw the 2GB Ultra 2 listed as $30 in the sunday paper. I'll see if I still have it around.

Not always will a faster card yield faster shooting rate in the camera. Some times the limiting factor is the CAMERA and not the card, so if a slow card still writes/reads faster than a digicam can recycle there would be no noticeable difference in shooting rate.

If you have a FAST DSLR that out writes a 40X generic card and you shoot mostly in BURSTS, then yes a faster card would be of great benefit.

And yes transferring photos to PC maybe faster with a faster card, unless you are using a USB 1.0 interface.

I bought the same thing this past Sunday. And yep, Toshiba. GREAT so far. My camera is 8mp and the card holds about 850 pictures when taken at the highest resolution....I can't imagine how many it holds at lower resolutions!

I always look at FatWallet when I need something "technical". The are dozens of people who can't wait to be the first one to post about a special somewhere and how to use various coupons to your advantage. The search feature rocks!

Once there type in "Secure Digital" or "SD" and you'll find the best price.

I was at Walmart earlier tonight and they have two 1GB cards for 21 dollars. I just got a 4 GB card off of Eaby for 40 dollars including shipping wow, thats a good deal.

I keep seeing SD cards advertised for ridiculously low prices at places like CompUSA, Staples, Circuit City and the like. My camera's a Sony so I don't use SD, and my ds's camera can't take anything over 512mb SD, so I haven't specifically been pricing the 1gb and more SD cards, but I've found 512 cards for $7-$15 and even free after rebates. I think the 1gbs seem to be advertised around $20-$30ish for the most part.

Watch for specials online. slickdeals.net and dealsofamerica.com are good places to watch for SD card specials. I posted a deal on the photography boards here a couple of weeks ago that was ridiculously cheap, 4 Kingston 1GB cards for around $15 after $10 google checkout and rebate (I think it was a buy.com).

I only buy SanDisk and PNY, my last 1GB PNY card I bought online cost me $5 (I think I bought it from buy.com and had $10 off with google checkout, no rebate). Kingston is another brand I see recommended often.

Be careful buying SD cards from ebay, I've read several posts on other boards by people who have had problems with cards bought from ebay. Don't remember the specifics though, sorry.

My one other tip...buy more than one card, memory is cheap these days and if you have a problem with your one and only memory card while you're on vacation you don't want to be searching for a memory card especially if you're at a theme park, that's missed picture opportunities. I usually bring several 1 and 2GB cards with me on vacation, some standard, some ultra (for taking video with my camera).

I was in Staples yesterday and bought 2 -1g SD cards. They were on sale for $14.98 a piece. If you take in empty printer cartridges they will give you a $3 credit for each one. I took in 4 so, I got $12 off my order.

Staples is advertising "Edge" brand cards 512mb for $5 each after rebate. Anyone know if "Edge" brand is any good?
