Boardwalk view question...

I'm planning to stay at the BWV in Nov for my third time. We are using more points to have a BW view for the first time.

My question is if I ask to be in a studio near the elevators does that mean I don't get a great BW view? From what I've been reading, if you're near the elevators &/or in a studio then your boardwalk view will really be of the green area near the boardwalk entrance with the boardwalk in the distance.

So should I ask to be near the elevators or should I ask to have a real good boardwalk view. I would really prefer both but from what I'm reading it's really only one or the other.

If you want to be near the elevators (there is only one elevator bank, kind of toward the middle of the resort), you won't be near the Boardwalk. Did you reserve a BW view?

A Boardwalk view is amazing, and considering all the walking done at WDW, it is not that much farther for such a magical view. We had a 1bdrm in room #5017 that was perfect w/a huge double balcony (off the bedroom and livingroom). The Unofficial Guide recommends odd-numbered rooms 3001-3033, 4001-4033 &5001-5033 for Boardwalk views. Happy planning.

I knew the elevators weren't that close to the BW, that's why I was confused. I haven't booked yet. I can on April 17. When I book I'm going to just request a great view & not say anything about the elevators. I will be traveling with my mother, she has a bad back, so we usually are sure to get a room close to the lobby, which is SO nice, but we'll just make sure to bring her wheelchair from home instead of renting at the parks. It will save money anyway.

I don't think you really have a chance for a BW view for Thanksgiving if you haven't booked it yet. I'd bet they are already booked for the holidays. The best you can get is maybe a preferred view overlooking the open courtyard between the Inn and the Villas.

DVC members can't use points at BWI. I'm not sure if you can request BW view at the Inn or if it is just the luck of the draw. It used to be that way at BWV, but they made it a separate reservation category on points. And only members using points can get a BWV BW view. You're not supposed to get it on a discounted member reservation nor on a CRO reservation.

DVC doesn't have to give you any room. It's all based on availability. If you wait too late to make a reservation and nothing is available, you are out of luck.

Wow, I sure hope your guide didn't give you that story. Home resort or not, if there is no availability you won't get a room.

I have never had a problem with getting a room, especially in Nov. We've booked a stay two months before going & had no problem. We didn't get our first choice but we were planning it at the last second. As for this trip, I can't book anything but SSR until the 17th & not at AKV, my other home resort, until May, so I'm waiting. I'm not going during a busy time, so I'm not worried. What I've been told by two different salesman & the booking girl is that they have to get you a room in your home resort, within reason. They reserve a certain amount of rooms for that exact purpose. We're not talking like my trip is a month away, it's seven months away. I don't foresee any problems. In fact, this is the furthest out I've ever planned a trip to WDW & that's because I had to for the cruise.

What I've been told by two different salesman & the booking girl is that they have to get you a room in your home resort, within reason. They reserve a certain amount of rooms for that exact purpose.

If they have no rooms available, you will not get a room. They do not "have to get you a room". It's all based upon availablilty, and no rooms are set aside for that purpose. The people who told you this were very misinformed.

There are now more members than ever before, so it will become more and more difficult to book at 7 months, IMHO.

I do hope you get a reservation.

Like I said before, I'm not worried. It's seven months away. I booked last year's Dec trip two months before going, I had no problems. When we were there they said it was "much busier than usual" and we still got a room. Yes, there are more members but there are also a lot more rooms. SSR has added two more buildings. The man I sat with to sign the contract in Jan, when I bought into AK said that it would take at least a year & a half to even sell out SSR. So their demand for rooms isn't that high, not to mention, when I'm going they will have even more rooms with AK & almost everyone will be trying to get one of those rooms. I'm not gonna have a problem.

BTW, as of yesterday I could book the exact room I wanted on the website.

I appreciate the concern, but I'm sure I'll be fine. Besides that, the only room I can book until the 17th is SSR, because AKV aren't available until May, & I DON'T want to stay there. So I'll just wait it out.

I can attest they don't "have" to give you a room. There have been times when I've called and there were no rooms anywhere. One trip we moved three times (OKW to Yacht Club back to OKW) in three days because nothing was available for the Sunday night.

As others have said, DVC inventory has nothing to do with CRO inventory.

No, I'm not confused.

I understand my DVC membership just fine, thank you. I have never had an issue with getting a room, so I think I understand it just fine. I don't know what is up with you. If you think you're "trying to help me" or not, I don't need your help. I have been a DVC member for many years & my parents have been even longer than me. I haven't needed your help yet & I don't think I remember asking for it either. I had a question about getting a BW view & suddenly this has turned into a "i know more about DVC than you" attack. Let me make it a little more clear so this topic could just die & we could get back on the topic this forum was meant for.

1. I understand how DVC works. Like I said, I obviously was misinformed by a DVC worker about them guaranteeing you a room.

2. I understand that DVC inventory & CRO inventory are two different things. All I was saying is that the week I'm going is not that busy & I'm sure I will get a room seven months out, however, it may not be my first choice but I will be able to get a room. It is only regular season the week I'm going so I don't think I'll have a problem, not to mention we almost always go that week & I never plan it out as far as 7 months ahead.

3. The point I was making about SSR not selling out for another year & a half was this: Yes, like you said they're are more DVC members now, but there are also more DVC rooms, so it balances itself out. Yes, it's harder now to get the room you want than it was years ago but it's still not that hard. When I planned my trip two months before going, to get my first choice room I would have had to either change the week going, change hotels during my stay or just stay at my second choice resort for the week. So I do understand what you're saying.

Let's get back on topic, which is the views at the BWI and BWV. I have a standard view room booked at BWI. What can I expect? Is there a possiblity of being upgraded at BWI? I know very little about this particular resort except that I loved the Boardwalk area when we stayed at the S/D.

Years ago I stayed at BWI with a standard view room, which I was told would be of the parking lot. When we arrived they upgraded us to a water view. We had a view of the quiet pool. The girl who gave us the upgrade said we got it because we checked-in as early as we did & the resort was not fully booked. I think it was around 9 or 10am & we went in Jan which used to be REALLY slow, it's gotten busier over the years but it's still pretty slow.

Getting an upgrade, IMO, is all about luck.
