I had to go back to the hospital Monday night. Again all my tests were normal. The only abnormal thing was that when they gave me morpine for my abdominal pain the pain got much, much worse! So now they think I have a spinkter of Oddi dysfunction????:confused3 I go to the GI clinic on Friday. I guess they will explain what this could mean. I just know that I am in pain and I can't eat. I've had 4 saltines in two days. I can't spend time with my kids because I am vomiting all the time. I feel like the worst parent on the planet. :(

My co-worker's wife had this. It occurred a couple of years after her gallbladder was removed.

I hope they are able to get you a diagnosis soon and relieve your pain and discomfort. It does sound like a distinct possibility based on your symptoms. Especially the morphine making your pain worse. Hang in there.

What are the symptoms of sphincter of Oddi dysfunction?
The symptoms of sphincter of Oddi dysfunction include recurrent attacks of upper right quadrant or epigastric abdominal pain. This pain is usually non-colicky and steady. The pain may be aggravated by meals, particularly fatty foods. Opiates may also worsen symptoms. Patients may present with a recurrence or persistence of pain after gallbladder removal.

This link has very through information based on sphincter of Oddi dysfunction.

Thanks for the info! I did have my gallbladder taken out a few years ago. The pain I had on Monday night started about 30 minutes after a high fat meal. So, it sounds like I may be getting close to a diagnosis. I'm going to check out that link now.:goodvibes

Sending prayers that they finally come up with something and can treat you.

Hugs TruBlu.. I do hope you get an answer soon.. no one deserves to live like this.. Please keep us in the loop...we are routing for you.

Thanks everyone! I am feeling a little better today. I had some soup for lunch and it hasn't caused too much pain. The more I read about SOD the more it sounds like what I have. We'll see what the GI doc thinks tomorrow.

Marsha - I've also started having some serious gum problems! I keep thinking about the article you posted recently... Do you remember if a link between pancreatitis was mentioned or was cancer the only link? Should I mention the gum problems to the GI doc?:confused3
