Hey guys...a few quick questions..

1) When you book a room only reservation with Disney...do they take a deposit from your credit card or do they handle it like most hotels (you just pay when at the resort itself?)

2) How late can you cancel without suffering the consequences (fees)?

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Unlike most other hotels, Disney does require a 1-night deposit paid in advance for room-only reservations.

You pay the balance at check-in.

You can cancel the reservation up to 6 days before arrival and get your deposit back.

For room-only reservations, if you use a credit card, they will charge a deposit equal to one night (plus tax). If your arrival date is more than 21 days away, you have the option of mailing your deposit via Check/MO, but it must be received no later than 14 days after the date you made the reservation. The balance is due at check-in.

My family and I always make room only reservations and my Dad pays the 1st night deposit right away over the phone, so we don't have to worry about doing it later.

I'm pretty sure you need to cancel 5 days (not 6) prior to arrival if you want a deposit refund.

From my current Walt Disney World Reservations email confirming my room only reservation ...

In order to receive a full deposit refund, notification of cancellation must be received at least 6 days prior to your arrival date.

Hope this clears up any confusion :)

Knox,
I just my families confirmations for the Contemporary and Polynesian and it says you have to cancel 5 days before, so your off by 1 day.

I've had reservations with a 5 day and a 6 day cancellation.
What you have to check for now is the 45 day cancellation if you book online.
It has been popping up lately as well. I would call and speak to a CM to be sure.

Actually I just quoted my confirmation exactly. So.. perhaps they've modified their rules since I reserved? Or since you reserved since I think you reserved before I did...

For the reservation I quoted.. I reserved on or about the second week of March I believe.

EDIT:

I went back and checked the reservation I made on January 12th for my February trip.. and it says the following..

CANCELLATION POLICY: In order to receive a refund of your deposit, including credit card deposit transactions, notification of cancellation must be received 5 days prior to your arrival date. To cancel a reservation, call (407)-W-DISNEY(934-7639). Additionally, if you are holding any other reservations, they will not be cancelled unless you advise us. The cancellation and refund policy are subject to change.

I wonder why the more recent reservation says 6 days and the older one says 5 days.. Hmmm...

Well our reservation for this August was made last December and our reservation for this December was made this past February. In the end their cancellation policy does not bother my family and I because we do not plan to cancel either of our upcoming reservations.

I checked -- the newest reservation I booked on March 21st.

Weird.

I don't plan on cancelling either. Come forest fire or high water, I'm going.

Disney is way smarter than most hotels. They charge you a full night's room and tax up front. And they require that all room and tax charges be paid before you check in.
2) How late can you cancel without suffering the consequences (fees)?

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!
I think you have to cancel more than 5 days ahead...but am not sure. They do tell you the rule when you book the room. :)

Just adding my experience--
My ressie says the same as CanadianGuy's. I made the res on March 19 for August 5-12-POP.

I better not have to cancel for anything!!!!

I made my reservations online, but had to adjust something. I called Disney just to clarify the cancellation policy and they told me 6 days.

I have a room only ressie for next month and my confirmation says 6 days.
