HHN Concern

We are considering taking my DS (8) to USO for his Fall Break for 3-4 nights; anywhere from 10/13/07 to 10/20/07. We have no intention of doing HHN - I wouldn't sleep for a week. My concern is: 1) will both parks be included this year; 2) what time the park will close on the evening it is happening; and 3) is it cleaned sufficiently from all the mayhem the previous night/that morning before re-opened to general public.

I don't believe that it's been announced yet if it's going to be in both parks or not. The park(s) will be closing at 5PM if HHN is there.

Of course it's all cleaned up by the next day, although they do leave some of the largest "props" there because it would be too difficult to move them every night.

Thanks ChrisFL for the quick response. I was worried it was 5:00 p.m.; a little too early for my tastes. While I totally understand why they close that early, it doesn't seem like a very good time to visit USO for non-HHN attenders. Do you agree? That's why I thought if it was only 1 park this year, not too big a deal. Of course, off-season it closes at 6:00 usually, anyway. Maybe I'm putting too much thought into it . . . hold it, that's why I am a dis'er. We all put too much thought into everything.

the park that hhn will be in will close at 5 pm. the other park should close at 6 then. the times are already up on the universal website for october. check there in case there have been updates since i last looked at it 3 weeks ago.
looking at the website, it appears hhn will be at the studios again this year as they will close at 5pm.

the park has not been announced yet but it's rumored to be at the studio side.

a survey was sent out to some people, i received it, as others did also and returned it.
it asks if i would be willing to see a nightly hhn not just the weekend.
i think the suits are trying to see what the public wants and would pay for.
i am hoping it will be kept on friday, saturday, sunday only.

last year, in the middle of october, IOA was set up for business. for $10 a person could go there and ride the coasters from 4 to i think it was 7, or it might have been 6:30. universal opened up the coasters at ioa due to the crowds over at the studios. no way would anyone know now if the same will happen this year again. when i went the second weekend/columbus day period, ioa closed at 6 pm.

when you go in the morning to the parks, you would not know that hhn had happened the night before. it is completely clean. the main stages are covered during the daytime.
anything that is out in hide away areas, are covered up and pushed aside.
the area walk way between the park near mels drive in to the other side/shrek, was completely covered over. you could walk thru that way and not realize it was part of hhn the night before.

looking at your post you are going the 13 to 20.
that saturday and sunday would be hhn nights but the rest of the week wouldn't be.

btw, i am completely and totally addicted to hhn.

Re: park(s) closing at 5, it's not a huge deal because, (a) that time of the year the parks are only open until 6 or 7 normally, and (b) during the day, crowds are so light you can do a whole park in a couple of hours. So you're not missing out on much (as opposed to, say, Magic Kingdom, where you would lose 4 or 5 hours of park time and a fireworks show).

During the day you can barely tell HHN is there. You'll see a few props, a few boxes (fog machines), otherwise it's a normal day.
It's a great time to visit because crowds are light in the morning, temperatures are good, and the rainy season has ended. Meaning it's not hot and muggy like the summer.

It was awesome during the days the last week of October last year, I must say! We weren't on-site Mon-Thurs and it didn't matter as far as having short waits and such. We did stay on-site Fri-Sun though, that's when it got crazy as far as the crowds went!

Definitely no HHN for us!!! My DS (7) THINKS he would like it, but I know better. He'd be sleeping in our bed for a month. Thanks for all your responses. I booked RPH this morning for October 13, 14 and 15 for $191.20 AAA rate. I know that is considered a great rate, but not so long ago, I only paid $129. for RPH and $145. for PBH. I would say the good old days, but I am genuinely happy tourism has picked back up for Orlando and I will never go to USO without staying on-site - FOTL access - priceless. Would have preferred PBH, but no AAA rate available and we are only going to be there 3 days - then driving to Disney Hilton Head to recuperate.

The horror, the mayhem, the bad acting? That doesnt give an idea of what HHN is all about? Even the interview with the head of HHN doesnt give you an idea of what to expect?
And any chance I can get to plug it, I take it

That is the understatement of the year Chris. I think last year I saw a 4yr old girl walking with her parents, tears streaming and they were upset that she was crying.....COME ON!
My son wants to try either HHN or the less intense (some say) HOS at BG. I'm very leary, and I think I'm going to gauge whether he can sit through a mild horror film...let say Poltergeist....yeah not very mild...but not high on the gore content. See how long that mess his head up.

heck, they don't even sell children's tickets for hhn. adult tickets only...


it is a horrible for parents to take the kids to hhn.

Dh asked bean #1 (11 at the time) if she wanted to go when we were there in October.....she said maybe next time! I really did not want her to go yet....maybe in anohter year or two when she is 13-14....wow I can't believe I just said that (she will be 12 a week from today!)

in fact, you don't look old enough to be a father of more than a 3 year old...

My son will be 10 in October, and just days away from my 30th b-day you dont know how awesome that is. But, Bill and Ted would be okay for Mr. man as he is fairly mature and understands that if he used that kind of language and acted in that manner not only would it reflect poorly on his character and how people percieved him but I would kick his little booty all over the place.
However, as a parent, it is not the parks responsibility to make sure that your kids dont see something that is either inappropriate or will emotionally scar them and make them sleep in your bed for months. Its the parents. Go to the event yourself first, for years....then when you think your kid is ready, break them into it softly with things like local haunts, child haunts (houses done by kids) and less intense events such as how HOS is supposed to be.
Going on a discussion board and asking questions about daytime activities during a time of year when a park has a scary event is perfect, and very responsible. Good job.

Aw shucks, Thanks. Seriously, I hate it when I see a child terrorized (like forcing a child to sit on Santa's lap when they are hysterical). I agree with all the above comments. USO doesn't try to cater this event to children . . . and I honestly think if "adults" want to enjoy being scared to death they should be allowed to do so without small children around them being traumatized. Now I know some children could handle it. My child loves scary movies and has watched the recent Mummy movies, Terminator, etc., but Haunted Mansion about put him under. I asked him why - He said, "Mommy, I know that stuff on TV isn't real and they can't reach out and get me. But, the Haunted Mansion was alive!!!" That was my first, last and only time to "accidentally" torture my DS.

i totally agree with you.
yea, a youngster will know that when they watch a scary movie on tv, it isn't real and can't come out to get them. but when they are at hhn, it comes to life. the scareactors can sneak up behind them and scare them. or chase them .......

i don't like seeing kids at hhn.
i don't want to hear them scream out of fear, that really gets to me. it's an awful feeling hearing a terrorized child scream.

besides the horror to the theme at hhn, there is plenty of drinking and language used by guests that kids don't need to hear.
costumes of some of the female scareactors are another subject. the crowd enjoys the eye candy but what would an 8 year old think of it?


and, i don't want hhn watered down to become a mnsshp event......
