Any definitive word on the CR Villas?

As of right now they are still cleaning up the pieces where the North Garden Wing use to be, so my guess is it will be a while before WDW officially announces the DVC building to be built at the Contemporary.

It's to bad they are not really doing that, because a parking garage for guests paying to stay at the Contemporary would be great. Wheather they choose to walk to the Magic Kingdom or take the Monorail is up to them.

The Villas @ Contemporary Resort have long been rumored. With the destruction of the north garden wing, that rumor picked up a LOT of steam.

Then some documents were filed with the state of Florida (part of regulations having to do with building near water or something like that) that indicated a C-shaped building to be built on the area of the north garden wing. Some of these floor plans said it would be a DVC resort. (That doesn't mean it will be of course)

That's as much as we know that is absolute fact. Most of the rest of what I have to say here is speculation or my own personal theory.

Shortly after that.. industrious engineering types started circulating images of what this proposed addition to the CR might look like. There were rumors some of these images leaked out of the design house that was working on the plans. I've seen nothing that indicates this is true.

Disney has made no official announcement.. and probably won't for a while out of fear it might cannibalize their sales efforts for Saratoga Springs and the AKL villas. (this is my theory and not official)

I imagine that before the end of this year, some kind of announcement will be made indicating these will open around 2010 or 2011.

It IS possible that they are just building a bigger building of hotel rooms to replace the garden wing, but I SERIOUSLY doubt that's the case here.

I have a friend who has a GOOD source within the DVC organization. She says "No DVC there" Disney will probably build a "suite" hotel and more convention space.

Who knows, nothing is offical until Disney says something and even then.... (Some of you DVC members might want to think back to Eagle Pines. We had announcements, permits etc. Do you see a resort called Eagle Pines? )

Of course that 'area' within the resort property will NOW be part of the Four Seasons resort & timeshare property announced earlier this year. At least.. that's what has been announced. Should that get built, finally a timeshare development & resort will occupy the land for which it was long ago promised.. Just not a 'Disney' one.

But your point is well taken however -and the Eagle Pines story proves your point nicely- with Disney -- you just don't know till it's announced AND built.

That's a very good point because if they just wanted to then why not just renovate the North Garden Wing the same way they renovated the South Garden Wing?

When I asked several Cast Members at the Contemporary about this they all said DVC will be built there in a few years. So take from that what you want, however I am just the messenger repeating what they have told me.

I'll go on record as suggesting that I think eventually.. the South Garden wing will ALSO be demolished and eventually the structure there will be built to match the North Wing. It may or may not also be DVC.

That's my prediction. Now, to wait 11 years to see if I'm right.

Disney does not send out "super secret" emails to CR Cast Members saying "we are building DVC villas here" What happens is that CM one hears from someplace (even here?) and she/he tells CM two, who tells CM 3 etc..... It's a rumor mill in action.

(These same CMs have been expanding the monorial thru the black spot in the Swan for about 15 years!)

You could be right about the South Garden also being demolished, however I would not hold my breath about that one. My reasoning is that they just renovated all those rooms there, so why put all that money and hours of work on it if they would they would destroy it 10 years later. Besides with the North Garden Wing gone went a chunk of rooms, making it harder to get a reservation at the Contemporary. So does the Contemporary want to go threw that all over again?

OMG.. really? That'd be SO cool. Honestly - I've never heard this one. But it sure would be cool.

And yeah -- the average CM generally speaking doesn't know anymore.. and frequently knows less -- than the average DIS'er.

I think everyone on here has deep down inside -- a little CM dying to move to FL.

I've seen some posts here and on other disney discussion boards that indicate that the outline of the new building has been staked out and its in the shape of a crescent shaped building. If true, this would indicate that the leaked out drawings and blueprints of the rumored DVC wing may be accurate. I hope someone has some pics to post soon!
