We will probably be staying at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa on our next WDW trip. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the rooms (not staying in conceirge), parking lot inquires etc. If anyone has any important info, or any reasons why I should not stay there, those would be appreciated.

Thanks,

No reasons at all. Enjoy your stay. The rooms are beautifully decorated, two queen sized beds, (unless you requested a king). Coffee pot, mini-fridge, snacks (for a fee), ceiling fans, rooms either have a garden view (which is very pleasant) or a lagoon view of the Seven Seas Lagoon, or now, specifically a Magic Kingdom view. Gasparilla's is a food court, Narcoosie's is a surf 'n' turf restaurant facing the lagoon (hexagon shaped building) Citrico's is a bit upscale dining, ice cream shoppe by the pool. There is valet parking. the downside here is that regular parking is a bit of a walk.

If your staying at the GF, the first time will be WOW! Late night swims in the main pool are great, slow down enjoy an afternoon on the beach or take out a boat, enjoy the live music in the lobby during the evening.

We enjoy the theme, grounds, pools, monorail, and location! :thumbsup2

We valet park, however, the regular parking is among the furthest from the hotel at WDW.

Go and have a great time!

The parking situation is one of the main reasons I don't stay at the GF very often. I don't like to let my luggage out of my sight, so if it's a solo trip, that means taking the luggage to the room myself. It's a loooooong haul from self parking to the resort if you're doing your own luggage. It's long enough if you have someone with you to stay with the luggage. The first time I stayed there, they had some self parking right in front of the resort, which was nice. Too bad they can't go back to that, for all the money you spend there.

The GF is setup with outer lodges. There is the main building, which houses registration, guest services, the monorail, shops and restaurants. There are 4 outer lodges which have the standard rooms. It's not very spread out though, I'd say the longest walk is from the boat dock to the monorail and that was about 7 minutes at a leisurely pace. Room views include garden, marina, lagoon and theme park. There are a few garden rooms that do overlook another building, but primarily, all the rooms are very nice. The GF will be undergoing a rehab over the next few months, so you may want to keep an eye out for any updated pictures. Standard rooms typically come with 2 queen beds and a daybed. All standard rooms have either a balcony or patio. Rooms on the top floors of the buildings are commonly referred to as dormer rooms. These are slightly smaller, but have a cathederal ceiling due to the slope of the roof. The balconies are different in these rooms as well. They are enclosed, with a solid railing and a bit smaller than the average balcony.

Some people like to request specific buildings to put them in a preferred area of the resort. Boca Chica and Big Pine Key are the closest to the pools, beach and main building. Sago Cay has some wonderful marina and monorail views. There's a little pathway beside the building that makes it very convenient to the bus stop. It's also closest to Gasparilla Grill (24 hour counter service/game room). Conch Key is closest to the resort boat dock and has some of the best garden views (IMO).

You have two ways to get to the MK from the GF. My advice, is to take the monorail there, but to take the resort boat back. The GF is the first stop on the return trip (shared with the Poly) and it's a beautiful way to see the resorts.

There are cabana rentals by the pool, if you are planning a day off from the parks. They can be reserved at 90 days out and come with some padded lounge chairs, fridge stocked with sodas, juice & water, tv/dvd, table and chairs.

The self parking lot is across the street from the resort. When you arrive, you definitely want to drive up under the Porte Cochere and drop off your luggage with bell services. Even if you're alone, they'll gladly take it and look after it while you park your car. If you are going to use your car frequently, you may want to consider valet. I believe it's up to $9 per day, but well worth it.

Tammi- is there a fee for reserving the cabanas and who do I call to do so???

Yes. I believe it's in the ballpark of $60 for a half day rental (morning or afternoon) and $110 for the full day. I would call the 407-WDW-PLAY number for information on how to book it. I know it's a 90 day window.

Thank you all for your responses. I have 1 more question, is there a regular fridge that you can store water etc in? Or is it just the if you open it you pay money for it?

Thanks In Advance!

Thanks for all the great info. OK, one more question - how do you get from the GF to Epcot? Is there bus or only the monorail? And if thiere is only the monorail then how long does it take -it seems to me it would take a very long time. We always have a car but this year I talked my sister into coming with us. Her husband can't come and she does not want to rent a car.
Thanks in advance
And by the way, how is the bus system at the GF?

PavelB-Take the resort monorail to the TTC, stops before the TTC are Magic Kingdom and Contemporary. Get off the monorail at TTC, follow arrows down the the bottom platform, than look for a monorail sign that shows that it is going to Epcot. If you're at the bottom looking up, it should be the farthest to the right. But when you get off at the TTC it's the monorail to the left, not the MK one.

There is also a bus to Epcot, and it is typically shared with one of the other MK resorts (I've seen it shared with the Poly or the WL).

The bus system in general is okay - the one thing I haven't liked about it is that usually they group at least two of the MK resorts together for the bus ride, so there's the chance you'll have to stop at another resort before going to the park or getting back to the GF. I generally rent a car when at WDW because I like to come/go on my own schedule.

I don't know, we always seem to have tough luck with the monorail system and end up getting delayed. I try to use the bus service whenever possible. A little tip we utilized was instead of using the resort bus going to Epcot, we simply went over to the MK and got on the YC/BC bus. That brings you within a 5 minute walk to the International gateway. We usually find that entrance to be much less crowded ;) .
