Date Night dinner help please!

Hi all,

We're heading to the world at the end of the month. I have all my ADR's made for our 5 night stay except for DH & my "date night" where I DO have reservations for the kids in Simba's Club. (We're staying at AKL.)

I am not sure if we want romantic "foodie" food, or just a fun adult night out. So, here are some thoughts...

If we do "foodie" food, what's your favorite? Citrico's? Narcoosee's? California Grill? Jiko? We are at AK that day for our park, and we do not have Hoppers, so although there are probably 10 restaurants I'd love at Epcot, we can't go there. So, it has to be a resort or DTD.

If we do "fun adult night" would you do Raglan Road or House of Blues? Something else?

I made most of our ADRs before having flights, and just called today to get my last family dinner for our arrival night (now that I know what time we arrive!) and had a hard time getting something. This "date" ADR will be for a Wed. night, so I'm hoping it will be better (our arrival night is over Memorial Day weekend.) Still, now that I had a hard time getting something for 5/27, I'm scared and feeling that I need to book. Is that right, or will we be OK with just two of us, on a school weeknight, especially if we are just hitting DTD? I understand that I probably need ADRs for the gourmet type choices.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

You need ADR's for everything!
The resturaunt really depends your tastes. What do you like to eat? What type of place do you like to eat at? Buffet? Sit down service? Boma could be fun if you like Buffet, there is both "regular" and "adventurous" food there.

Call 1-800-828-0228 number now!!! I just got Yachtsmen Steakhouse at Yacht Club for May 28 and I had MANY times to choose from. This restaurant is the ultimate in romantic and superior food!!! I am over the MOON that I have this ADR....can you say "chautaubriand"?

We have a family dinner at Boma the following evening, since we're staying at the AKL (and also because I hear that it's that good!)

We really enjoy nice food and have no problems with trying something new, but I don't know whether we want that "upscale" experience, or if we'll be worn out and frazzled and just want a good place to have some beer and laugh. I guess I'm looking for guides on either way, and I'll go from there!

I am not totally into seafood, though I'm getting more into it living on the East Coast, (guess that's from growing up landlocked in the midwest and not ever having "fresh") and it does seem to me that a lot of the "upscale" places are heavy on it. I'd still go to them if they're terrific, though, because there's always something I'll try.

So, DH just said that he thinks he'd prefer a fun, beer, laugh night to the "power" date while at Disney. This is fine with me - we do get out fairly regularly (God bless the babysitter around the corner!) at home, and do tend to go upscale on those. So, now I need suggestions more for fun, adultish, get a good beer, talk and maybe hear music or something. And, yes, I know that it's hard to talk while listening to music. So, just concentrate on the fun portion.

Raglan Road is a lot of fun and the food was really good. We also liked House of Blues - excellent food. I think you have to pay extra for live music / concerts at HoB while there is usually live music every night at Raglan Road in the main dining room.

If you want romantic I'm not sure California Grill is the place to be unless you have an early reservation. The food is terrific but the noise level can be very high so it detracts from the ambience in my opinion. But you can't beat the view!

You could really splurge and have dinner at Victoria and Albert's - now that's romantic!

Yeah, I've been really examining those two. Do you prefer one food over the other? I think DH has been to HoB in Chicago (we both grew up in IL and all family is still there) but I've not. Raglan Road sounds fun, but seems to get more mixed reviews. Thanks!

I'm a pretty picky eater, but for a casual beer night I think I'd give the nod to Raglan Road. Our experience there was fine - the food was very good as was the service and the entertainment.

The menu at House of Blues is more Cajun inspired - it's good but there are definitely some spicy items.

One thing that we liked at Raglan Road is that they offer beer flights - 4 small beer samplers for... I can't remember if it was $8 or $12, but it was a nice way to sample some different beers without committing to an entire pint of something you'd never had before.

We have plans to go back to Raglan Road later this month - hopefully it will be just as good this time around as it was on our first try. We'll be at RR on May 25th - maybe we'll see you there.

I followed your link to your pre-trip and got excited that we'd be in the World at the same time. Thanks for the advice! OT, but I know I've heard of O'Fallon - where is it? I grew up in Central IL and then DH lived in Festus MO for a year while we were dating. My folks always preferred St. Louis to Chicago for weekend trips, etc., so I do know a little about MO.

We are unrepentant Raglan Road fans here. In three visits, not even anything close to a disappointment. I'm telling anyone who'll listen that Ger's bread and butter pudding is the best dessert in all of WDW. Just a great place.

For a date, I'm tilting toward either Aritst Point or California Grill. CG's got the view (but my enthusiasm is tempered, just a bit, by the noise level.) AP has got that great Pacific Northwest ambience. Both places have really fine food.

CG has my overall vote.

OMG - listen to this person. That dessert alone is worth stopping at Raglan Road for. I can't wait to order it again.

We used to go into St. Charles itself - I had a huge thing for a shop there that sold furniture for my dollhouse. Hmmm. Weird memory. Festus was interesting...
