What do you love about the Contemporary?

I'm just starting to plan a 3-night Disney trip for February 2008. I'm considering staying at the Contemporary this time - in the garden wing since I can't afford the tower.

I'd like to know what people like best about staying at the Contemporary.

My other options are WL (never stayed there before) or POR (I LOVE this resort - especially Piano Man Bob!).

DH has always hinted that he'd like to stay at CR. So, I priced it out and it would only cost $250 more than staying at POR. What makes CR a great resort? Will I be disappointed with the garden wing?

Contemporary location is great....

Monorail running through is convenient...

For me....not my favorite by far....

WL is awesome.....not on monorail....but theming more than
makes up for it....IMO....
I haven't stayed at POR...but I love POFQ....

WL....is my favorite so far....so much I bought DVC.

The garden wing at CR is great. Very quiet, yet close to everything. The location of CR just can't be beat. Many dining options and you can walk to MK. Give it a try, I'm sure you'll love it.:thumbsup2

In my opinion the Contemporary is the best resort at WDW.

The location is perfect

The monorail stops in the lobby

great views of MK or Bay Lake

rooms were just renovated

Modern theming

great restaurants

and the list just goes on..............
I think the best thing about the CR is the monorail and the location and I love the theming

the castle view from the balcony, the location, the convenience of the monorail, the proximity to the MK (being able to walk there)

I think the theming at WL is much better. Personally, CR seems bland and boring to me as far as theming goes. However, CR has one of the best views at WDW, so you have to weigh it... good theme vs. great view, monorail.

~Simon :)

PS: If you have kids going with you, and especially if they are younger, the monorail is a huge item in the pros and cons list. Of course it would be in the pros side.

We love CR but out FAVORITE thing as you asked is the 5 minute walk in the morning to MK or the short monerail ride to the Poly for breakfast.

The monorail is the thing we love the most.
Then there's the quick walk to the MK.
The views of the MK are also pretty awesome.
The beautiful beach and pool area.
Sammy Duvall's Watersports Centre is a big plus.

I'm the opposite. WL transportation is a joke. So close to the MK, but takes way too long to get there. I'm not amused by a slow boat ride. The direct MK bus was great, but I understand they stopped that now. Give me a monorail ride or a short walk any day. Also, the rooms at the WL are too small for a "deluxe" resort, IMO. Themeing is not enough to make up the drawbacks for us. If they connected the monorail to the WL, that would definitely help.

The direct bus from WL to MK was stopped briefly last year while the bus stop at MK was being refurbed, but has been up since at least November. :)

As for the Contemporary - although we haven't stayed there, we did visit many times. What I like about it is its location, the monorail, the shape of the tower, and the subtle theming. Not to mention the great restaurants!

The Magic Kingdom view, best one out of the Resorts on the Monorail line.
Walk to the Magic Kingdom.
Watching Wishes and the Electrical Water Parade.
California Grill, Chef Mickey's and the Concourse Steakhouse.
Having the Monorail when wanting to visit the Polynesian and Grand Floridian.
Great Cast Members all over the place.

Location, location, location!

Big rooms with nice, new decor

Patio on the ground level of the garden wing (plus cheaper price)

Thank you everyone for your replies! It sounds like I would really enjoy staying there - the newly renovated rooms, the monorail, close proximity to MK. BUT...DH just suggested that we cut our first vacation stop short so that we can spend 5 nights at Disney! :cool1: So, the only way that's going to be affordable is at a moderate. POR here we come!

The Wilderness lodge has an amazing lobby, and the grounds are lovely as well. But the Contemporary has much larger and nicer rooms IMHO.

You will have a lovely time at POR. We have stayed here several times and always enjoyed the trip. However, you can't beat a stay at the CR in a tower room. The view is fantastic. The rooms are large and the decor is great. My favorite thing...that short walk back to my resort from the MK at night when everyone is in huge lines for busses, boats or monorails.
