Where are the Disneyland Foodies?

Ok a few last questions. Since you are all so helpful! :goodvibes

We LOVE to eat. For our June trip we want to try 2 upscale (on property) Disney restaurants, and then 2 or 3 counter or regular Disney restaurants. Other then that we know we are going to need to eat off property, or bring snacks.

So does anybody have any tips for the best, or their favorite on property restaurants?

Also, are there any affordable and nice ones off property?

Are there any specific to CA restaurants, fast food places, or cuisine we should try?

And finally is there a place to find coupons or money savers on meals in the area?

I know when we go to Orlando we like to go to stake and shake, sonic, cracker barrel... etc b/c we don't have them in NY. We love all food, so feel free to share your tips, and restaurant deals with us!

Thank you all in advance AGAIN! This site is the best! I hope i can be as helpful to new members on day as well!

Okay well here goes:

If I had to pick two nicer sit downs on property they would be Storytellers at the Grand Californian and either Steakhouse 55 or Hook's Pointe both at DLH.

For less expensive places, I love Carnation Cafe (Baked Potato soup and turkey sandwich on pretzel bread!) for lunch at DL, Whitewater Snacks in the Grand, French Market for lunch (French Dip) in DL, and Pizza Port (chicken Fusilli pasta or the salads) for lunch/dinner in DL.

Lots of people like Blue Bayou for sit down nice meal but it's not my style. I do really like the Cheese Monte Cristo at Cafe Orleans though!

For off property, Mimi's is good and I also really like Cheesecake Factory. There's Tony Roma's right across the street as well as IHOP, Denny's and Millie's but I don't really care for those. If I plan right, it doesn't cost me any more to eat in the parks than it does outside the parks. I know there is also an Outback Streakhouse and a Buca Di Beppo close by too! Not sure what your tastes are but you should be able to find something around there.

The only coupon I have seen recently is for the McDonalds across the street but it's only good till April 17th or so!

By the way, WELCOME to the DL boards if I didnt' tell you already!!

OH MY THEIR MENU LOOKS AMAZING!

Which one is near DL? Ohhhh my mouth is watering! (I dont know what Knotts is either) :guilty:

Sorry, Knott's Berry Farm Theme Park. Its' the closest one I know of, if you look at locations on Claim Jumper website, it will be in Buena Park about 8-9 miles from DL! It's a very easy drive, basically one street almost all the way!

ok... well now after looking at your profile, i see you are from Vegas!

Did I mention after Disneyland, we are going to Vegas for 4 days. Since you are on a roll do you have food tips for there? We are staying at the Wynn. And LOVE the Wynns buffet. We have tried all the big name hotels buffets, (Rio being our favorite) but have never gone to a regular restaurant. We are looking forward to that this time. Im going to start looking into them now...

Well my favorites on the strip are the mexican restaurant in New York New York Gonzales Y Gonzales, Cheesecake Factory is also in Ceasars Palace if you don't make it there at DL, I like Kokomos at Mirage, The Cafe or Olives at Bellagio, Mon Ami Gabi at Paris is great too!

I also love the Rio buffet and the one at Planet Hollywood Hotel (Aladdin) is really great too! We also like Craftsteak at the MGM. PF Chang's is also great and Lawry's Prime Rib right off the strip at Flamingo is awesome if you like Prime Rib. Hamada's for Japanese/Sushi cannot be beat either!!!

Alright, now it's midnight and I am hungry!!

good tips gf....i also would like to throw one in for Vegas...Le Village Buffet at the Paris hotel...go for breakfast...my god the food is amazing...usually a pretty long line to get in but well worth it:goodvibes

For upscale on-site restaurants, how about Napa Rose? I still want to eat there one of these days...we just aren't typically at DL in the evening since we usually drive up just for the day.

My favorite counter service places for something "a little different" are Bengal Barbecue (yummy skewers of chicken, beef, or veggies) and Pacific Wharf Cafe, where you can get soups and salads in those wonderful Boudin sourdough bread bowls. My husband likes the corn chowder, I like the salad nicoise. If you're in the mood for "comfort food", the Plaza restaurant has the best fried chicken I've ever had, and my husband says the pot roast is good, too. They have good desserts, also.

I also really like Cheesecake Factory.

OMG! We have a Cheesecake Factory here in Virginia Beach! It is SO good!

Just make sure if you go to have lots of time to look over the menu. It's really long and it's so hard to choose because EVERYTHING there is delicious. Even the salads! Yummm!!!

I think I know what I'm doing for dinner tomorrow night! LOL :rotfl:

I was going to to say, there's nothing more upscale than Napa Rose for Disney restaurants in Anaheim.

We just got back from Vegas last weekend...... We usually go to the Peppermil for breakfast when we are there. It's on the strip across from Circus Circus and has good food and a really cool lounge to hang out in while you are waiting for your table.... p.s. they have really good mimosa's

Our favorite lunch spot at DLR is Whitewater snacks in the GCH... Yummy food, good size portions and a nice outdoor patio...

Don't forget to go to In-N-Out to get a burger! They are all over southern CA. The closest one to DL is on Harbor and Orangethorpe. There is also one in Vegas. :)

I agree, the menu can seem daunting as they have SOOO many offerings. But my absolute favorite ever is the Chicken Madeira (not to be confused with chicken marsala!) The chicken Madeira is absolutely to-die-for!! I also love the fettucini alfredo and their cheese, spinach, and artichoke dip is THE BEST I have ever tasted and I get that almost anywhere we go!

Mmmmm, I love any dip with artichokes!

I have to say I like these two things the best.

LUAU SALAD
Fresh Slices of Grilled Chicken Breast Layered with Mixed Greens, Cucumbers, Green Onions, Red and Yellow Peppers, Green Beans, Mango and Crisp Wontons with Macadamia Nuts and Sesame Seeds.
Tossed in Our Vinaigrette

SANTA FE SALAD
Lime-Marinated Chicken, Fresh Corn, Black Beans, Cheese,
Tortilla Strips, Tomato and Mixed Lettuces with a Spicy
Peanut-Cilantro Vinaigrette

Then I get a slice of cheesecake, something different every time. I think tomorrow I'll try the Coconut Chocolate Cream! Yuuummmmmm!!!

We have never eaten on-property  so can't comment on that.

I agree with Andrea about Mimi's Cafe. We ate there several times and the food is wonderful. Also, as tinkerbelt pointed out, no trip to SoCal would be complete without a burger from In-n-Out Burger.

On our next trip, we plan on eating at Cafe Orleans and Carnation Cafe for sure. Also going to try the Dole whips/floats and everything we can get our hands on in the bakery.

Happy eating!

OP: you said you like Sonic (me too!) and there is one about 10-20 minutes from Disneyland on Lemon Street. It was easy to find, right off of the freeway and right across the street from a Disney outlet store. We have very few Sonics here in Ca so it is a must do for me when we visit.
