According to Disney's website, the HM will be down from 6/6 until 9/12.

There have been many reports that the attraction is LONG overdue for a rehab, but rumor is it will also get the bride and floating Leota effects that DL's version got, as well as a gift shop and photo op.

I was hoping for a Haunted Holiday version. But that is probably asking too much....

NOOOOOO!!!! We're arriving 6/8 for our last trip for a while (oldest DS graduates HS in 2008 and then all our money will go for college:scared1: ). Dang!

We arrive 6/8 too. HM is DH's favorite; DD16 has always been terrified of it, but was determined to actually keep her eyes OPEN this year. Guess this won't be the year! Oh well, reason to schedule another trip...

Oh boy! i hope they throw Pluto and goofy in as haunted guests! That would be SWEEEEEETTTTT! Or maybe they will add Eddie Murphy! Not an audioanamatronic, but the real thing!

But for real, I do hope they do a holiday version, i would like to see that. But i suppose such a long refurb is not for holiday makeovers, but more substantial improvements... like the addition of Eddie.

You mean we get to buy a ghost???:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

With the timing of this refurb, there must be something that needs serious attention. Why else would they shut the ride down for the entire summer season? My guess is that whatever they need to fabricate or have built won't be ready for a couple of months, and they feel they can't let the refurb wait until the fall.

This ride has been in need of a serious rehab for a few years. Many of the Doombuggies have speakers that don't work. The soundtrack is not always synced properly. The dueling portraits quite often don't work. Little Leota has been broken in 4 out of my last 5 trips.

There has been much discussion about the need for a HM rehab on Doombuggies.com since last year.

Yeah, no kidding, the the motor the drives the belt at loading has been screwed up for what? two years by the time of this rehab? They tried a quick replace and it immediatly broke. The whole thing is hosed and has been. It's on a slow setting because of the load belt which messes up the timing of the audio. And as others have said, the doombuggies are in a sad state. You people that are going to be there when it's down should consider yourselves lucky that you didn't have that piece of junk masqerading as a classic attraction foisted on you.

This is the second trip we have taken in the summer that a major attraction has been in refurbishment during the "busy" summer months. 2 or 3 years ago it was Small World.

IMO the maintenance of the rides is being overlooked untill there are so many things broke on a particlular attraction they have no other choice to bring it down for "refurbishment".

If proper maintenance was preformed on the attractions there would be no need to bring an attraction down for 3 months or more. I do realize things break. But I think that the "coroporation" in order to save a few bucks does not makes the proper repairs. Just a temporary fix. Now please don't get bent out of shape with me. I just think that the "Corporation" is trying to make the cheap fix so the "suits" in the front office can line their pockets a little more.

Walt must be spinning in his grave. (or cryogrenic freezer).

By the way I feel the same way about all Corporations...not just Disney.

In large part, summer rehabs are a way for Disney to balance out the maintenance costs. You can have a smaller staff year round with a constant work flow rather than a larger staff working only during the slow times.

The other issue is that Disney thinks the Magic Kingdom is far too large right now. In corporate logic, you get a "full day" when you see nine rides or shows. Since the Magic Kingdom offers a lot more than that, Disney is "wasting money" by keeping so many rides open. You're not supposed to care about closed rides becuase you have more than enough to do already.

I don't want "Corporate America" telling me what they think a full day should be. A full day is different for everybody. "Corporate America" does not speak for me!!

i agree it is ready for a rehab--- I have been to wdw about 15 times since I was 12 and the ride has NEVER changed....Just wish it wasn"t while we will be there in July!!!!!:::

They should start the rehab in the fall!!

It wouldn't be "good show" to have the Haunted Mansion down during the Halloween parties/season.

I am glad it will get a long overdue rehab- it has been in rough shape for quite a while.

I'll be able to see a before and after this year.I really like Haunted Mansion,I hope the updates are more than just matinence.

I'm excited to see HM getting so well deserved TLC. It's one of our favorites and a classic. Can't wait to see what they have in store for the ride when it reopens.

If you pardon the pun, the store likely won't happen until a second rehab that will likely begin in early 2008. This first go around is supposed to be mainly mechanical work to keep the place from falling down and the installation of a new sound system. It's likely some of the new effects from Disneyland will also be incorporated as well since they are some inexpensive.

I figured so and considering the rehab isn't very long I figured it would be during the next rehab before we would see a store. They would need to rework the exit area to make room for a store and even with three months time it might be pushing it. Would be nice, but I'd be happier with ride enhancements rather than a new merch location.
