Disney Quest - is it closed? Closing?

I thought someone here might know it's fate.

On the park stragegies board, someone has stated it is now permenantly closed. Others have stated it has been rumored to close for a long time.

What's the real scoop. This impacts those of us planning our fall trips (and whether we want the plus options on our passes).

Thanks!

Not closed. Rumors are always around that it might close, but so far, the rumors have been false. Anything can happen in the future, but I'll believe it when Disney announces it- not before.

It is not closed. There have been no announcements of it closing. In the end, all good things do come to an end. So it could be a year, 5 years, 10 years, 20 years - you never know!

making the assumption that Disney DOES announce it, or they could just close it and wait to decide what to do with it next.

I wouldn't doubt the constant rumors about turning it into an ESPN Zone however.

IF they do take out Disney Quest, I think they should give the rides a few updates and put them in Epcot, would be a good place for them.

Thanks! I would certainly hope they would announce it. It does make the "water plus" option less useful if one of the attractions no longer exists.

And Disney Quest might close too

That was my point. Sort of like, we are all going to die someday. Sometime, DQ will close. As of this point, there has been no announcement as such (but the rumors have persisted for a year or so now).

I am sure Walt Disney World will close too one of these days! Maybe 100, 200, 300, 1000 years from now - but maybe we should start those rumors now. :)

In fairness, the rumor that had it closing did have a fairly specific date attached. Late this year or early next year as I recall.

So if we get to next spring and no closing announcement has been made, then we can write it off as a stab in the dark.

The reasons supporting the closure do make sense. Certainly the DisneyQuest franchise did not go the way the company envisioned, and its got to be expensive to develop new games/attractions for it when there's only one location instead of the many they had planned on having.

But we'll know soon enough I guess.

Actually, a friend of mine who throws me info every now and then said that there was some truth to the rumor, but this person doesn't know if it will definitely happen.

You just never know. It's like with the Haunted Mansion Holiday at WDW..back in 2003, it was all but set in stone to happen that year or 2004. But it didn't. The DisneyQuest franchise unfortunately never took off - which is too bad, I really love the one here in Orlando. It's always busy when I go now, so they must be making money. I'd not be surprised if it stayed open, I'd not be surprised if they eventually turned it into an ESPN Zone. But at this point, it's still open with nothing announced. Knocking off DQ from the Disney passes would mean only 2 water parks and a still-floundering Pleasure Island for Plus options.

There was never any concrete proof to this rumor. Ever.

It's circulated for several years now, starting when the ESPN Zone's first started opening. Now make sure you understand the difference, there is the ESPN Club at the Boardwalk. Bar & Resturaunt only. Then there are the ESPN Zone which have arcades, TV studios, and radio studios along side the ESPN Club resturaunt & bar inside. A lot of people drew similarities between the ESPN Zones and the Disney Quest type atmosphere - that basically it's the same type thing, only aimed more towards adults. Then the rumor started going around...

Last I knew ( a year ago ) ESPN still did not even wish to pursue the option of taking over Disney Quest even if it were availible. ( thats the ESPN side of things). Then Disney Quest just did a bunch of changes within the past two years. Updating a bunch of the machines inside, changing the structure of certain aspects of Disney Quest ( no more pay-to-play to win ticket type arcade games, ect ). Then there is also the cheesecake factory contract to take into consideration. I was told that Disney had no desire to get rid of Disney Quest. ( However, that doesnt mean that if someone with the means and the money came in..... ) Translation: This is a good rumor that has a strong basis on the outside, but generally not much more when you know the facts.

On Episode 245 of the WDW Today podcast (at about 10 minutes into the podcast) Mike Scopa said DisneyQuest will likely close “anytime after October 1.″ There was some more detail in there, something about CMs having been given warning some time back.

This caught my attention because so far I've found the WDW Today crew pretty reliable, not prone to jumping on baseless rumors.

Maybe the attractions would be better served on the cruiseline

While I have not heard anything new lately, I probably would if something came up.

The last time a "reputable source" said DisneyQuest was closing in X months (cough)jimhill(cough) and that the cast members there were "warned" - I was actually working there. :rotfl2:

I'm no longer in Orlando, but still have friends down there who usually keep me in the loop.:rolleyes1

That's quite a relief actually . . . as much as I think DQ probably should close, it's one of DS10's favorite things at WDW and he'll be heartbroken if and when it does eventually shut its doors.

And maybe this means that when we go to WDW in August I can safely skip DQ, reassuring him that we'll go next time.

Well, they did close the one in Chicago after only about 2 years.

There is a big difference between a Disney attraction a thousand or two thousand miles from Disney World, and one that is popular on property (and part of the LOS type tickets, I'm sure they are doing just fine financially).

That is too bad they never made the Chicago one work.
