I will be going to Disney the beginning of September for the 1st time. It will be 2 Adults and 1 Child. We have the DDP. I have already made my ADR. I was wondering if anyone has paid for their child OOP and used the dining on the adults??? I was thinking about paying OOP for him at Sci-Fi, Mama Melrose, and Coral Reef. Then I can save 3 of TS and use the last day for breakfast at Chef Mickeys??? I read this works, but am scared to try. Has anyone done this??? Any suggestions???

No you can't do this.

This was taken from the FAQ sticky at the top of the page:

Can I pay for my child's meal in cash, and use their TS credit for another adult meal?
Sorry, child meal entitlements can not be used for adult meals.

My understanding is that TS are Kid and Adult ie you can not "save" some kids TS credits and have an Adult "use" them for an Adult meal. I could be wrong but I doubt it.

You could use a CS "kid" credit and buy a kids meal for an adult at lunch if you wanted to if that might work for you.

Don't you have free dining already? If so, why not splurge and do CM anyhow? I would do it at the start of my trip but that's just me.
I really think that Character dining is the way to use your Dining plan to its fullest if your Kid is of that kinda age where they want to see and get autographs and photos.

It really won't cost that much for just the three of you. You could even use one of the kids TS credits for CM as you would get a better bang for you buck that way and pay out of pocket for one of the kid meals at your other dining options.

Just my opinon, do more Character dining if your kid would want that sort of thing.

The OP MIGHT think that Chef Mickey's is 2 credits... which I did for awhile (until I really really read alot on the dis that is ;) ) CM is only 1 TS. There are only a few that are 2TS. I could be wrong... but I thought that way for awhile.

character meals are 1 TS credit except for CRT which is handled more like a dinner show, which are 2. dinner shows and signature restaurants are 2 TS credits.

as of 2007, adult and child TS credits are completely separate and accounted for separately.

I read this works, but am scared to try. Has anyone done this??? Any suggestions???
It does NOT work. This exact action is now prohibited by programming in the cash registers. My suggestion, since you asked, is to use one table service credit each for each meal requiring that action, and two table service credits each for any/every 2TS location at which you choose to dine.

Also, there's a VERY well-maintained FAQ thread on the Disney Dining Plan subforum (message board) right here on the DIS

The computer will know how many kids TS and Adult TS you have so if you do that when its time to pay you would only have 3 kids Ts so you would have to pay 2 adult ts to pay.

I was wondering how long it would take Disney to do that?

There goes the threads about whether is is the ethical thing to do. Darn it I'll miss that argument!;)

Prior to 2007, all CS, TS, and snack credits were pooled. There was no distinguished adult credits vs. child credits. So, you could essentially pay OOP at meals for children and use those credits elsewhere. Although, it was frowned upon. This is no longer the case. The credits are no longer pooled. The adult and child credits are now separate and your receipt will show how many in each category you have remaining after each meal.

Go to Chef Mickey's anyway and pay OOP for all 3. Breakfast is cheaper than dinner. -OR- Skip one of the other meals, and definitely go to Chef Mickey's. It is worth it.

P.S. If your Mama Melrose ADR is with the Fantasmic Package, I believe each member of your party must pay accordingly. Definitely use your credits there it is a prix fixed price like character meals.

One other option that you can do to stretch TS credits is to do a little sharing. DH and I often used one DDP adult credit for the two of us and ordered an extra entree. This way we shared an appy and dessert, and each had our own main meal. This is MORE than enough food at most places. Then you can have an extra credit for an extra meal. This would work for kids credits too (although in most cases my kids didn't even need a second entree - they are such light eaters they could easily share a meal). That way you can spread your credits out a bit and don't have to pay a full meal for all of you OOP.
