Question on Charging to Room Key

This is our first on-site trip, so I have a question or two about charging to the room keys.

1. We are a party of 8 (my family of 4, and 4 in-laws). We are staying in a 2br at BCV (renting DVC points). Is it possible to set up different credit cards on different room keys. In other words, my family of 4 on one card, and my in-laws on another? (Even though we are staying in the same room.). Or is it just one credit card per room?

2. My understanding is that if you have a credit card set up on your room key, you can charge basically any purchases in the parks (food or souvenirs) to that key - is that correct?

3. If you are on the DDP, does it automatically know to charge a snack as a DDP snack, instead of adding it to your credit card charges (up until the point that your food credits run out)? Or do you have to say it at the time of purchase?

Thanks as always for your help. You guys are great!

1. Good question - I would think so, call Disney reservations (or better yet, the hotel - they might know better) to find out.

2. Yes - you can charge any purchase in teh World back to your room using your key.

3. It all depends on how the cashier enters it into the system. So it would probably behoove you to let them know this is your DDP snack (if applicable).

We found, in doing all the reading here before we went to WDW, you have to make sure that you check the receipts and make sure that they charge your meals to your dining plan rather than to your credit card. I had read that some people had problems with them charging the credit card rather than the dining plan. Also, if you have children in your party, ask that the credit card access not be put on their cards. Some had stories of children using their cards in the arcade.

We did not have charging access on our cards and we used travellers checks, cash and credit cards for things we wanted to buy or for drinks at dinner.

Sorry, only one room charge account per reservation. So, unfortunately, the answer to that question is "No."

Each room key will be numbered, in your case 1 through 8. You can get printouts of your room charge activity (you can get one every few hours or just at the end of your trip), and each separate charge will include the number of the card used to do the charging. Therefore, you'll be able to figure out who spent what so you can figure it out amongst yourselves.

1. I also understand that there is only one credit card per room. Will you want your kids to be able to charge ? If so I suggest that you put your credit card on your family's 4 keys and do not put charging privileges on the in-laws keys.

3. DH had read on these boards of numerous times that meals were charged as meals rather than credited as a meal credit, so when we are on the dining plan we do not link a credit card to our room key. The process of paying for things is not really any diferent plus you have the safeguards that go along with use of your credit card (like limited liability if lost).

Or is it just one credit card per room?Ths actually depends on whether you have a 2 bedroom dedicated or a 2 bedroom lockoff (which is a one bedroom connected to a studio). If you have the dedicated room, it's one card, if it's the lockoff, since it's two rooms connected together, you MIGHT get then to place two cards down at check-in. If you only can do one card, it's rather easy to see who charges are who's, each card has a suffix so they can be grouped that way. You could always figure it out and go to the front desk on your last night and charge the balace of the other party to their card.

2. My understanding is that if you have a credit card set up on your room key, you can charge basically any purchases in the parks (food or souvenirs) to that key - is that correct?Yes, with some exceptions. Some of the carts DO NOT accept room card, but that is more the exception, not the norm.

The dining plan is noted on your card and usually the CM's will ask you if you want to use the dining plan, if they don't make sure you tell them.

When we traveled with my sister, she wanted to put $200 toward the charges on her credit card, so we went to the front desk to have them take that amount from her on our folio.

They assured me they had then switched it back to my credit card to complete the charges, but, a few weeks later my sister's credit card statement had the full balance!

So next time I will wait until the checkout day, have them charge my card for all but the $200, and then let my sister finish it off.

I was able to reach the billing unit and have them reverse the extra charge from my sister and charge my card as I had planned.

I'm a DVC member is this is not correct. It is one cc per reservation and your 2 b/r unit is considered one, lock-off or not.

Your best bet is to have charging on your card and your IL's can pay with cash or cc during the trip.

Before ordering food tell them you are using the DDP and check your receipt, you should be fine.

1. One credit card per room. $1500.00 limit.
2. You can charge all purchases. You can also choose who has charging privliges.
3. Say it at time of purchase and ask the Concierge mid trip for a DDP account summary.
